Hit Hard By Panda 20, Road To Recovery?
-
It's been 4+ years and we haven't been hit or affected by any update. But, on September 27th we were hit by Panda 20.
Does anyone have any idea where to start to recover? Any resources help at this point. Should i be focusing on re-writing my OLD web content? Should i focus on building more links?
Like i said, anything helps at this point. thanks,
Paul

Don't mean to distract from Paul's issues, but Marie I have to take issue with your Panda analysis. One of my websites was also hit hard by Panda over 27-29 September. It is NOT an EMD site, by the most common interpretations, so it can only be Panda.
The site has 130 pages of mostly very well-written content, tight on topic, targeting long-tail search phrases. So it does not fall into the "very little crawlable text" category.
The site has no duplicated content. I have run Copyscape across every page of the site and nothing more than about 3-4% duplication. It may be that the internal tag linking structure, or pointer domains, give Google an impression of duplicate content, but SEOMoz says my canonical structures are good.
There are virtually no spelling or grammar mistakes on the site, unless Google cannot handle international spelling. I am a writer by profession.
There are very few ads on the site at all. Certainly not to the level Google describes in its Panda rules.
So why was my site hit by Panda? And what can I do to recover? I am currently working through every single SEOMoz Pro report and checking the site page by page using the analysis tools, but what I am coming up with is really marginal.
The only things I can imagine could have been of concern to Google were (1) I had some scraped affiliate content on the site - hotels by location; (2) I had a decommissioned URL with a lot of indexed posts pointed at my domain; and (3) I had a lot of 404 errors due to a major change in permalink structure. (1) and (2) were corrected weeks before Panda and (3) has also been corrected.
I understand there has already been a Panda refresh since September and it made no difference at all. I had no messages from Google and they have confirmed (through a reconsideration request) that no manual penalty has been applied. All URLs are still indexed on Google, but appear around pages 45-50 of the results. I still get a trickle of Google search traffic, but overall it's down 85-90%.
URL is traveltipsthailand DOT com if anyone cars to check it out and give me their thoughts. Maybe Paul can also learn from what I am doing.

So - any luck?

I can't tell you if it's Panda 20 or the EMD update. The domains that dropped aren't EMD's but they are linked to by a few prominent ones which seem to have dropped in the SERPS... hmmm..

It's important to know that Panda is completely about on page issues and not your backlink profile.
The key issue is to look for pages on your site that have the following:
-Very little crawlable text
-Content that is duplicated either on your own site or across the web.
-A large amount of spelling or grammar mistakes
-A distracting number of ads.
Then, on those pages you need to either add substantial content that is helpful to the reader, change content so it is not duplicated, noindex the page (either via a noindex tag or through robots.txt), or get rid of the page altogether.
You can read more detail abou this here.
For some sites this can be difficult...for example, affiliate sites with very little unique content. I have seen others though that can recover with some hard work.
We tend to get a Panda refresh about every 3-6 weeks, so if you make the changes and Google is satisfied that you are now providing quality, unique content to readers then you can recover your rankings completely with the next refresh.

Weird - I will check my settings. I was able to send you a PM with my email though. You should have it
-
I tried to send a PM by looks like you have them disabled Maybe you can send me one with your email?
-
Cool - had to ask, no offence. I will watch for the PM
-
No email from google because i have not engaged in any black-hat link building. I'll send you a PM.
-
What is your URL? Did you get an email from Google stating that there was a penalty or anything like that?

What are the top 20 whitelisted SEO content publishing channels?
With Hubpages in the penalty box right now, I am looking for other inbound marketing channels to syndicate original content to relevant audiences. I am currently using SlideShare, but I am looking for other channels. Will you share 10-20 of your recommended content publishing channels that syndicate SEO content? Context: What I need are channels that are: Low to no budget ($0-50 annual, if they exist) Ability to upload SEO content - landing pages, infographics, blog posts, images, videos. Any content type - channels that publish at least 1 of each of the content types I mentioned Targeted, relevant traffic (we would assess that one) Ability to comment, share or vote (Like) the content White-listed by Google, most importantly Examples:

Hit by Penguin 2.0
Hi, The site I'm working on seems to have been suffered from the Penguin 2.0 algorithmic update. It used to rank at position 1 for its top traffic term (which is very competitive) but now ranks at position 12. The traffic seems to have dropped since 22nd May 2013 when the update rolled out. There aren't any dodgy backlinks to the site. The only two things that changed just a month before Penguin 2.0 were – The meta title, description and H1 of the site’s homage changed The site received about 30,000+ backlinks from its parent site which sits on a different domain. These links were as a result of the site being included as part of the parent site’s main navigation which appears site wide. The parent site is a reputed and authority site. So I don’t understand why Google would penalise the site for acquiring links from its parent site (even though they are site wide links). Also, the links acquired from parent's site were not just homepage links but also links to some of its other deeper pages. Can somebody please suggest if they've had any similar experience and suffered the Penguin 2.0’s wrath? Any suggestions or solutions, most welcome. Should I be thinking of nofollowing those links? Should I submit a reconsideration request to Google? Many Thanks Pri

Penguin 2.0 Update - Just Hit - Google Messes up again, can anyone on SEOMOZ please tell me why or how some of these websites are ranking?
I am getting a bit tired now writing all of this so please excuse grammar and spelling mistakes, I wanted to post this up quickly tonight so I could possibly get some feedback by morning. So I feel I figured out some of the new update that just hit and I am sure the update will continue to keep coming and rankings will most likely change for a while, but I do have a few questions in the mean time if they stay. Please look below, why would some of those sites be ranking? Some sites utilize no onpage SEO, some no backlinks, one of the sites is a single page site and every page is a broken link even the contact us page and it's rank 1..... I am not 100% sure that Google got this one right. I see many instances below where other sites are much higher quality and have more authority. It's as if Google took terrible sites and said here is a site for you, now deal with it and I hope it works out at the top. I do see several sites that belong on the first page, but I see others that are very questionable. This is how the following is written below. Before the url is the anchor text density % for the site. This indicates the percentage of the amount of times the anchor text was backlined versus other anchor texts they used. Issues with the sites. Most of these sites don't utilize onpage SEO and it's clearly not a factor for onpage density purposes, there is a site with 37% keyword density on it. Some sites even have broken links. Please note: I already know that there is a lot of data that is analyzed to determine rankings more than this, but PA/DA is suppose to be a major factor according to everyone that believes in SEOMOZ.org. So I am taking in account for many of those factors being calculated due to this. These are just some random keywords I picked, because I know you need to analyze other SEO firms after and update to figure out what lasted and what didn't. All of my sites lasted due to ethical tactics, but I had some rankings move down and others go up, very odd. Keyword Analyzed: CHEAP SEO Not Knowng http://searchengineland.com/the-hidden-cost-of-cheap-seo-social-labor-131585 92-DA 75-PA - A lot of content 4715 words on the page including comments. not known http://www.searchenginejournal.com/why-theres-no-such-thing-as-cheap-seo-or-link-building/45932/ 87DA 63 PA Words on page 3673 Not known www.cheap-seo-solutions.com 26 DA -- 38 PA 1112 words on page 9.52% www.cheapseocompany.com 34 DA ---- 41 PA 10 + anchor texts but 623 words on page 10.26% seocheap.net 35 DA --- 45 PA 10 + anchor text 855 words on the page I am not 100% sure why this is ranking lol, the services page isn't even working it errors out. The onpage SEO is sloppy and the writing looks forced. Why is this even ranking? The site also looks low quality. The density is higher than SEOMOZ even and it has less words. In this case DA + words carried this site up, not the anchor ratio being low. 6.17% http://www.cheapseo-services.com cheap seo Page Authority DA 28 -- PA 38 276 Words No onpage, 35 duplicate pages, free template, etc.. etc.. 10% www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-do-seo-cheap DA 94 --- PA 56 only 5 anchor texts used on this page. 8651 Words I am willing to bet if you diversified this with about 5 more anchor texts this could be number 1 easy. Any Information on Panda Update #21?
A site we've been working on and doing well with (relatively new) got hit pretty hard on November 4th and 5th. Since then, traffic is down considerably and we're trying to diagnose what specific triggers may have caused such a change.

Google Panda 2.5 Update?
On Sunday 18th Sept I noticed a huge drop in our rankings for keywords that we were doing extremely well. Majority of the keyword SERP positions for our main targetted keywords were #1 and #2. These have all drop the bottom part of first page. Other new keywords we were targetting had climbed very well (some hovering just below top 10 and some in top 10 of Google UK SERP. These have all completely dropped off. Although analysing the site thouroughly (both on-page and link profile) it doesnt appear to have any issue significant enough to cause a penalty. From Monday 20th Sept (everybody back to work) the threads here http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=76830633df82fd8e&hl=en&start=5760 and http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4364389.htm seem to be buzzing over unexpected SERP drops and increases. By that I assume Panda 2.5 or at least some form of update taken/taking place? If anybody know of the reent heavy fluctuations which seem to have started in the weeken or have experienced unexpected positions increaes/drops, I would be very interested to hear/read from you. Cheers, Mo Raja
