Should I hyphenate tags on my blog?
-
Hi Kandice,
Personally, I don't use tags on blogs. Why? They are unnecessary and could confuse search engines.
In my opinion a blog post needs:
- author pages
- category pages
if you are able to post every day, or more, then your teasers appearing on the category pages will be OK. But with less regular updates, I would recommend using the Excerpts feature on WordPress so your category pages contain unique content that differs from the main blog teasers. With your author pages, which are needed to attempt to appear in Google News and/or get rich snippets in Google SERPs (unless you send a rel=author tag to the About page on a single author blog) that have the potential to display author images in the results; I would recommend only showing the titles of previous posts. The above tactics ensure you avoid potential duplicate content issues where you lose control of the page that will get links / be shared / appear in the results.Basically given these needs, why include tags that could risk losing control of the above?

Blog migration
Hi We have 4 websites - 1 for company and 3 for each products. Currently all our blog posts are located on the company website company.com/blog. We will be separating out the blog so that product blogs will be in each product website. i.e. from company.com/blog to: company.com/blog product1.com/blog product2.com/blog product3.com/blog This is with the aim of helping SEO for each of the product websites; and improving user experience so users can easily navigate around the product pages if they are reading a blog post on the product. So now we have to consider migration. We will migrate/copy over all blog posts to each of the relevant product websites, but should we: A. keep the old blog posts on company.com/blog and do a rel=canonical B. only show blog preview on company.com/blog which will link to the new product.com/blog (and using 301 redirect) C. 301 redirect all blog posts from company.com/blog altogether Any suggestions on which of the above options to take would be greatly appreciated in terms of SEO and other considerations

Company Blog Killing our Rankings?
Our product is organic, eco, natural etc. Our blog covers organic, eco, natural culture. Sounds like a winner right? But what if we sold jars and our blog rarely talked about jars because jars are Boring? In webmaster tools, our keyword significance for the word organic is ranked 1st but for the word jars we're ranked 41st . Should i be placing our blog on a subdomain to make sure Google starts placing more emphasis on our jars? ie content on our site rather than content on our blog?

Blog Anchor Text SEO Query
Apologies if the following is a basic question but I am just starting out with SEO and I have seen this quite a lot recently on sites I have been on. My question is if you have a self hosted blog e.g. blog.site.com or site.com/blog and you use keyword anchor text in your blog post does that bring SEO benefits in itself or does the blog post have to be shared/commented by readers to have an effect? I have seen/heard of many sites spending a lot of money getting copy done or spending their own time and resources starting a blog but the blogs remain unshared or comment-less. I am starting my own blog to go with my social media and website so I wanted to establish the basics. Thanks in advance guys.

Should I Have No Index, No Follow On Blog Category & Tag Pages?
At some point in the past I read or was told that No Index, No Follow tags on category and tag pages were a good thing on a standard WordPress blog in order to prevent duplicate content issues. Is this still true or was it ever true?
