Question Concerning Pages With Too Many Links:
-
I have run SEO moz software for a clients site, Its showing that virtually every single page has too many links. For instance this url:
http://www.golfthere.com/AboutUs
Am I missing something? I do not see 157 links on this page.
-
Having too many links is the least of your worries on these pages. Looking at the view source there's a lot of code (508 lines of it) clogging up the bots path to any content, let alone the links. Your menu structure is over complex from a code point of view, the pages are rendered in tables, there's a lot of on page JavaScript that could be minified and/or accessed thru a separate file, I don't see an
tag here's the link to one of your stylesheets
Your example About Us page scores a very low 57/100 on Google's page speed tester - that alone could be a reason the pages aren't being indexed well.
Looks like programmers we're driving the bus when the site was built.
-
I agree; too many links alone can be overcome. (I know, I live it.) If rankings across the board aren't good then there's something else - maybe several things - going on.

Hi Todd,
I think the ultimate question is what's wrong with your site, no? I don't think it's this in terms of having too many links on a page. It's only one of the many factors in terms of getting you ranked. The way the links are set up internally can make a difference, but I would have to spend a bit of time checking out the site to see how they're set up to see if they're working.
What's your goal? I'm assuming it's to rank better. Frankly, the first thing I check always is what's your backlink profile looking like. I'm assuming you want to rank better for terms other than your brand name. Right now, it doesn't look like you will.
So, this warning about links is the least part of your problem. Also, your title tag for your home page is not as "SEO friendly" as it could be and if I spent more time looking, I bet you there are a number of other things you could tweak on the site. It's not the "too many links" on that page I would be worried about...

When you hover on the tabs at the top, all those menus that appear count as links. The locations g tab has about 20 alone; all those add up. Since that menu is on every page, that could explain it. How you see things isn't the same as how Google does; we tend to base it on what we see - Google bases it on what they can access (which sometimes you can't directly see, like with the tabs).
My site has the same problem; we resigned ourselves to it because, for us. it's better for the users.
-
In your drop down menu, there's a ton from just the Locations tab.
I'd have to look at the report to see why it's saying it's a problem . Sorry.
-
Is it counting each link from the drop down menus at the top of all pages as links? Is this something that would cause horrible rankings?

Use Internal Search pages as Landing Pages?
Hi all Just a general discussion question about Internal Search pages and using them for SEO. I've been looking to "noindexing / follow" them, but a lot of the Search pages are actually driving significant traffic & revenue. I've over 9,000 search pages indexed that I was going to remove, but after reading this article (https://www.oncrawl.com/technical-seo/seo-internal-search-results/) I was wondering if any of you guys have had success using these pages for SEO, like with using auto-generated content. Or any success stories about using the "noindexing / follow"" too. Thanks!

Landing page video scripts - duplicate content concerns
we are planning to create a series of short (<30 sec) videos for landing pages for our clients PPC campaigns. Since our clients all offer the same services (except in different geographical regions of the county) - we were planning to use the SAME script ( approx 85 words) with only the clients business name changed. Our question is : Would these videos be identified as 'duplicate content' - if we are only planning to use the videos on landing pages and only for PPC? -in other words are we in any danger of any kind of consequences from the engines for repeating script text across a series of landing pages featured only at PPC campaigns?

Different links to ultimately the same page on Magento
Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if some of you could help me out a bit here as I'm a bit consfused. If you please take a quick look at my site: https://tesorotiles.co.uk the way it's setup is that you can get to the same page via 3 or 4 different routes as below: https://tesorotiles.co.uk/type/wall-tiles/rho https://tesorotiles.co.uk/by-area/bathroom-tiles/rho https://tesorotiles.co.uk/collections/rho These 3 are the exact same page and we've done it this way to make sure there is no break in the breadcrumb. Is this ok SEO wise or anyone have any recommendation. Thanks in advance

GWT shows 38 external links from 8 domains to this PDF - But it shows no links and no authority in OSE
Hi All, I found one other discussion about the subject of PDFs and passing of PageRank here: http://moz.com/community/q/will-a-pdf-pass-pagerank But this thread didn't answer my question so am posting it here. This PDF: http://www.ccisolutions.com/jsp/pdf/YAM-EMX_SERIES.PDF is reported by GWT to have 38 links coming from 8 unique domains. I checked the domains and some of them are high-quality relevant sites. Here's the list: Domains and Number of Links

freedocument.net 1 However, when I plug the URL for this PDF into OSE, it reports no links and a Page Authority if only "1". This is not a new page. This is a really old page. In addition to that, when I check the PageRank of this URL, the PageRank is "nil" - not even "0" - I'm currently working on adding links back to our main site from within our PDFs, but I'm not sure how worthwhile this is if the PDFs aren't being allocated any authority from the pages already linking to them. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Thanks all!0 -

Too many links in header menu
I'm working on a few clients who are starting to get big header menus. Their site now easily exceeds the 100 links per page recommendation. Normally I would recommend them to cut down on the links, bit in this case these sites have menus that makes navigation easier. I honestly think these menus adds value for the users. The dilemma is that I think the menus provide value from an UX standpoint, but I'm not sure from the SEO standpoint. Any recommendations to this dilemma? Some examples: http://moodsofnorway.com/no/ http://www.gmax.no/ http://www.flust.no/

Onpage linking
On my homepage, I currently link to about 40 internal pages. I'm considering altering the internal linking structure to have 50-100 links on the 2nd level pages. If I was to do this, I'd only need 8 homepage links. Do you think the 8 pages linked from the homepage would go up in the SERPs as the pagerank would be less diluted? I've heard so many mixed views on this. Be interested to see what people here think. Thanks, Pete
