Footer and SEO
-
Hi All...
We have a client who wants to really minimize and simply their website. They want to remove some of the footer info. Obviously we do not want to remove any contact or address but they would like to remove the footer menu system.
I have read various things about it NOT effecting SEO and that it is there for user navigation and usability.
Thoughts? Opinions?

Great...thanks Sean for the response. Just what I was looking for.

Thanks for the response. This is the exact answer I was looking for. It's not the main navigation system, so I think we are good to get rid of it.

Unless the footer links to something that is not included elsewhere, I would not worry about the SEO value. I would though look at a heatmap of this site and see if people are using the footer at all over any other navigational areas on the site. This way you do not hurt the usability of the site.

Hi Zach,
If you're footer menu is redundant and other menus (like top menu or sidebar) link to all your pages in a logical manner, then it should be no problem at all. However if only the footer contains important links (e.g. the link to the blog of the website) then the footer is important. But of course, you can integrate these important links into other menus as well.
I don't think that google valuates sites with a big footer better than a site without a footer. In fact people often misuse the footer to fill it with "important" information. Unfortunately, you often have a problem with duplicate content then. If you're client has valuable information in the footer, then integrate it into the appropriate pages.
Hope this helps.

301 or Keep 2 Chocolate Best Sellers SEO?
Hi All, So we have two best selling organic chocolates that are very similar. http://www.santabarbarachocolate.com/bulk-organic-dark-chocolate-72-without-soy-lecithin/ and http://www.santabarbarachocolate.com/bulk-organic-dark-chocolate-72-without-soy-lecithin/ Because we are a small company it would be ideal to offer only one of these chocolates due to the cost of making it from the raw cacao. This is the question: From a SEO page rank perspective, do we get better rank by 301 redirecting one chocolate to the other thereby generating more traffic through traffic consolidation to one chocolate. Or do we get better SEO rank by having two chocolates on the site that both get clicks with different content? Basically it is a question of divided forces. Thanks for your help, Jason

Is there some reputed company/person which can fix the SEO issues for me?
One of my websites http://forum32.com/ was ruling the roost shortly after it launched. We cover BTS (behind the scenes) etc of the TV shows that my production company makes. But then it all went downhill. I do understand that my readership fluctuates with the number of shows I am doing and therefore covering but for a show like "Qubool Hai" which has been running for the past 3 years and we do almost two posts about it - we rank nowhere. Could posting about this "too much" be a problem? Anyway I have been breaking my head over this for the past six months and spent a lot of time trying to set this right but: 1. I am running out of time as I am about to start directing another show. 2. I am not even sure if what I am doing is right! Can any person/company Which is well trusted help me out of this situation? Using Google structured Data for SEO benefit
Hi there I run www.isacleanse.com.au and I've set up some Structured data using Google Webmaster Tools which says it will be picked up during the next Google update (has been set up over 4 weeks ago), however I dont seem to see any of the structured data for the products/reviews/ratings etc coming through in search results. Question at hand: Is there additional things I need to do in the code of the website or should this be sufficient? (see attached screenshot) szpFUpX

Page Title in Local SEO Title Tags?
Hi All, Still working on my title tag usage for local SEO, and I was hoping for some more feedback. My question is this: In Local SEO titles, I'm using location + keyword combinations, unique on each page. However, since each page has a specific title for the client, I figure I should be placing that at the front. My thought here was that this helps with the overall usability to the reader of the website. Ex. Contact Us page for Pizza shop Contact Us | Springfield IN Gourmet Pizza | Moe's Italian Pizza Anyone have thoughts on this one? Thank you!

Give me your SEO Review
Hi Mozzers, I've been working on redesigning and revamping this site, http://www.canvaspaintings.com. Their domain and keyword are a match but not ranking #1. Some initial things I feel that needs to be changed are the links on the side and top bar, viewing the on page report, it does have a lot of links on every page. Trying to figure out how to remove them without having the top nav look empty. Previous category descriptions were written by possibly an article spinner or keyword stuffed writer. Need to start building more links, although PR5, it doesn't rank too well. Let me know your opinions and thoughts, I would love to hear them out. TMI!

Best Layout for Product Page SEO
Hi I am looking to revamp my website and would like to know your views on the best product layout for SEO - in particular if it better to have tabulated content like play.com http://goo.gl/4xdqp or non tabulated content like Amazon. http://goo.gl/cojKj Are there any pros or cons to each approach? I believe tabulated looks better and is easier to navigate but do the engines see this as hidden text? I have been told this is an issue with expandable divs. Many thanks David

Maximum length of a URL for good SEO?
Hi there, We have a content database as part of our site and I noticed that the way the database is loaded with new content, it means that the URL’s for these pages are really long, around 100 characters or sometimes more http://www.xxxyy.org/knowledge-base/documents/word1-word2-word3-word4-word5-word6-word7-word8 Is there a suggted maximum character length for a URL? Kind of like for title tag where I max out at 69… Should I truncate the URL’s or at least reduce the numbers of words in them to something less spammy? Does that make a difference? Thanks!
