Content Marketing: Should we build a separate website or built in site within the Website itself?
-
Hi Mozzers,
Client: Big carpet cleaner player in the carpet cleaning industry
Main Goal: Creating good content to Get more organic traffic to our main site
Structure of the extra content: It will act like a blog but will be differentiated from the regular site by not selling anything but just creating good content. The look and design will be different from the client's site.
SEO question: In terms of SEO, what would be the most beneficial for us to do, should we built in this new section/site outside or inside the client's site?
I personally think that it should be separated from the main site because of the main reasons:
- A followed link to the main site
- Anchor texts implementation linking back to our service pages
If we would to choose to build in this content, it would be highly beneficial for getting organic traffic within the main site but I am afraid this will not provide us any link juice since anchor texts won't be accounted the same since all of those would be located in the Nav bar of the main site.
Can someone tell me what would be the best in terms of SEO?
P.S: My boss doesn't agree with me and would rather go the second option (build in within the main site) that's why i am asking you guys what would be the most beneficial?
Thank you Guys

Glad to hear it, Taysir, and good luck!

Hi Taysir,
My recommendation is to put the new content on the company's site. Here's why:
-
You will be developing a much richer, helpful site for the business
-
The value of repeatedly linking from site B to site A from the new content is going to get old and repetitious. You would be better off winning links from sites not owned by the business rather than counting on interlinking between two company sites in hopes of influencing rank.
-
Remember, every time someone finds one of the new articles you'll be writing in the SERPs, they will be entering the company site and being exposed to its brand and calls to action. The more doorways you have leading directly to the company site, the more chances you are creating for that phone to ring and new customers to be one.
Hope this helps!

Is there a difference between .us and .org for a website targetting the US market?
Hello, We were searching for some evidence regarding this and couldn't find much so the question. We have a service that is related only to the USA market. If we buy a .us domain name with the service we provide in the domain name will google treat it the same with a .org? We did searches regarding this but didn't see too many .us domains popping up. Unfortunately the .com is not available. Thank you

Mobile First Index: What Could Happen To Sites w Large Desktop but Small Mobile Sites?
I have a question about how Mobile First could affect websites with separate (and smaller) mobile vs desktop sites. Referencing this SE Roundtable article (seorountable dot com /google-mobile-first-index-22953.html), "If you have less content on your mobile version than on your desktop version - Google will probably see the less content mobile version. Google said they are indexing the mobile version first." But Google/ Gary Illyes are also on the record stating the switch to mobile-first should be minimally disruptive. Does "Mobile First" mean that they'll consider desktop URLs "second", or will they actually just completely discount the desktop site in lieu of the mobile one? In other words: will content on your desktop site that does not appear in mobile count in desktop searches? I can't find clear answer anywhere (see also: /jlh-marketing dot com/mobile-first-unanswered-questions/). Obviously the writing is on the wall (and has been for years) that responsive is the way to go moving forward - but just looking for any other viewpoints/feedback here since it can be really expensive for some people to upgrade. I'm basically torn between "okay we gotta upgrade to responsive now" and "well, this may not be as critical as it seems". Sigh... Thanks in advance for any feedback and thoughts. LOL - I selected "there may not be a right answer to this question" when submitting this to the Moz community. 🙂

Website Indexing Issues - Search Bots will only crawl Homepage of Website, Help!
Hello Moz World, I am stuck on a problem, and wanted to get some insight. When I attempt to use Screaming Spider or SEO Powersuite, the software is only crawling the homepage of my website. I have 17 pages associated with the main domain i.e. example.com/home, example.com/sevices, etc. I've done a bit of investigating, and I have found that my client's website does not have Robot.txt file or a site map. However, under Google Search Console, all of my client's website pages have been indexed. My questions, Why is my software not crawling all of the pages associated with the website? If I integrate a Robot.txt file & sitemap will that resolve the issue? Thanks ahead of time for all of the great responses. B/R Will H.

Content Marketing: Use of the words "guest post" in outreach email
Hello, I'm marketing a useful article in our niche, appealing to the humanitarian side of things and I always show I'm a reciprocator. Should my wording in my outreach email be: ...to write a guest post around this article: http://... Or should I just ask if they want help with content and go from there? In other words, should I always call it a guest post for maximum conversions? Thanks.

How worth it is it to pursue websites who steal your content via cease/desist or DMCA takedown?
We publish popular general interest content. Using a commercial scanning service, we've found our copied content in many places. Is there an SEO value in getting copied content removed from websites who infringe / copy our content? It is a time consuming process and many infringements. And.... what if they copy the content, but include original links to our site in the content. Ironically, this is actually generating links for us - does this affect the answer?
