How should we handle ecommerce section pages (flagged with duplication) containing the same products?

We've removed a ton of errors, duplication and other stuff since signing up to SEOmoz Pro, but we're getting to the point where what we have left isn't that easy to fix. On one of our (ecommerce) sites we have several sections where people buy products that are applicable to the area of the home. In one or two instances, a particular list of products is the same for two or more different areas - for instance the "Bedroom and Landings" and "Hallway and Stairs" sections may list the same 10 products. This is obviously flagging up as duplication in our reports.
What is the best way to handle this situation? Make the one with the highest authority canonical? Point both to another canonical page? Or, try and convince the product department that we should have a more generically name section that both link to?

Yes - to both you and @MagicDude4Eva - it seems this is about the thin content as opposed to the index of products listed there. Page titles and URLs are indeed unique, but the content can certainly be worked on. Thanks a lot for your help

Is your descriptive text very similar and thin?
I have had a similar situation and all I did was take some time to beef up the content of the page and make sure it was unique - this resolved the issue which I believe you have - even though the list of products was the same..
I know the areas are very similar but with some thought you should be able to produce some unique content for it, if your current content is similar and thin?

If you have multiple sections listing the same products and there is only one product URL (and the product page itself uses a canonical) there isn't an issue. (and I am not quite sure where the duplication problem comes in).
i.e. "Bedroom" would list "/lamp.html" and "/carpet.html" as unique product URLs. Your "Hallway"-section would also list "/lamp.html" and "/carpet.html" - although there is duplication of products on the listing pages, this is irrelevant from an indexing/SEO perspective.
Your category URLs (Bedroon and Landings) are also unique and not the actual cause of duplication (i.e. a category map with unique anchor texts but duplicate URLs and not canonical)?

The products only exist at one URL - but they can appear in multiple sections. The sections have different titles/descriptive text at the top, but list the same products.

If the products are exactly the same mark all products with the same canonical URL. If the duplication is not on URL level, but title suffix the title with the deparment/area.

How to best handle search landing pages - that don't exist
I have quite a bit of blog information that can be searched, which results in "pages" that don't actually live anywhere. Duplicate page titles and Content in Woocommerce

I run a eCommerce site on Wordpress + WooCommerce and ofcourse use Yoast for SEO optimalisation I've got a question about my first Crawl report which showed over 600 issues! 😐 I've read that this is something that happens more often (http://moz.com/blog/setup-wordpress-for-seo-success). Most of them are categorized under:
1. Duplicate Page Titles or;
2. Duplicate Page Content. Duplicate Page Titles:
These are almost only: product category pages and product tags. Is this problem beeing solved by giving them the right SEO SERP? I see that a lot of categories don't have a proper SEO SERP set up in yoast! Do I need to add this to clear this issue, or do I need to change the actual Title? And how about the Product tags? Another point (bit more off-topic) I've read here: http://moz.com/community/q/yoast-seo-plugin-to-index-or-not-to-index-categories that it's advised to noindex/follow Categories and Tags but isn't that a wierd idea to do for a eCommerce site?! Duplicate Page Content:
Same goes here almost only Product Categories and product tags that are displayed as duplicate Page content! When I check the results I can click on a blue button for example "+ 17 duplicates" and that shows me (in this case 17 URLS) but they are not related to the fist in any way so not sure where to start here? Is it better to have an hreflang go to the home page in a different language if there's no corresponding page
If I have some pages in English, but not in Spanish on my website: Should my hreflang go to the home page on the Spanish site? Or should I not have an "es-MX" hreflang for that page? Ideally I would have all the pages translated, but this has not all been done yet.

Why isn't our site being shown on the first page of Google for a query using the exact domain, when its pages are indeed indexed by Google
When I type our domain.com as a query into Google, I only see one of our pages on the homepage, and it's in 4th position. It seems though, that all pages of the site are indexed by google when I type in the query "site:domain.com". There was an issue at the site launch, where the robots.txt file was left active for around two weeks. Would this have been responsible for the fact that another domain ranks #1 when we type in our own domain? It has been around a couple of months now since the site was launched. Thanks in advance.

Home page duplicated content issue
Hi there! The home page of my site can be seen under www.mysitename.com and www.mysitename.com/EN/ or www.mysitename.com/ES/ (depending on your language). I understand that this is duplicated content because they show the same content under different URLs. To solve this we've done (depending on your language) a 301 redirect from www.mysitename.com to www.mysitename.com/EN/ or www.mysitename.com/ES/ Is this correct? Thanks!
