I am the only one at my company responsible for SEO

This includes onpage, blogging, social media, link building, content creation, reporting, etc Etc ETC!!! The company I work for has about 100 employess and we are an eCommerce company. I have recently taken over all the SEO duties, as the person before me left. In the past we relied heavily on link building but that seems to be losing steam with Panda and Penguin. Is it even possible in this day in age for one person to keep a company afloat in the competitve SEO world? If so, what should I devote most my time to?

How do you feel about guest bloggin? Our site has a blog but all blog entries are written by me. It can be difficult to find something new to write about ont he same topic everyday. Also it takes an hour or two to write worthy content. Just spewing something out to get new content is not worth it. I want to allow guest blogging. This will create more time for me to focus onother SEO tasks and broader blog topics. The carrot for guest blogging would be a link to the guest bloggers site. However, it is believed by the powers that be at the company that we never want any outbound links. Once we have them on our site we want them to stay here.

What is the easiest most efficient way to transfer from relying soley on backlinks to a content strategy? I don't want to completely kill off the backlinking we do now because I don't want to take a risk of a serious SEO drop. Although, we need to do it quickly as we have been hit by Penguin and Panda.

Yes and no EGOL. Their sales tanked, but they still rank really well for some terms for which we are competing against them. I think it's only a matter of time.

I like this.... it means go to the boss and get a mandate to delegate parts of the SEO job to people in related positions.
Honest... It means that you have to train the people who do product descriptions to write the title tags, train the IT folks to keep the site running right, train the sales people to get customers linking back, train the buyers to get suppliers linking back... you got the idea?
Get customer relations to write content, marketing people to write content, product experts to write content, get the CEO to write regular blog posts, find customers who love you who will allow you use their letters.

The short answer is, yes, you can do it. It's not easy, but it can be done. I was once the lone SEO for a company of about 100 and I left. They were relying heavily on link-building (via blog networks) and I fundamentally disagreed with their approach (the basically set up fake blog networks all over the place and piled them high with links and over-optimized anchor text.
I am now the lone-SEO at one of their competitors and encouraged to engage in white hat SEO. If you are on your own, the best place for you to keep up with the ever-changing world of SEO is right here at SEOMoz and I'd also follow the guys at Distilled, Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Land, the good folks at Search Engine Journal and if at all possible, attend MozCon in Seattle this summer. It will be worth every penny your company spends to send you.
Good luck Jean-Pierre. Just remember to prioritize stuff. Know what's going to have the biggest impact on your company's business goals and go after that and be able to prove your results. Then hang out here when you get stuck or just need a pat on the back

It will be very difficult for one person to serve all of your company's SEO needs.
However, if you are going to tackle this alone, I would try to leverage as many resources internally as possible. I would make sure you are allowed to stay in constant communication with all departments, especially marketing and website development. Also, I would make sure that they are aware that you need to be in the loop to what their departments are doing.
If you website is up to speed with most of the on-page criteria, I would focus my efforts on link building and content creation. The marketing department will have some great assets and resources that you can use to build great links. Also, if y'all work together, you may get them to understand how press and events are great link building tools, which will help your efforts.
I would also make sure that you are involved in all changes/update to the website to make sure all things are done with search engines in mind.

Does Google give more ranking weight for Shares for One Social Network over Another.
We are using BuzzSumo to explore the types of content that generate the highest number of shares per article. Does anyone have data to suggest that a share on Google+ carries more ranking weight than a share on Twitter or Facebook, or LinkedIn? We have seen a recent case with one of our client's competitors where they significantly grew their Google+ shares within a relatively short period of time and gained a higher rank for a key search phrase that my client is also targeting. Hello, For the site nlpca.com How would you get them to the #2 spot for "NLP" and the #2 spot for "NLP Training" They won't do link building due to reputation in the industry. They're open to Google+ and the +1 button. They are willing to add stellar targeted authoritative content. They're adding a blog and comprehensive "What is NLP?" article. 4 Weeks In - Need to Develop my SEO Strategy
Hello All, 1st post \ interaction on Moz! I'm now half way through my 4th week in an 'Online Marketing' role for an established travel operator \ agent in the UK and I now want to really start working on my SEO (and linkbuilding) strategy. I'm using Moz for most things and I have highlighted (via crawl diagnostics) lots of warnings & errors (15,000 pages crawled, 12,000 errors and 26,000 warnings!) which I will be addressing with the web design company next week... We engage (but not as much as we should) in Social Media and I have an excellent content writer who can write unique, interesting and informative content about our niche - which is quite large! I am obviously keen to focus my SEO efforts on the content and I have created accounts on Web 2.0 (Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger etc), Social Bookmarking (Stumbleupon, Digg, Reddit etc) and I have started to engage with other webmasters within the industry in the hope I can submit one or two 'guest posts. Adding to that we have an excellent blog that 'sits off' our site and already has some great content on! I am also looking at other content ideas such as; lists, infographics, quizzes, surveys etc So my question is; do I continue with the 'content strategy' and if so, should i continue with the platforms I am currently using (as above)? I don't think that I'm a million miles away but any advice would be greatly appreciated! Andy

Hi Mozzers, Do shortened URLs, such as bitly and owly help out my website in terms of SEO? I know they will help in terms of referral traffic from people clicking on the URLs, but how about increasing DA, PA, etc.? Thanks!

Blogger vs wordpress from SEO perspective
Blogger is under the google umbrella and of course will be in line with google's strategic moves in the future.That includes commenting with google plus accounts and any future integrations. (google plus will HUGE in the future when it comes to SEO)currently there is no way to host blogger on your own servers, which means all your images and video are not really yours from an SEO perspective. Wordpress however does not have as much technical restrictions, but eventually it will be a major competitor to blogger. You can host it on your own servers as well. So from an SEO perspective which one is better?

G+ places/local - Company Categories and Pages question
I have two questions about google places/local and Personal/Company Pages Regarding Local and the categories section. Should you be using strictly the predefined categories they have? or should you be creating your own? Also say you're a car repair shop for instance. If you should be creating your own such as 'truck repair' should the city be in there as well 'Truck Repair New York/New York Truck Repair(keyword or location first?)' When it comes to company and personal g+ places, i understand doing the rel author and its bennefits but what is the correct way about tagging this? For instance in Wordpress, Studiopress has a section in the profile for the user g+ profile that will rel author it, and Yaost SEO says 'if you have a business page, insert it here and link your personal page as a contributor to the business page' Should we be filling in both sections? or does this cause a conflict? Adding these items is very easy to do, but would rather do it right the first time then circle back and have to correct everything. Any feedback/input is appreciated. Thanks,

SEO For New Website
Hello Mozzers, I've recently (2 weeks ago) launched a website with a brand new domain for a client. I know I can't expect instant results but I'd like to know I've done all I can to get the best results as fast as possible. I've done the following already: It's a WordPress driven website so the site is very SEO friendly Submitted the sitemap.xml to Google Listed the site on Bing Sorted out the canonical issue Got keyword rich URLs Meta tags are in Site structure is heavily optimized with H1, H2 tags, etc. used appropriately Set up a Google Places listing Made sure all images and links are semantically optimized Copy can be improved but is pretty keyword rich However the client is not using Social Media at all and there's no link building strategy in place. Will this undermine the rankings a lot? What else can I do to get the client better results, faster? Any help will be much appreciated. Best regards, Rex (SEO Noob)
