Current best link building practise
-
Hi guys,
Just an open discussion. I don't want to be told to use directories or just 'guest blog'.. What is the best method you are currently using? A lot of my competitors are using older techniques for quick wins but we're wary to do that due to the long term consequences...
Thanks

I really like this approach, and I think it is very beneficial. How do you use this approach on a topic that is not that interesting. You may get one or ever ten articles however I feel like this becomes redundant especially if all these article s are on the same site. For example if you had a client that was doing property management or apartment rentals, what would you write about? and how much of this can you create?

The most powerful links currently come from guest blog posts.
Other ones that work well - ppt sharing (slideshare), document share (scribd), videos, press releases, relevant blog comments, local citations
To a lesser extent - web2.0 properties, article submissions
The key is quality, not quantity. Develop strong profiles (completely filled out, multiple entries, high quality content) on top sites instead of spamming thousands of sites. These give you direct traffic and even rank on their own in serps (if you choose the right keywords).
Couple that with high quality, fresh content on your own site and you're golden.

The only method that I use is to write articles and post them on my websites. Lots of people will say that this is a very slow method of getting links and I would agree. However, I spend zero time on any linkbuilding effort and instead put all of my time into building assets for my websites.
This will not work for everyone. For it to work you must be able to create content that people will want to share with their friends. You can help this along by adding social share buttons in an obvious location on your site.
If you do this for a few years your site becomes larger, has more pages pulling traffic and by that time you have a steady flow of traffic. Your site also by then has a lot of momentum and that drives your progress at a much faster rate.

Links from other authoritative sites that are helpful to your users. There are many ways of getting these links: Help them fix page problems and after you help them ask for a link. Offer them some value and then after you give some value to the site owner you can ask for a link in return.

Link Building
I'm having difficulty creating a solid link base. I would prefer to only have links that are on relevant sites that are likely to drive traffic rather then just adding my company page to site directories. I've checked out the whiteboard Friday edition of link building and have also used the new Moz analytics that helps recommend sites to link to, but all the recommendations were directories. So, could anyone hold my hand and guide me through the world of Link building? Your help, as always, is much appreciated. Thanks everyone Dave

Link Building - Affiliate Link Programs
I'm getting some conflicting information when researching this... I want to create the most organic link building strategy that not only gets high authority sites linking to a website, but relevant websites. I'm creating an affiliate link program where I link to partner and affiliate companies, who in turn link back to me. The question is where to put these links. I was initially thinking of putting them in the footer so they add credibility to every page, and in turn ask my affiliates to do the same thing. However; some sources say that Google no longer looks at links in the footer section. Is it true that Google doesn't count links in footer sections? And do you have any tips on creating this Affiliate Link Program?

Best On-Site Internal Linking Practices?
Hi everyone, Our company works extensively with ecommerce website, and we're beginning to wonder with all of the impending Google updates what our best bets for internal linking practices will be, in particular when it comes to menu options. We typically set up our navigation with top-level categories in the main menu, then drop downs to the sub-category level pages. Our question is, should the links in the drop-down menus be followed, and if so, should they be followed links across all pages of the website, or just on the homepage menu list, or not at all? We're trying to figure out what will pass the most internal linking power without being too much and overly "spammy," I guess. Thanks for your input!

Local Link Building help!
Hi All, Looking for some help with where to begin link building for local small businesses. If the website is leading to a lawyer, doctor, or any type of professional service, I'm at a loss on where to start. I've tried looking into local directories, and I also know that if one of the clients has a reason for being linked in an online news article, those links should be pursued. Additionally, I've gone and helped to claim all local listings, and submitted to DMOZ and a few other directories. So if the website is just leading to a business that isn't running any events or specials worth writing about, what is the best way to acquire links? Thank you! Tyler

GWT Best For Link Checking?
Even though GWT's Links to your site is about a month behind I am finding that it reports new links faster than either OSE or Majestic. Has anybody found anything more current than GWT?

Local service site link building
I have a local service site http://winecountrycarpet.com/ and I have been link building as much as possible for my landing pages (which aren't local to my city, but are within 20 miles). I would like to keep my link building as above board and white hat as possible (so i do a lot of forum sigs and links in do follow forum in my industry) I do not seem to be seeing any results though. My pages are on the first page for their targeted keywords, but I think this has more to do with onsite SEO and non competitive keywords. I am wondering if anyone can recommend any strategies that I might find more effective. I have thought about leaving blog comments on do follow blog's but it just seems so spammy its hard to imagine it working. I am open to any ideas.
