Affiliates content sharing
-
Quick question:
Is it ok to provide our product descriptions to affiliates?
Ho does this effect our SEO as far as duplicate content issue?
Best Regards
-
A common practice is to provide a page for affiliates to access that has unique content, images, banners, etc for affiliates to use. This can be anything from descriptions, to blog posts. Affiliates are pretty busy and appreciate short-cuts, so providing that information to them makes their job easier, and prevents you from the possibility of any duplicate content penalties.

Let's say you are the affiliate program and I am the affiliate.
You allow me to use the descriptions verbatim from your data feed or from your website.
If I have a site with more authority than yours then my site will probably rank higher in Google SERPs than your site. And, if dozens or hundreds of affiliates republish that same content then your site could be filtered from the SERPs or demoted because of a Panda problem.
From a business perspective your sales will be higher if every affiliate writes his own content, then, although they will be direct competitors for primary search queries they will cover more long tail queries and that results in more sales for everyone.
Unfortunately it is hard to force affiliates to create unique content - especially if there are thousands of products being sold.
Maybe you could incentivize and give a slightly higher commission rate for affiliates who after six months can show you that they have unique descriptions for every product that they are promoting.
Back to your original question. If your affiliates are all using your product descriptions, it would be in your best interest to rewrite and improve the descriptions on your own site and tell the affiliates that they are off limits. Either use the descriptions in the datafeed or write your own for a bonus commission rate.

My affiliate links are being crawled by Google. Is this a bad thing? Also, should I add rel: nofollow to affiliate links?
Hi All, I have an issue on Google Search Console. It seems all my affiliate links are being crawled. Is this a bad thing? The reason I found out is that all but one link was flagged with a warming. It goes on to say that it was blocked by robots.txt. The strange thing is that I've not set any links to be blocked in robots.txt. Also, should affiliate links be nofollow? I'm asking because I was recently sent this article by Yoast on how to properly cloak my affiliate links without using a plugin. https://yoast.com/cloak-affiliate-links/ In the method, they apply the nofollow and noindex rules to the links. I'm just a little confused on how to go about affiliate links the SEO friendly way.

How do I easily no-follow my affiliate links?
Hi, I am in the process of setting up an affiliate marketing campaign for my site. I have done a bit of research and understand that it is safest in terms of SEO to add no-follow to the links from the affiliate sites. What is the easiest and simplest way to implement this?

What impact do affiliate links have on SEO
We commonly reference engineering standards on our site (because half our products are known and searched for by those standard names) and have just signed up as an affiliate to an organisation that sell the standards. Which seems a nice match We're going through and making sure all are no follow now because that seems the general advice - but should we be doing anything else? Yoast says you should mask affiliate links - https://yoast.com/affiliate-links-and-seo/ - but that was from 2010. Matt Cutts is fairly clear on nonfollow - http://www.webpronews.com/heres-what-googles-matt-cutts-says-about-affiliate-links-and-nofollow-2012-06 - but not on whether it affects SERPS Does it? And what is the best way to handle it? This is a typical example of a page where we would have an affiliate link or two. http://www.oakleysteel.co.uk/fake-mill-certificates-en10168

Affiliate marketing dead?
I have created a network of travel websites that I have decided to promote little by little.. Also so they getdomain age and google trust.... but now when you search for all my main keyphrases... you either have wikitravel, lonelyplanet, frommers and other big brand. I guess that Google gave them better value as to get trusted travel information... However, it seems it will be very difficult to rank my sites. I could do long tail keyphrases but again might not be worth it... I used to work as a SEO consultant for other travel sites selling products... they still rank pretty well as they are sites of value selling something.. of course threy compete with other sites but we are in the same level. How can you compete with loneyplanet with your affiliate site because I am not selling anything on my sites. I am pretty much desperate. I designed a network of 30 sites... all good content with good SEO on the page... of course, I will be honest. I might have to change the content to make it better... you can check one of my site here; www.simplyparis.org it is worth it or better stop this project and focus on 1 product oriented website ? Is anyone working as an affiliate marketer with experience after google panda and pinguin ? is affiliate marketing dead in 2013 now?

Subdomains and duplicate content issue
Hi, a website I know of, let's call it Americanizedwine.com, is undergoing development. It includes a detailed map of hundreds wine growers right across the Americas, with all the map grower icons / names pointing to unique pages within Americanizedwine.com (info pages with online retail functionality where wine grower wants to sell direct through this website). This website is teaming up with wine magazines / food blogs etc., offering them subdomains of Americanzedwine.com - e.g. [magazinename].americanizedwine.com - to carry within their own websites > duplicating the map and all the wine grower/retail pages from Americanwizedwine.com website, including meta data, etc (hmmmm!). Could you simply use some method to simply tell Google that the mother website is elsewhere, and this subdomain information is simply duplicate copy? Would that suffice I’m wondering? Or will the solution here require deeper exploration?

Two Tier Internet, Bad Blogs and One page Affiliate Sites
Hi, I start a post on a popular internet marketing forum about how bad blogs - (i.e. the ones with one posts of over optimise spun garbage) - and the one page affiliate sites - trying to sell you something... (you know the ones) - were REALLY starting to annoy me and if/when something would be done by ISP's or Anyone really. Obviously google is aware of the issue with trying to push Google Plus to crowd source better search results. But with more and more sites popping up telling people how they can make money from having a niche website/page with adwords on it aren't we fast moving to a two tier internet.... How websites/pages exist purely to game search engines.... and will they ever disappear.... Sorry mini rant..... might even get some ideas for a blog post 😛 (not on a bad blog before anyone says anything)
