Changing to a cdn
-
Hi everybody,
we want to implement a cdn and I am not sure about, how to handle to old image-Urls.
We move all our product-Images to one or more cdn hosts, while the old host (and the old image-urls, which are indexed very well) will stay alive, so I do worry about that dc-thing....
What would be the best way to handle this? Sending Canonicals for the images? Redirects? Or nothing to worry about ?
Thanx and all the best from here
Hubert

Thank you for playing up exactly what you are asking you do not have to change any subdomain that exists so sure www.keep it as is when you add the CDN you will be asked to add a thing that says a second subdomain however I give you my word on this because it's a sine it's aliasing this as If it were coming from the same location www.should stay if it is Artie there you should not change your link structure except for to simply add the DNS CDN the DNS the reason you cannot add it directly to www. is it will not work if it's a direct link. Before my address was www.BlueprintMarketing.com After three CDN's into house it's still done www.BlueprintMarketing.com that will never change it's only your interior links That are affected so your normal links that anyone would click on would never be touched in this situation you would it would not be like running a subdomain for a blog or anything like that this is a subdomain for seeing name and to take advantage of the CVS so I understand why you're concerned and you bring up a very valid point but they've gotten around that system Akamai for instance has an outstanding support team as well they do not need you to change your X terminal links only internal links it will not hurt your search engine optimization As mentioned above (and for some technical scenarios) the old imageurl of the product will be valid. So for one image, I will have *two" URLs: So in your example below the upload address might be the first URL the second URL is simply a Cname that then points to your domain So this stays the same as well as all the other links that are like it www.shop.com/ In the source code you will then be able to tell all me then will you see the CDN. cdn.shop.com/images/my-beautifull-image.jpg And my question is: How to handle this in the best way: The best way is to simply follow the instructions oh I have an idea I'm going to private message you my login information to a CDN account and I will show you how it works okay?

Sorry, I might have not told exactly want I want... next up:
- 1st of all: I am (almost) completely aware about, how a CDN is working. This is not my problem.
- I am not using a wp or other open source cms. We run a selfdeveloped ecommerce-System.
- We implement a media asset management system to our site, what is using a cdn. The vendor for the cdn system will be akamai. I am not sure about at the moment,
if we can take advantage of the whole akamai feature... - Talking about a "host": I ment the host in termns of the domain. Equivalent would be "subdomain". Say this is our Domain shop.com. In my world "www" is a "host" (subdomain) of the domain shop.com as well as "cdn" would be in your example.
We have thousands of product images indexed by google what brings us lot of traffic and conversions .. we worked hard on that and its working just fine !
All of our content (i.e. application, styles, js a.o.) and especially our productimages can be refered under the one and only subdomain "www".An indexed image might be
www.shop.com/images/my-beautifull-image.jpgWith the implementaion of the cdn, the host "www" has to change, say "cdn", because otherwise the delegation (cname) to the cdn is not possible.
So the image can be refered also by
cdn.shop.com/images/my-beautifull-image.jpgAs mentioned above (and for some technical scenarios) the old imageurl of the product will be valid. So for one image, I will have *two" URLs:
www.shop.com/images/my-beautifull-image.jpg
cdn.shop.com/images/my-beautifull-image.jpgAnd my question is: How to handle this in the best way:
- don't let the old subdomain "www" happen, when the new is on... I loose all backlinks to images then and everything has to be reindexed.
- Redirect www -> to cdn, if requested ...
- sending a http-Canoncial tag pointing to the cdn-Host "cdn" when requested on the domain "www".
- exclude the old "www" host in the robots.txt (uuuuuaahhh dont like that)
... or still: not worry about it, Google will take care of it ?? Hmmm...
Thanx anyway
-
1st get a CDN and a host before you start worrying about redirects and
"Sending Canonicals for the images? Redirects?"
the answer is "nothing to worry about Or nothing to worry about"
CDN's will allow you to change Robot text and header info many times if you tell me the vendor using I can be of a lot more help however a very popular one for instance is Max CDN take a look at them and see if they have a phone number and have support walk you through it 99% of the time this is a simple procedure and the CDN will take over for your old links that are just so they're not destroyed there simply replaced with essentially better links.
you must change your DNS over to reflect the change as well you need to make a sine I would name it CDN
then place whatever the link made by the CDN company is for the push for pull then it will look like this
to see how in the very beginning after HTTP:// you see CDN that is because that was the only change to the link when the CDN was put into the DNS's using a cname print since this is what my DNS looks like
| <a id="yui-gen441" class="tooltip" name="*.blueprintmarketing.com.">cdn.blueprintmarketing.com cname pointing to</a> | <a id="yui-gen443" class="tooltip" name="blueprint.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com.">blueprint.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com</a> |
this way I just turn on the CDN to be honest from use in a managed word press host in my case I'm using WP engine, Zippy kid, page.ly & Websynthesis.com they are easy to use I would say for CDN Zippykid.com is the only one that comes standard with a content delivery network for 25 bucks you can't beat it
Respectfully,
Thomas

good list
http://www.cdn-advisor.com/companies/
http://www.distributioncloud.com/contact/thanks.html yet to try this one but have only heard good things
http://www.bitgravity.com/ great for video
http://www.edgecast.com/ extremely fast in the United States
http://blog.highwinds.com/highwinds-free-trial? gclid=CKiqt732gLQCFUeRPAodxm4AUQ free trial using this link
http://www.cdn77.com/ very inexpensive but does everything and has a lot of pops
http://www.maxcdn.com/ very easy to use and inexpensive but still good
http://www.netdna.com/ a great all-around cdn
may I ask you 1st off do have a HTML website, WordPress or something else?
is your host a managed host? do happen to have their name?
what is the name of the CDN that you're using?
I can help you and to answer your question what most often happens with a content delivery network and an existing site is the CDN will mirror all your current photographs onto its network sometimes depending on the vendor it will even reduce the size regardless it will cash them to pops all over the world and speed up your site quite a bit if you have a lot of photos and video. If you're using WordPress and a plug-in you have it a lot easier than if your not.
why did you say you moved to a new host? do you think that the CDN is your host or sorry I have to ask did you actually move to a different hosting company then you were with prior?
if it's WordPress or any thing really all you have to do is let the CDN mirror the images then it will update the links automatically. If you have to go in and hand do it it will not be fun.
If you are using WordPress I hope you are I would strongly suggest manage WordPress host I don't know about you but I like to have my hosting work not worked for it check out Zippy kid, WP engine, page.ly and Web synthesis if you are using a simple CDN like cloud flare I can tell you it's a matter of just changing the DNS however if you're using a regular CDN which I imagine you are like edge you have to mirror everything on to edge that you want to be served from the content delivery network at that point the CDN will create new links the new links will be static and serve your content throughout the world.
I hope I have been of help please give me more information so I can help you with this.
Sincerely,
Thomas

Would you recommend changing image file names retroactively?
We'll be optimizing file names moving forward, but it hasn't been done in the past. I have probably 1,500 that would need to be changed, so want to make sure it's a valuable use of time/worth the effort. 🙂 Also, has anyone used Media File Renamer for wordpress? Seems this would be a good way to rename files without needing to reupload everything. Thanks!

Google Places UK address has randomly changed to a US address in Texas!
Hello, one of my clients has 2 Google Places listings, both UK addresses. However one of them has randomly changed to a US address in Texas, and it won't let me update the country unless I create a new listing.... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/preview#!q=the+43+club&data=!4m16!1m15!4m8!1m3!1d22152595!2d12.5088275!3d47.73855!3m2!1i1440!2i774!4f13.1!7i10!9m1!6e0!10b1!17b1!25b1!6m1!1e1&fid=1 As you can see the second listing is Texas, but it should be: Tall Trees Cottage, Winkfield Road, Ascot, Berkshire, SL5 7EX. 0208 144 0166 Any help would be great. Thanks

How should I handle a company name change at G+
Hello, I am wondering how you would suggest handling a company name change as it relates to a Google Plus page that is already setup and getting listed. Our company went through a name change this year and we want to update that info on our G+ page. Of importance to us, is that we have several excellent reviews that we don't want to lose. So, is the best way to handle this for us to go in an simply adjust the info on our G+ page or will we have to kill our current page and start over - losing our reviews? I would especially love to hear if you have experience with this scenario or a similar one. Thanks in advance.

Amazon Store Name Change - Impact on Google Shopping
For a site ranking on page 1 in Google Shopping Results for multiple products, they're thinking of changing their store name to rebrand themselves and their website. They currently have items appearing on page 1 from their stores on ebay, Amazon, buy.com, sears, etc. Does anybody know if changing their brand name on these stores will impact their results on Google Shopping? Thanks, Mark

Page speed not good despite CDN and caching. Can this be fixed?
My page speed results are here, showing a speed of 40 seconds. I get an F for compress text, compress images and cache static content. How do I resolve this? Also.. I've set up a CDN. Is it a problem for SEO, that there is a copy of all my images and content at cdn.mysite.com? We get lots of search traffic through google images search.

Google Places Name Change - Duplicate Listings.
Need input on a Google Places change to avoid duplicate listing/phone number issue for a name change. Here is a summary: Company A has a Places listing and ranks week for key local terms. Company A has become a franchise and has a completely new name but same address. A New Franchise listing was created. It has same location but a different telephone (tracking) number. Both listings generally appear in Google Places but Company A (older listing) come up first. For branding purposes I would ideally like to eliminate (or edit) Company A listing and optimize new Franchise listing. We will need to eliminate the tracking phone number and add the old “Company A” phone number to the new Franchise listing. What is the best procedure to delete the Company A listing? I have access to both listings. Do I: -Strip Company A listing of most info…wait and then delete? Do I delete from my account or delete in total? -Just change the name of the “old” Company name to the new franchise name and delete the new franchise listing? An if so, in what order? -or do I just delete the old listing right away and edit the new franchise listing right away? -When do I add the old (and real phone number) to the new franchise listing? This same scenario has played out in other locations with disastrous results. Appears that Google looks at them as duplicate listings if the old Company name is still active and demotes both listings. Trying to avoid that problem that has been created by other companies. -Would adding Google Boost to the surviving listing help? Any input appreciated.

Name Change in Google Places
In the middle of a nightmare in Google Places. Dealing with a number of Chiropractic franchises. They all had previous practices (and Places listings). In many cases, a duplicate listing was created. Some locations are "under review", others have lost their ranking and a few are ranking for both location in the 7 pack.(usually because they had a different phone number used so I assume Google sees it as a separate company despite the same location) I am trying to fix all these duplicate or near duplicate listings that were created previously. In one case I edited the existing listing and tried to verify by phone. I got the 5 digit code but Google then said code is not valid. Has anyone been through a similar situation? Should I delete/deactivate old listing and Then optimize the remaining or vice versa? A complete mess. In some cases they may have four listings...old company, new franchise and new name, Doctors names. Any insight appreciated.
