Duplicate Content
-
I am wondering what is the best way to show google that there is duplicate content on the page. for example on our product pages they are unique content except we give the same guarantee and promise on every product providing some duplicate content. What is the best way to fix this issue?

putting in sidebar will still be detected by Google so no use I guess.
You can do one thing, just make one page of Guarantee and add guarantee button (saying checkout our guarantee) and then add this button to each page, users can click on this button to check out your guarantee and duplicate content issue will be solved. Because in this case now we only have pone page of grantee and its only the button that exists at multiple pages!!

Yeah that's a lot of text. Not sure how Google reacts to that. However, what I am sure about is that Google will recognize patterns in structure, so maybe you should consider placing your guarantee in the sidebar or some other navigational spot. I know it kinda requires a bit of restructuring of your content and boxes, but maybe it's worth the effort

It is a good amount of text if you go here http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/49/-/181/1137/-/19426/Bridgestone-Battlax-BT45-V-Rated-Rear-Motorcycle-Tire and click on the "Our Guarantee" you can see what i am talking about.

I would say it depends on the length of your product descriptions. If your guarantees etc are like 50-100 words and your product description is 200 words, Google most likely wont consider those pages for duplicates.
However, you can help Google to figure out the context, so if you place your guarantees within a box in the aside-tag or similar, Google will most likely "guess" your website structure and consider your guarantees a static element like your navigation, footer etc.

Many ecommerce sites have this same problem. But Google's algo is complex enough to understand that there is a bit of similar content on such sites. So if its not a big chunk of text its should be ok. And I am not aware of any code of fix to this issue.
All you can do is make 4 or 5 combination (different versions of your guarantee text and use them alternatively to at least ease things a bit)

Community Discussion: Can 10x content be short-form content?
In his (intentionally very short) post on Tuesday, Rand makes the case that long-form content isn't necessarily great content: "Rather than applying a tactic like long-form content universally or setting length as the bar (or even a metric) for greatness, we instead match our content to our audience's needs and our business/personal goals. 700 more words will not help you reach your goals any more than 7 more words. Create content that helps people. Do it efficiently. Never write an ultimate guide where a single image could more powerfully convey the same value. Trust me; your audience and your bottom line will thank you." I think this is something we all struggle with as online marketers, in one way or another. As someone who casually consumes online content on a regular basis, this also resonates with me on a personal level. I'm curious, what are your hesitations with focusing on shorter-form content that packs a wallop, and what excites you about it? Can you think of any examples of content you've come across that you consider 10x short-form content?

Community Discussion - Are data AND storytelling the missing ingredients for successful content marketing efforts?
Data is an important element of content marketing. Storytelling, too, gets readers' attention and has been shown to be instrumental in prospects and customers forming strong connections to brands. But using data and storytelling helps produce some of the strongest content there is to be shared, says Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré in her latest YouMoz article, Here’s How to Combine Storytelling and Data to Produce Persuasive Content. What are your thoughts? Think data and storytelling work best separately? Read the post are share your thoughts below. RS

SEO for a News based site : Outdated content
How do we maintain the SEO of a 5 year old News content based site? How should we deal with 3-4 year old content, which are outdated or not searched? Some of them are still useful as archiving/history of a topic..but not searched.... ?? Should we no-index them? or should we keep it like that?

Integration of content on other sites
(by Google Traductor) Hello, we are able to make agreements with sites of good quality and reputation to integrate our classified ads for agropeuariosector on the websites of these companies. We fear that thesesites begin to index all this content and begin to compete with us in organic positioning. On the other hand this would generateduplicate content? That strategy will be applied in order to do so. Greetings and thanks!

Displaying archive content articles in a writers bio page
My site has writers, and each has their own profile page (accessible when you click their name inside an article). We set up the code in a way that the bios, in addition to the actual writer photo/bio, would dynamically generate links to each article he/she produces. Figured that someone reading something by Bob Smith, might want to read other stuff by him. Which was fine, initially. Fast forward, and some of these writers have 3,4, even 15 pages of archives, as the archive system paginates every 10 articles (so www.example.com/bob-smith/archive-page3, etc) My thinking is that this is a bad thing. The articles are likely already found elsewhere in the site (under the content landing page it was written for, for example) and I visualize spiders getting sucked into these archive black holes, never to return. I also assume that it is just more internal mass linking (yech) and probably doesnt help the overall TOS/bounce/exit, etc. Thoughts?
