Rich Snippets
-
Hi Everyone,
Just a few questions on rich snippets please:
We have now integrated microdata (data-vocabulary.org) on all our product pages http://www.avogel.co.uk/herbal-remedies/arnica-gel-atrogel/ which I have tested on the rich snippets testing tool which Google provides and all is working fine.
However I have been told by our developer that it is using hidden markup, will this have an affect on the rich snippets being showing in the organic results?
Kind Regards
-
I think it is. Crawlers might understand data-vocabulary, but if they're not committed to using it when creating search results, you might miss out on things like Google's new product search info panels.
Google's actually still using a number of different microdata formats right now, but kind of as a means of a fallback method, so it could be phased out in the future (for example, we all know Open Graph is Facebook's gig) Schema.org is the only one which the big three search companies have all pledged to support in the future, so any new features that improve search results are likely to happen first to schema.org

Thanks for the quick reply.
So the fact that comments cannot be seen in the source code is not a factor?
I did read that Google & Bing are supporting schema.org, not exactly sure why our developers have opted to go for data-vocabulary.org, do you think this will be a huge disadvantage in our rich snippets being showin in results?
Kind Regards

From everything I see in your code the rich snippets are being used very effectively. This should only help your results and will not hurt them. If Google makes an announcement and suggests that websites and especially product site use rich snippets then you can expect that they are going to use them more and they will only help your organic results.
The only suggestion I may make is that you may have wanted to use the schema.org format. This is the format that Google recommended publicly.

Site wide decrease in featured snippets
Hi, As of April we have seen a huge drop in the number of featured snippets and I'm unsure why. No major changes have been made to the site. We did submit to to Google news at a similar times (failed unfortunately) I have plotted our featured snippets and competitors featured snippets form data from Semrush and most our competitors have seen a fall in number of featured snippets. There has also been a large fall for some categories specifically. But overall we have seen the largest drop out of everyone. (See attached Graph) Does anyone have any clues as to why Google would remove multiple featured snippets from one website in particular. Thanks. OwseH

Does this setup meet the ratings rich snippet guidelines?
Hey everyone, I am setting up a few product landing pages and hope to be able to see the star ratings via the search engine. I attached a screenshot of the SCHEMA code included on the page and results from the testing tool. On each landing page there are 3 reviews taken from the product page and the overall rating of the product. There are also 2 links directly to the product page. Google states that: Make sure the reviews and ratings you mark up are readily available to users from the marked-up page. It should be immediately obvious to users that the page has review or ratings content. Do you guys think the landing page set up I described above is sufficient to comply with google's guidelines? yafujZe.jpg

Parallax site with snippets of internal pages on the homepage
Hello, I am working on a parallax site that also has an internal landing page structure. The homepage includes snippets of the existing copy from some of the other internal pages. My question is what can I do to the homepage to prevent duplicate content in this situation? We aren't utilizing the entire landing page on the homepage just a few lines. Would it be possible to place a 'no-index, follow' tag on these sections? Thanks in Advance

Google snippet chosen why?
We have a page about buying property in the Megeve area of the Alps in France. We are No.2 on Google.co.uk for the term "megeve property for sale" and No.1 for "megeve property". http://www.prestigeproperty.co.uk/MegeveProperty/Properties.asp If you search for "megeve property for sale", Google serves our META description as the snippet: Ski chalets, homes and apartments for sale in this exclusive, prestigious Rhone Alpes village - 520000-16500000 EUR. However, we noticed that searching for just "megeve property" serves up a much better snippet taken from the text on the page: A crucial factor for potential property buyers is that there is a strong rental market in Megève and this remains high all year around with properties close to the ... Does anyone know why Google would serve this particular snippet instead of the META description. Is it the number of strong and descriptive words used, or some other reason?

Rich Snippets With Picture
I recently added rich snippets to my website to link my Google+ with my website so that whenever someone looks at my website on Google search it will show my picture. It has yet to show up on the search results and I understand this could take a couple weeks. My question is: will the authorship/picture of me show up on the Google search results no matter if it is the root domain or a blog/article post, or will it only show up on an article post that someone sees in the Google search results. I viewed my root domain in the google rich snippets testing tool and it shows my authorship picture but it is not showing up in the SERPS

Does anyone have any experience using GoodRelations Snippet Generator for E-Commerce versus markup from Schema.org?
I am trying to implement Structured Data markup on a large e-commerce site that has ancient code and is not on any standard e-commerce platform. It is a Webstore we self-host that was developed for us and heavily customized. What's worse is that I don't have access to the source code. I have to somehow instruct our IT Director how and where to place everything. So I'm going to need to be meticulously specific. As I began wading through our code and determining where to insert code as instructed by Schema.org I ran across this on one of their pages: "This class contains derivatives of properties from the GoodRelations Vocabulary for E-Commerce, created by Martin Hepp. GoodRelations is a data model for sharing e-commerce data on the Web that can be expressed in a variety of syntaxes, including RDFa and HTML5 Microdata. More information about GoodRelations can be found at http://purl.org/goodrelations/." I went to check it out and it appears that this could be a great resource as it has a snippet generator and several "cookbooks" for adding micro data to our site. Here's a link to their snippet generator: http://www.ebusiness-unibw.org/tools/grsnippetgen/ However, with a catalog of 5,000 SKUs, needless to say we aren't going to plug in our products into this generator one-by one. Has anyone here successfully used GoodRelations to help them implement micro data into a large E-commerce site that isn't a standard platform (not Magento, WP, Joomla or Volusion) ?? I would be very greatful to anyone who can share their experiences and or make suggestions on how we might best proceed. Thanks! Dana
