Open Site Exporer Social Media Data Accuracy. Anyone notice this?

On my homepage http://www.shipoverseas.com, I have 142 FB Likes, 9 Tweets, 3 +1s. In OSE it shows, FB Likes 86, Tweets 4, and 3 +1s.
Does anyone know why there is a discrepancy? I am using AddThis.

Hi, one Q in regards to this - over what timeframe are the stats pulled in for? Is it in total or for that day/week?
-
PPPFFfffff! What? So my FB "Likes" = Regular Likes, Shares, & Comments. Okay, this is making more sense. Those numbers are a little closer.
On my home page, I have 145 "Likes" (FB defined "likes"). OSE shows 51 Shares + 81 Likes = 140. I know for sure I have than 5 comments though. But it's fine. I'm not counting comments. Besides, I have Facebook Comments as well as my Wall comments.
Hmmm, looks like someone fixed my FB re-authorization problem. hehe
THANKS JENN! Keep Rockin it!

Hi Francisco,
Ok first, you should send an email to help at seomoz.org about the reauthorization problem. That shouldn't be happening and the Help team can help you out with that.
As for how the social numbers are calculated, here is a response from the engineering team:
"For the social metrics in OSE, first - they're not part of our Linkscape index. We compile those metrics from different APIs. The Twitter metrics are coming from Tweetmeme and they are page specific - not domain specific. So it's not how many people have tweeted his domain - it's how many times someone has tweeted that exact URL.
Facebook is a bit more confusing. The metric in OSE breaks out FB Likes and FB shares - however, on Facebook, when you see the number of Likes, that is a metric that combines shares, likes, and comments. It is confusing when we use Likes, because in OSE we are strictly counting Likes (like someone_liked_ it) which is not the same definition of Like on actual Facebook."It sounds like we're looking into fixing the way FB numbers work though, but it's a lower priority.I hope this helps!Jen -
No problem! I have an email out and will get back to you soon. Thanks for asking the question!

That Social Tab gives me problems when I try to "Add the Facebook Page". I am reauthorizing it now for the 5th time. I just checked OSE and my FB Likes increased by one. So it's basically the same thing. Thanks Jenn for checking into this for me as well as for all Mozzers.

Hi Francisco!
I've noticed also on my personal site that the numbers aren't quite accurate. I'll ask the dev team and find out how those numbers are calculated. But you might want to try getting those numbers from the Social tab in campaigns now instead? I'll let you know when I hear back!
Thanks,
Jen

Social Media Tracking
We currently use Sharing from JetPack to offer people the ability to share our blogs on Twitter, Facebook, and so on. Unfortunately the Site Stats provided are not very thorough and not able to be tracked in Google Analytics. Does anyone have a suggestion on which program is best to use for social media tracking? We would prefer to use one program to gather and show all of the statistics.

Deleting Poor Performing Social Media Accounts for Businesses?
I'm the Internet Marketing Manager for an ad agency and in charge of not only our social media and SEO but advising and hooking up clients with successful campaigns. I've taken the liberty of signing us up for almost every major social media account. Some are very successful (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn, Vimeo is ok (we use it over YouTube), Vine is picking up) and others are very not doing well (Flickr, Foursquare, YouTube really is low, Google+ is very mediocre). I’ve been wondering if it would be more beneficial to just delete certain accounts. I think I need to keep Google+ (Google values it and we are not doing terribly on it) but all the others listed in the bad column I think are really cancerous to our SEO (and make us look bad b/c we are doing poorly on them) but I really don’t know. I used them kind of to see if they would work for us and to demonstrate that we knew what we were doing in these social networks, but I think they may be doing us more harm than good both from a PR standpoint and SEO. Doesn't it hurt your website for Google to see poor performing social media accounts, just as the opposite would be true (good sm accounts and mention/activity would give you klout & SEO...)? What do you think? I'm no novice but no master either. Love this forum. Thanks in advance.

Lost social share count after migrating blog
Hi, Yesterday I migrated our blog to a new domain. It seems it went smoothly and all 301 redirects were implemented and are working properly, however, the social share count was lost across all posts and has returned to zero. Is there any easy way I can recover our social share counts across the board? I am using the **1-click Retweet/Share/Like **plugin for Wordpress. Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thank you, from Russell in South Africa.

Is opening multiple Facebook pages a good strategy?
I currently operate a Facebook page with ~4,000 fans who are fairly active. In the nearby future I am planning on opening up websites in my most important target locations (mostly for legal reasons) We offer several worldwide products that are extremely popular and not all represented on Facebook. Given the above background info, my questions are: Is it worthwhile to open and build up Facebook channels per language Is it worthwhile to open and build up Facebook channels per "product" What are the SEO implications of each in addition to improving our social profile. thanks!

Images on Social Media - Can they be Optimized?
My company has been sharing images on its Facebook and twitter outlets which are getting a lot of shares. It seems to be the only thing really working for us. Is there a way to optimize this or use it to our advantage for our website? Or is this just something that will help me gain some edge rank in Facebook?

How does Social Media really Impact SEO?
It's become a common refrain that social media is critical to SEO. Taking this literally, I have been examining the impact of social media on specific pages and topical areas within my site. Specifically, I am looking at pages and content areas that we promote and link to via social media and I am seeing zero correlation to SEO success. Social media is not impacting my rankings at all. And we have a sizable social footprint. Has anyone else done this type of analysis and seen different results?

Does social media really work?
I just finished a 2 week test using Twitter. The person running the test was tweeting for 1 hour every day, but the tweets were broken up into several different times throughout the day. She engaged in conversations, retweeted, posted interested and catchy topics and linked to our blog. By the end of the test, we only saw a 7% increase in traffic to the blog. There was no noticeable increase in sales. According to an article I read by Business Insider, Applied Predictive Technologies ran a test to help companies like Starbucks measure the impact of social media. They concluded that social media accounted for a 2% increase in sales. That's not much for the time and money that goes into it. What's your experience with social media? When I first posted this, I neglected to say this Twitter account is one we have been activly using for about 2 years, and we have posted to it at least once or twice every day for the last couple of years. And, we are a well established company for the past 8 years, and we regularily submit press releases and have written 2 articles per day on our blog for several years.
