Old Site not Passing Along Links?
-
Recently, we created a new website for a client, and put it on a new domain. We put a 301 redirect site-wide on the old site. The 301 is working correctly, and any visit to the old site is now going to the new one. So, from a functionality standpoint, we're looking good.
However, looking at the domain authority of the sites, it doesn't seem that the old links are passing value to the new site. The old site had 43 linking root domains, and a domain authority of 30, compared to the new site with 16 linking root domains and an authority of 22. If I understand correctly, the links should be viewed as pointing to the new site and passing link juice to the new one, correct? Is there a reason why this may be happening that I should be looking into? Any thoughts or advice on this one would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the responses guys.
I know that you won't get the full link juice, but it looked like some weren't even getting seen. That does explain a lower authority though.
The transfer was done about 2 months ago. I thought after the first month, things would be basically ironed out, but I'll just give it more time and build other links in the meantime.
Thanks for your help!

How long ago did you do the 301 redirect? It can take a couple of crawls for OSE to pick up and calculate the new data. Take a look tomorrow at the numbers and see if they've changed -- we're ahead of schedule on rolling out a new index and that may have some improved numbers for you.

A 301 redirect takes time, all those links need to be calculated. If the page where your link is sitting does not get indexed, neither does the link you have on it. I recommend checking all of your backlinks and having the webmasters/website owners of those sites change your links to the new domain. Dont spend too much time on this however definitely work on your better more authoritative links.

301 redirects don't pass 100% of link juice. It's more like 60%-80%. That's the answer. I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Linking to the same sites from more than one of my sites, is this bad?
If I work for a company that has more than one website within the same industry and we have separate websites within that industry. An example would be: CarLoans.com HomeLoans.com & PersonalLoans.com The only difference from this example is that we are a B2B Company. My question is: is it bad to acquire links from the same external websites for multiple websites that we own and want to rank for? If I establish a relationship with Forbes or some other website and I can get links to several of our sites, will it ever be bad to link to all of our websites from this one website. I am asking not just for high domain authority website like Forbes, but also for websites that may have a DA in the 30's 40's and 50's as well. Thank you

Am I better off with ten links from one site or one link from ten sites?
I am writing a series of linked-back articles for a highly-ranked web publisher, but wonder if I'd be better off sharing the articles across different sites. My goal is to grow our domain authority and SEO rankings.

Spammy links redirecting to homepage of site -
Hey guys, I'm auditing a website at the moment and Moz is showing a few spammy links linking to it. The problem is these domains are all 301 redirecting to the domain I'm auditing. Let's say I'm auditing Site A. Site B is been flagged in Moz OSE with 12 spam flags. When I try to open Site B in a browser, it redirects back to Site A. What's the best thing to do, here? Disavowing domains redirecting to the site is surely a bad idea? Cheers.

When will link farms and back sites be penalized or when will the website using them as backlinks be penalized?
After doing some backlink searching on competitors, I see a great deal of competitor's backlinks are obvious linkfarms and just completely unrelated to their field. Also I see a lot of forum comments using links are showing as backlinks, upon inspecting the html element I see they're " no follow " links. Why are they showing up as backlinks with link equity then?

Old Links Remove or not to remove?
Hey everyone, So i have a site which I had previous seo work on over the years, none of which was successful for me. Now that I have taken over the seo work, I am analyzing my old links I have a certain amount of links from what I would see are "crappy" seo sites and I wondered if I need to try and remove them. Here are a few examples. http://seorankingsresult.com/what-to-consider-when-shopping-for-electricians-tools/ http://seoservicepackages.com/tag/electricians-tools/ How do I check if google has penalized me for these links and should I start removing them? ThanksMichelle

Why does Open Site Explorer list Twitter and Facebook links for one of my sites and not others
One of my sites has the nofollow backlink listed for Facebook and Twitter while 2 other sites do not. All 3 sites have had accounts for over a year. Does the amount of interactivity with the social media profiles have to do with it? I know it is a nofollow link but I was just curious as those profiles might help with the brand signal etc.
