E-Commerce keyword question

We sell ItemA. One of the phrases that brings people to our site is "ItemA for sale". Should I just try to target "ItemA" or should I try to get "for sale" in there? I have seen a few other variations such as "on clearance" or "to purchase" as well. Can I just focus on "ItemA" or do I need all of those variants as well?

Do you mean URL wise, or content wise?
Google isn't going to penalize you for offering a relevant page to your customers. Just don't overdo it with your content. i.e. don't do this:
Company X has tons of Widgets for sale! In fact, we have the best price on our widgets for sale, and will beat any other company with widgets for sale!
For example, if you are a Jaguar car dealership you are going to have to reiterate that you are actually selling Jaguars, and not just talking about them. So, you will need to additional contextual clues of phrases like "for sale" and "to purchase." Otherwise you might just appear as an informational site, and not an e-commerce site.

Going after the head term and you can always use some onsite and link building to rank for the other longer tail terms. Also try leveraging user reviews if possible (and indexable). Why not see if you can get people to leave reviews on how your prices are so good its like always buying on sale compared to competitors. Get people to link to this page and I would not be surprised if you can get it to rank for your other targeted phrases

I don't think either of those are really the best examples - Amazon ranks well for several factors that don't have to do with keywords and Ebay is too "owned" by people posting content vs. the site manager managing it.
Retail sites like Kohl's do this (ex: womens>womens dresses>womens maxi dresses) and same with bestbuy.com, and REI.

Do you have any examples of any sort of e-commerce site? As an e-commerce site, they know they item is for sale so I don't see any added benefit to the customer, it feels like something google could catch on to.

Do either of you have an example of a site that does this? I looked at both Amazon and Ebay and didn't see them doing anything like this.

I agree with Zora that by targeting the long tail you'll also optimize for the short tail. To go further with targeting them all individually, that would depend on the competition, and the amount of variation of the keyword phrases. Use the tools here on SEOMoz to find out the competitive level for those variants. If it's pretty low, then one page would probably do, but if it's a tough search you would be better off creating more focused pages.
As for actually implementing a single page vs multiple pages, that would depend on context. I would put "for sale," and "to purchase" on the same field, but clearance, to me at least, would be different. If I were a consumer looking for a clearance product, I wouldn't want to land on just a regular page talking about buying the product. I would want the page to match my search.
-
I'd target both; short tail words can be harder to rank higher for, and the long tail can help sooner since they are often less competitive.
-
These are called long tail keywords. If you focus on "ItemA for sale" you'll benefit from essentially 2 keywords for the price of one, and to some extent, also other long tail keywords since "ItemA" is in there.
As to targeting them all individually - it's all about your commitment and how much time you want to spend.

Can you ever compete with product keywords?
I am doing keyword research for a dental blog and wanted to get the forum's opinion about these SERP results: https://moz.com/explorer/keyword/serp-analysis?q=electric+toothbrushWondering if the Google algorithm will always favor something like Amazon since someone searching "electric toothbrush" probably doesn't want info -- they probably want to buy...right?

Targeted keywords for landing pages but keyword has a lot of synonyms, how is the best way to approach this?
I'm trying to target one page for one broad 2 word keyword, however, because our niche revolves around this keyword and it's synonyms, the keyword is used on every other page, thus creating the issue of non-targeted pages taking the rank instead of targeted page. I've thought of using synonyms on each page, so that no one page uses the same keyword, but felt this could be seen as spammy or could just hurt overall relevancy towards the main keyword, thus a loss of rank. I understand page authority also plays a part, but also seems that every page other than the page I want get's targeted.

Are Keywords treated as Case Sensitive?
We found that keywords are not case sensitive, but MOZ show same keyword in different case under "Top National Keywords" tab. Eg: 1) Wobble Wedge 2) wobble wedge

Wrong page ranking for keyword.
I have a page i'm trying to rank for certain keywords around "emergency vet clinic" the page is domain.com/emergency-vet-care but my home page is the one that is ranking better and better. How can I get the other page to rank for e.g. "emergency vet care" , "emergency animal care" and the main page to rank for just regular vet care? My on page looks pretty good. I've also taken out most references to emergency care on the main home page except for the one link to it. Thanks

Google Keyword Research Tool - Monthly Totals for Similar Keywords?
Hi! I am doing some Google keyword research using the Google Adwords Keyword tool to decide what content to create for the masses. That is, to find opportunities to create content that is in-demand where the current offering is not satisfying the need effectively. Here are some keywords I picked out. I hope to produce a single piece of content optimized for some or all of these keywords. (See attached imgur link) The first thing I notice when doing this kind of work is that many similar-sounding keywords are showing the same sum of average monthly totals. This suggests to me that they may not actually be unique. For instance, the first two searches "guitar strings order" and "guitar string notes" each have ~5400 monthly searches. Does that mean 5400 each, or 5400 total between the two? So does anybody know if these are individual numbers or part of a bigger total? And if they are part of a bigger total, how could I estimate the average searches for a piece of content that targets all 8 keywords? If I tally all of the searches, I have over 23,000 potential searches per month. But if some of them are being counted more than once, so to speak, then the number could be much lower. ghmFYOZ

How can I do to improve ranking for head keywords?
Hi guys, I'm currently working for an italian restautant finder web site http://www.cibando.com The site currently do not rank for any of the cityName pages eventhough all this pages received a B grade in the on-page report card by Seo Moz and have a great amount of internal links. This is an example of the pages I'm speaking about: http://www.cibando.com/ita/ristoranti/milano/milano As I can changeso little on this page, I'm thinking about creatinng a new cityName page having this URL http://www.cibando.com/ita/ristoranti-milano in which I add some text about the city and the restaurants people can have dinner at and add some link to the currently cityName page and categoryCuisine page. Is it a good idea? Do oyu have any suggestions? Any expert out there give an insight? Thanks in advance. Francesca

Question about keyword
I had read a post in SEOmoz about keywords. According to it, The best keywords are 1. High Volume (many searches/month) 2. Low Competition 3. High Value (large % of visitors convert) My question is how can i find about 2nd and 3rd point. High search volume is shown in many Tools including Google adwords, but how can we be sure to find keywords that are low in competition and at the same time high value.

How do I figure out which keyword to optimize for?
What's up guys! We run a site for tennis players and courts in the whole country - http://www.tennisround.com/. People use the site to find a tennis partner at their skill level and send each other invites to set up matches, it's also used to find local tennis courts. The question is - Which keyword(s) should we optimize the site for and how? Cheers, Alex 7h1HKYL_jJ0 sYaQH 7h1HKYL_jJ0 sYaQH 7h1HKYL_jJ0
