Authority of a page
-
What factors contribute towards the authority of a page ?
No. of links to a page ?
-
Thanks, slide 17 certainly seems to back this up.
I wonder how much extra weight a link from a different C-Block provides vs. from the same IP / C-Block and whether the extra effort / cost makes it worthwhile?
(again wrt a single link between two of your own sites)
-
Exactly
-
Thanks.
Does different C-Classes means sites having different C class IP address ?
Also, when you say "unique C-Block linking to a page" what does it imply ?
-
Correlations seems to say so. Check slide 17 of this Rand preso on Slideshare: http://www.slideshare.net/randfish/ranking-factors-data-2011-smx-elite-sydney

Just to clarify, does unique C-Block importance mean that if you operate two sites and you include one simple link from one to the other it would carry more weight if the sites are hosted from different C-Classes? Thanks.

Mmm... not a line answer question this one
Your answer point to the right direction: "links".
But it is not just the numbers of links to a page. If it was just that you could simply rely on the link you put in a forum signature and then "spam" the forum with usefulness posts.
I warmly suggest you to check the 2011 Search Engine Ranking Factors by SEOmoz, that offers you insights also about the authority of page issue.
To resume, what really count are the unique root domains linking to the page and, to be even more precise, the unique C-Block linking to a page. In fact, the more a page is linked by different sites the better.
But that is just one factor. In fact a page that owns backlinks from authoritative domains will have more authority than a page who receives backlinks from not authoritative domains. Beware that this doesn't not mean that if a page as just one link from one site, even though it is the New York Times, that that page will rank better than other that has 100s of unique domain names linking, even if they are less authoritative.
Finally, if you mean with authority of a page the PA metrics of SEOmoz, remember that it considers also many other factors, between them also on page ones. To understand better what is the Page Authority metric, check this page: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/page-authority

If you use the search tool on SEOmoz site, and put in Page Authority you will get a good answer to this. That said, it is SEOmoz's calculation of how well a page will rank based on the pages global link authority. Along with that, the higher the domain authority of the site, the greater chance that page authority will be higher.
So it is predictive of where a page might rank in relation to others of similar value.

Should we rename and update a page or create a new page entirely?
Hi Moz Peoples! We have a small site with a simple site navigation, with only a few links on the nav bar. We have been doing some work to create a new page, which will eventually replace one of the links on the nav bar. The question we are having is, is it better to rename the existing page and replace its content and then wait for the great indexer to do its thing, or perm delete the page and replace it with the new page and content? Or is this a case where it really makes no difference as long as the redirects are set up correctly?

How often is your domain authority updated?
I can't seem to figure out how often our domain authority is updated - it seems random, do you know typically when this happens? Thanks!

Page Analysis - Helping Product Pages Outrank Search Results Pages
Hi! We have a lot of our search results pages that have been indexed and outrank our product pages and in some instance the actual product pages barely show up at all. Here is an example query that includes our brand name: http://goo.gl/cgB6W So, we have loads of actual product pages, video pages, etc that should be showing up here, but are not and this is just one example. Unfortunately, there are a LOT of these Search Results pages out there and utlimately we would love to de-index them altogether, but it's going to have to be carefully done. So, was wondering if anyone would want to check out one of our product pages and give any feedback as to what we could change to possibly improve rank or to make them more search friendly or hopefully to help them rise above these indexed search results pages? Here is an example product page: http://goo.gl/2R4IT Thanks!! Craig

Hi, Quick question regarding author pages. I have the blog set as me for my author page. so the url is: mysite.com/blog/author/miles/ Now, seomoz has picked up that my author page is missing meta description. But, this cannot be editied through wordpress as there is no edit option available. I may really be missing something, but where can I alter the author page, I have a feeling it might be fed from G+ but no really sure what part of G+ is used as the description. Thanks Miles

Removing OLD pages
Dear all, I was removing tons of old pages from my directory (about 400 pages), I was setingup a 404 custom page, all is fine, so when I go to an existing page I get a 404 and redirected to my 404 page. The problem is Google Webmaster tools list all these pages as 404, and never clean my list (1 year til now), so I assume something is wrong. Question what is the best way or natural to remove old pages from one directory? Note: previously I tryed add on these pages the NOINDEX/NOFOLLOW meta tag and I got from google Soft-404. Thank you

My website is saying I have duplicate page content and page title. How do I fix it?
Hi, I created a website on webstarts.com. After I launched it then ran a scan through SEO it says I have duplicate page content and page title. The 2 pages it is reading are technically the same page. www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com and www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com/index . I am unsure how to get rid of on of these as it keeps saying this is an error in the SEO scan. Could someone please advise me of what to do from here. Thanks!

Limiting On Page Links
Right now, we have about 160 or so links on the home page. It's been recommended that we keep it to under 100, though that's not as big of a deal as it once was. Is it helpful to make a bunch of those links "nofollow" in order to preserve link juice? Is it going to make a difference, or be at all helpful? I assume it won't be harmful, especially as a bunch of them are to the same page but on different sections of the page. Would live your advice and thoughts! Thanks!
