Does focussing deep linking too much on one page have a negative impact elsewhere?
-
Hi, I'm just starting a backlinking campaign on a new website and am focussing on one deep page for client - focussing a lot of good quality backlinks on that one page.
I'm aware that most of the other pages, including homepage, lack good backlinks.
Can I go ahead and focus powerful backlinks on that one 'deep' page without a problem, or may that approach result in negative impacts on other pages' SERPs.

You're welcome Luke, glad to have helped

Thanks Simon for the great answers, and thanks Casey for your interesting question too. Much appreciated

Hi Casey
Yes, that would likely be fine at face value (though still not ideal for reasons covered shortly) and in Luke's question it's about one deep page rather than another page at top-level. If the page is so important, then probably a good idea to move it higher up as shown in your example.
With this suggestion though, it's very much 'putting all the eggs in one basket'. It's usually a better strategy to create a really valuable website rather than relying on just 1 valuable webpage.
Using an analogy; a one-man football team wouldn't be that successful no matter how many fans he had, a strong team supporting that one-man would surely achieve more and please the crowd more-so.
Creating other useful pages to support the site overall and this page in-question, with link building to those pages, would provide a better user experience and offering than just having 1 useful page amongst lots of useless ones.
Though if the business strategy is fulfilled by just relying on one page and one page alone, then yes it would be the best option available to concentrate on just that one page.
So two possible options between us, depending on the business objectives.

Simon

Hi Simon,
What about when you have a average site no one really cares about, but on this average site they have a page with really awesome content and it looks like this:
- http://www.boringsite.com/ - 30 inbound links
- http://www.boringsite.com/really-awesome-content/ - 3000 inbound links
Would that not make sense? Will Google still see that as un natural, or will they know the reason for the link discrepancies?
Thanks,
Casey

Hi Luke
What you will be risking with this strategy is creating a Link Profile for the website that looks Unnatural for which a negative impact such as devaluing the links could potentially occur.
By all means work on getting some great links into this important page, but don't ignore the rest of the site in the process, ensure that other pages and areas of the site also receive some good links too.
"Everything in Moderation" (everything ethical & good practice that is) as the saying goes, is usually a safer bet when it comes to SEO. Vary the type of links that you actively try to gain and where those links are going to.
Regards
Simon

How much time wait to do Link Building to a new page?
We launched a new page 2 weeks ago, and we want to know how much time should we wait to do Link Building and how many links should we try to generate to not get penalized by Google. Thanks! EDIT: Thanks to all for you answer! Very helpful!

External links to my non-indexed pages
If an external site links to one of my non-indexed pages, will that still pass link juice and help with my domain authority? Thanks!

Reciprocal links now cancel out any benefit say Google. But what about if one of them is nofollow?
As a web agency we have some of our client sites linking back to us from their footer to show who built the site as is common practice in our industry. This seems to work fine for us generating both referral traffic and we think some help with rankings. Google recently said that reciprocal links do cancel each other out of any benefit which gives us a dilemma for when we want to link to a website as a case study on our own website. Normally we use nofollow on the link but is that enough? I'd rather have the inbound link benefit than provide a link to the website!

Reject a link from a not found page
Hello, I am writing because I have a question about link building. My page has got a link from this URL http://fundacionbanesto.com/ (PageRank 6) but I know that it no longer exists. Do you think it is negative for my site? Should I reject it? Thanks in advance.

Are Links/Resources pages considered spam?
I'm dabbling with link building in a non link-happy industry, traffic safety (IE Traffic cones, barricades, safety vests, etc...). We currently are doing #RCS in terms of giveaways for college students as well as discounts in a wider EDU Outreach campaign as well as legitimate guest posting. I have started to use Link Prospector, and got a list of links/resources pages that we can get info from. I found some great links through here, including ways to get links from higher-profile .gov domains, but was wondering if it is worth it to go after the high(er) quality links/resources pages. By higher quality, I usually set a floor of a DA 25-30 and have a limited amount of external links per page. These would be for branded keywords (IE the company name/domain) and not exact match anchor text. I'd really like to see how other SEOs feel about this. 1 Domain - 2 Links Pointing to 2 Different Pages
Hi Guys, I wonder if you can give me any pointers: We have an exact match domain name that is ranking #5 for our main keyword and is getting some good traffic through the site. We have just created a landing page for another keyword with fresh content that will be updated every week. The question is, I've been building links to my domain name and I'm just wondering if we built another link from 1 of the sites we already have a link on and point it to this new landing page would this help it rank better or not? Hope the above makes sense. Thanks, Scott

Should I unify my links?
Checking at opensiteexplorer.org I can see that: mydomain.com has has DA 26, linking root domains 1, total links 22 www.mydomain.com has DA 26, linking root domains 31, total links 89 The 22 links to the non-www domain come from the same site, which I would be able to convince to change to the www domain. Is it worth doing it? Will it add up to better DA? Thanks J PS: with only 32 root domains I think I have to do some serious link building...
