New world order
-
Hello all
I see many talk about it but still I feel that the conversation is full of alogans and cliches are flying around, so here goes. In the not too far distant past I could get sites climbing and getting more traffic just by gettinhg simple links from sites. do that on a monthly basis, and see results. Now it is better for end users and tougher for us SEO guys. we need quality content and strategic postings. I like the new way and the higher quality it brings. As many of you probably expieienced getting clients actively engaged is really hard and most times clients are too busy. We need the involvement to succeed, we need quality content and valid places to post (mostly blogs). My questions are
- most budgets are not adjusted by clients and as such it creates a problem getting qualuty content. How do you still stay profitable? How did you adjust? Do you feel that much more actuale work on clients' project is needed and as such profits are declining.
How di you reacts?
what are the adjustment you made
Thanks Guy C

I completely agree with EGOL on this one. I always let my clients deliver me the content for the website. I use the following argument for this:
My expertise is SEO, yours is X. If you would have to write about SEO you would also not know where to start, I do. If I have to write about X i would have to do lots of research on the topic and still would not always be correct. You know a lot more about X. So if you can deliver me the content I can do what you hired me to do.
My experience is that this works really well. Let them know that everything about their product of service that they feel is logical is not necessarily logical to others. So you could write content for them, but it will be low quality that no one will link to or share on Social Media so their is no point of creating low quality content.
my 2 cents
Regards
Jarno

For the last eight years I have not accepted clients - I only work on my own sites. Before that I used to accept clients but was really picky about who I would help. Lots of people asked me to build a website or get their existing website up in the rankings.
I showed them how to do a little keyword research and we determined some of the important keywords that they would want to rank for. Then we discussed what type of content would be needed to create a great landing page experience for those keywords.
Then I said... I'll help you with your website when you bring me that content. Most of them left and never came back. But some of them did. The ones who did were successful then, and today - many years later - all of them are still running their sites and producing their content. They depend on others to do much of the technical work for their websites... but they are still making new, original, high-quality content for every additional page that they add to their website.
So, if you are wasting time because clients can't come up with content then start telling them right from the first meeting that content creation is going to be their job. Explain why it should be their job and why they should not want anyone else doing it for them.
They really don't want you or some absolute noob who knows nothing about hydraulic jacks or spectropotometers, Irish fiddles or knitting supplies writing their content for them. They really don't.

thanks for answering and being active on other forums as well.
i do agree and like the fact that hard working & high quality content are winning and actually I am happy with this change. I see the benefits and actually starting to enjoy them. My question actually comes from a business perspective. What to do when budget and effort is not allocated. The only course for action that works for me is actually to buy quality content for my clients and bite my margins.
I wish all clients and potential clients will join this effort in understanding that achieving their online goals requires this however this is not yet the case. so the Dilemma stays cut margins or lose business. really speeches and coaching aside this hurts my business.
again I like the change and trying to see how others adjusted. -
Before your "new world order" arrived, quality sites with lots of content were earning their SERPs. They earned their SERPs while lots of SEOed sites were pushing thin content to the top with paid links, forum posts and cheap directories.
The content sites took the long, expensive route. They went to their office and worked on content. Every day they asked... "what can we produce that our visitors will like?". Then they delivered. They were not complaining. They were simply working on their passions.
They only worked on one or two or maybe three sites. They worked on those same sites every day, every day for years and years. They communicated with their visitors. They become experts in their content area. From that they learned about their visitors, learned what they consumed and used that knowledge to deliver value.
The question that you are asking is.... "How can I beat these fanatics who know their content and know their sites and know their traffic and know their niche?"
I think that you understand that "content" is the part of your service that is missing... as well as an understanding of the customer.
So, if you can convince clients that they will be responsible for content and show them who in their industry has the content that they will have to beat to succeed. Then you can do the technical work of their website. Do the analytics work needed to help them understand their visitors and teach them how to target their content creation to achive the goals of their business. You might also add conversion rate optimization.
Some companies already offer this type of service although much of it is done by an in-house team who works closely with many other people involved in the business.

Use 301'd Domain for a new campaign
Hello everybody, My company is getting ready to start a new mediacampaign on a very specific subject. The mediacampaign is not directly targeted at our core business, the goal is more to inform our customers about a subject and do a little branding for our company. A nice (and expensive) infographic was built that is going to be the core content of the campaign. We want the infographic to get shared a lot and therefore some of my colleagues want the url to be as short as possible. The idea is to host the infographic on a url on our companysite, but use a 301'd, shorter domainname in our communications. We are going to be getting a lot of links to this empty 301'd domain which does nothing else then 301 to our companysite. I know that linkbuilding to a 301'd domain is an old blackhat tactic, that's the main reason I don't feel good about this. But i can't really find any info on this subject.

Backlinks Redirected Temporarily (New to Old)
I have a website of which we are being forced to change the domain name and soon after give the control of the domain name to the corporate office. The corporate office will eventually put a new website up on it. We would like to build more backlinks without the threat of losing all of these backlinks to the corporate site. We were considering to start building backlinks to the new domain with temporary redirects to the old domain but have recently been advised against doing this (threat of Google looking down on this technique). Should we continue to build back links to the old domain, or should we 302 redirect the links to the old domain? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

New website, small business, niche market --- what's my best link building strategy?
Hi everyone, We are a small company manufacturing a niche product (indoor playground equipment), our new English website (www.funlandiaplaygrounds.com) has just been launched 2 months ago, before that we didn't even have a website in English. As the international sales manager of such a small company, I have to do all the international marketing jobs including SEO, but before this I'm almost a noob on SEO. I've just started the linking building work for our website, after a research on the links of our highest ranked competitors, I have found out that almost ALL of the external links of them come from directories and purchased links, many links are very dubious, please see the open explorer results below: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?page=1&site=www.spiplay.co.uk&sort=page_authority&filter=&source=&target=page&group=1 http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.softplay.com%2F http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links.html?page=1&site=www.china-cheer.com&sort=page_authority&filter=&source=&target=page&group=1 http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aileplay.com%2F http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=internationalplayco.com%2F The search keywords is: indoor playground equipment. According to the latest SEO theory and numerous posts I've read here, links from these directories carry very low value, and solely relying on these links may even cause penalty to the website, but the reality is, all these competitors rank on the top as a result of these "spammy" links. For example this website www.aileplay.com that has the highest PA of 64 and rank on the first page on the search result of indoor playground equipment, has tons of spammy links. That is the situation we are facing now, then my questions is: As a small business in such a niche market, what is our best strategy to rank well in a reasonable time, say 3 months to 6 months? I do not think our competitors are very strong and hard to beat, I believe we will beat them in content creation for sure, but what should we do in link building? should we start to get directory links now, as it obviously works for them? Or should we first create more attractive content, then use these content to get natural links BEFORE we submit for directory, as recommended by most link experts here? If so should we just sit back doing nothing before the link worthy content is created and natural links starts to come in? I highly appreciate any comments! DSG_clan

Get a new domain?
Hey, I have a niche website which ranked quite good in the beginning (especially image search). I published new posts every other day and also new links. Since around six months this site doesnt rank at all anymore (page 5) and I'm not sure if I should get a new domain, republish the articles and 301 all links. Would that make sense or is it better to start a new site from scratch? Thanks!

What are some good easy links to get for new sites?
We are in the process of launching a couple of new sites and while we know it will be a long process to get them to rank, achieving some long-tail keywords would be beneficial. What sites would you recommend for getting some easy links to start with that can help the indexation and ranking process along in the preliminary stages? Or another way to put the question - when you launch a new site, what steps do you go through?

Link building and directory links to a new site
I have three new sites all hosted on the same server in the same public html folder and each site is in a different folder inside the public html folder. These sites are a listing of live music venues in different cities in Texas. Should I link these sites together to increase page rank to each other and also put key search phrases in the anchor text and place these links in the text in the center of each page of each site to make the links more effective? Also, because the sites are about a year old they don't have many inlinks yet. If i submit them to about 50 directories will Google not like this because there are way more directory links than natural links? I've been told that it is trouble to have more than about 50% directory links compared to natural links. Thanks in advance for your answers! Take care,
