Optimal Alt Description Size
-
What is an optimal size for a description of an image without being penalized.
In the past, I would put whole paragraphs in the alt and title tags. These were well structured sentences to avoid the "keyword stuffing." Just wondering whether any research has been done on this element.

Hi,
I usually use full sentences including a keyword. Have tons of searches for these elements. It is a long tail but it increases site traffic.
In my opinion optimal size is like in the meta - title ... no more than 70 characters.

I haven't seen anything about an optimal alt description size, however I always aim to bear in mind that the true purpose of these is to provide assistance to those who can't see the images. I always ensure that my target page keyword is in there to tick the SEO box but endeavour to make it useful for those who need it from a human perspective.

Duplicate Descriptions
Hi, Our Woo Commerce store has about 30 product tags, of which a separate page is created for each, therefore needing the usual titles and descriptions adding. I want to know if the pages will be penalised if I 90% duplicate the 150 word description for product tags that have areas of overlap. How important is this? Thanks.

About Page - optimization keywords ideas
I am interested to know your thoughts on which keywords to target for your about page. While most keyword strategies are about creating or optimizing pages on categories. This is great for product/service page ideas, but I never know what my about page should come up for. Should it just be your name or can you utilize this page to capture some categories or keywords that are difficult to rank for; I.e We rank well for "web design [location]" not so well for "[location] web design" Regards Rod

Product descriptions, when do they become classed as duplicate content, how different do they have to be?
I look after 3 sites which have a lot of crossover on products. We have 1000s of products and I've made it a requirement that we give each it's on description on each of the sites. This sounds like the right thing to but it's very hard for our content writers to write three different versions descriptions, especially when we have variations on the products so potentially writing unique product descriptions for 4-5 very similar products on three separate sites. We've worked very hard to create unique content deep through the site on all categories, subcategories and tag combinations and along with the other SEO work we've done over the last couple of years is producing great results. My question is now far do we have to go? I'm busy writing some product descriptions for a 3rd party site for some of our products, the easy thing to do is just copy and paste but I want Google to see the descriptions as unique. Whilst all SEO advice will say 'write unique descriptions' from a practical point of view this isn't especially useful as there doesn't really seem to be much guidance on how different they need to be. I gather we can't just move around the paragraphs or jumble up sentences a bit but it is easier to work from a description and change it than it is to start from a blank slate (our products range form being very interesting and unique, to quite everyday so sometimes tough to create varied unique content for). Does anyone know of any guidance or evidence of just how clever the Google algorithm is and how close content has to be before it becomes classed as the same or similar? Thanks Pete

Using Product Descriptions in Meta Description
Hi All We have over 10000 Products and a while ago we spent some time adding Product Descriptions to the Product Pages, For Example we have Product - Black Snazaroo Face Paint Product Description - Great for Childrens parties, fundraising events, Halloween or other festive faces. An easy makeup to apply and remove. All Snazaroo face paints are Non toxic, Fragrance free and Skin friendly. Snazaroo is suitable for all skin types, however it is always recommended you do a skin patch test on a small area before full application. Unfortuantly our Meta Descriptions really need some work, for example this same page contains the following meta descriptions We realise this could be holding our site back. Is it ok to use the same Product Description inside the Meta Description Tags also, for example can we use the Meta Description for this Page - Thanks
