New Keywords stealing juice?
-
I already rank on the first page for all 13 of my main keyword terms. Is it possible for me to start ranking for additional key words on those page by adding additional content on the pages? How much impact will this have and will the new keywords still juice from my already good keywords?
Also if I am already ranking well for those key words...with really horrible URL's. Would it be possible to add my new key words into the URL's? Since the current URL's seem to have nothing to do with my current rankings maybe I can keep my current rankings but then also get a huge boost for my new keyword rankings?
Thank you,
Boodreaux the novice.
PS. I have already heard the great advice of keeping my old site map up for a while after I change the URL's in order to let google catch up and re-index the site.

Its a lot of work, but you can copy and paste or use other ways of reusing code.

That is a good idea, Alan.
So far I have not been using schema... but google does grab some of my tabled content for display in the SERPs.
I have not used schema because I honestly don't want to figure it out and procrastinate that job by writing content.
I wake up in the morning and look at my job list and say... "I should do schema today." .... then.... say... "I don't want to do that, I'll work on an article instead".
I really should do it... thanks for the push.

Egol have you thought about marking them up with schema.org
they have a schema for datatables also
i use html5 artcle tag, also the article schema, and relate the images to the article, by using the imageOject
representativeOfPage property

Yes.... we place a lightly colored box under each image and use that as a space to give a generous keyword-rich description. We also use that space to attribute the image to source or creator - sometimes with a link.
A typical article might have 2000 words, six images and several hundred words of image descriptions.
We also love to include data tables in our articles. These could be locations, numbers, names, etc... .whatever small data summaries that might add interest to the article.

No, you should change your internal links,
A 301 does not pass all the link juice, so you should avoid them.
With internal links you have the power to point them at a new url or remove them, but with external links you for the most part do not have the power to change the link, so them it may be necessary to use a 301.
Many people over use them, they use them willy nilly.
-
Thanks....EGOL, I have started to add some substantive text in the form of a "page envelope" that you had mentioned a few weeks ago and it seems to be really helping right now.
I can't wait to start adding images. (fast loading ones) When you say captions do you mean just captions under the images?
-
Okay...so 301's are for links....gotcha. My 12 pages do not have any external links on them except for internal links. Are 301's necessary for internal links?
-
if you have links, then you can use a 301 to redirect the links, if there is no links then yes make the changes now before you get links, and there is no need for the 301.
My point is 301's leak link juice, they also become hard to manage after a time, so use them sparingly.
-
Thanks for your response Alan! The new keyword is related strongly to the old keyword and has just as much traffic and same difficulty as my term.
My site has been up for only 4 months. Will I still have to use the 301? Why not just put the new page out there without a redirect? Maybe have both pages with duplicate content and remove the old one once the the spiders/crawlers pick it up?
Here is an example of my the end of my url after my domain name. It has no relevance or meaning whatsoever.

We have a lot of short articles on our site that were first posted several years ago. We are enhancing them with much more substantive text, more images and captions. All of this information is on the same topic - just greater detail.
As we add this new information we see an immediate increase in long tail traffic as search incorporates the new words that appear on the page and new images get into image search. We also usually see improved rankings.

You do run the risk of changing the meaning of the page if you add content relative to new keywords, I would include a new page. it depends on the keywords and the content of cause.
Adding keywords to the url would not be enouth by itself and changing the urls would mean you would have to do a 301 and a 301 leaks link juice.

Are keywords in the title tag becoming redundant?
I've noticed that lot's of the world's leading digital agencies are not using keywords in their titles. Eg AKQA, DigitasLBi, POKE, SYZYGY etc. Why is that? Are keywords no longer that important? This can't be accidental seeing as it's the case for so many leading agencies.

D.A. and Link Juice from certain websites
Hello, i'm a bit confused concerning some link buildings. What happens with backlinks from blogs coming from powerful domains such as abc.yahoo.com or abc**.over-blog.com or abc.blogspot.com?** Meaning, everyone that creates a blog over there will have a PA of 0/100 but a DA of 80 or 90/100.

Will Google consider DA on these cases? I'm confused because it can't be that simple that someone creates a website, and after some months they will have like 10 PA but still the 90/100 DA and their links can be a powerful backlink. Can you explain me how Google sees that? So, if I have a link coming from a blog on those domains will it be better than any other with same PA but lower DA?0 -
Home page ranks for most keywords with no SEO
Hi Guys, The keyword I am trying to rank is on seperate page with its own Optimization in place. However the HOME page of website starts ranking for that keywords . The keyword is mentioned on Home page Just once in content description, that's all. What should be my ideal strategy. Deleting the Sub Page, will that improve the SEO of my home page and improve the Rank for that keyword ? Also I can see my Own YELP pages rank better than the actual website for few terms . Any way around this ? A Part from building links to page ?

SEOMoz Keyword Ranking Accuracy
Getting some mixed message on this. Is the keyword ranking informational available in SEOMoz based on the data in Mozscape or based on live Google data? Reason I ask is that my ranking for "crown moulding" for www.worldofmoulding differs: Based on the today's scan my www.worldofmoulding.com ranks in position 40 in Google. Based on a manual check with cleared out cache no local setting ... the site is 4th spot Running a third party check using "Advanced Web Ranking" tool it comes up in 9th spot, but they count the local business SERPs in which case it matches my manual search. It seems that SEOMoz is not in line with actual ranking. Any suggestion for what can be used to accurately asses SERP placement for terms?

2 Year Old Keyword Focused Site Will Not Rank for Keyword
Hi All, I need your help. This site is confounding me. The site is turnstilefactory.com It's a few years old. Strong domain name and seo focused on the term 'turnstile'. In bound links are not abundant, but certainly not absent either. Considering the subject matter, content and competition in the space, I would expect this site by now to at least be in the top 10 pages for the search 'turnstile', but it's not. I've tried everything I can think of with this, but it just won't rank for anything other than it's domain name. Can anyone please take a look and let me know if they see something I'm missing? It would be appreciated. Thanks.

Planning a Link Building Campaign: Which keywords to focus on?
Okay, so looking at my ranking tab for my campaign. It shows the increase in traffic from my keywords, ranks, etc. My goal is to increase traffic, thereby sales. I am trying to plan a link building campaign (aside from the onpage optimization) and get as many keywords within the top 10 as possible: Do I start focusing on a certain number of keywords that are on page 2 (lets say 10) and try to build links to get them within the top 10. Then pick another 10 keywords? Do I pick a variety of keywords from various pages? What is the smartest way of trying to optimize campaign keywords as far as linkbuilding?

Sudden rank drop for 1 keyword
A page of mine (http://loginhelper.com/networks/facebook-login/) was ranking in the top 10 for keyword (facebook login) and has been for at least 2 months, moving between 5th and 10th. Suddenly in the last 3 days the rank for the keyword dropped from 7th to 46th, yet none of the other keywords have been affected (they target other pages) and their ranks have continued to improve. I am trying to figure out what caused this sudden drop in the ranking of 1 page (the page has quality mainly text based content and isn't in the least bit shallow or spammy) I have been thinking perhaps a crawl or server error may be to cause leaving the page temporarily unavailable or with a big load time... Otherwise what could cause one page to drop so much so quickly whilst other pages improved their rank?
