Linkbait
-
Hi mozzers,
I've done a lot of link building for my site targetting high quality links. I'd like to try outsourcing some linkbaiting. Does anyone know of any good places to do this? I've been looking at webuildpages.com
Thanks!

This may be a good place to start: http://www.seomoz.org/article/recommended#link-building

I agree, outsourcing link building is tough. I highly recommend NOT using overseas providers.
If you do use a reputable company (send me a PM I know some), and ask for a detailed strategy on how their will do their link building, why they will employ that strategy, and other important, specific details.
Most people end up with spammy blog comments or directory links...not worth the money.

Creating great linkbait is kind of like being a great investor. If someone knows how to get rich through investments, they are not going to waste their time making other people rich, they are going to invest their own money and make themselves rich. Similarly, the people who can write and create the best linkbait are not typically available to do it cheaply for someone else. Instead, you get stuck with a second string freelancer who ends up doing a bad job for you, more harm than good. Of course, if you hire a superstar and pay them very well, then you might in fact have a great experience.

Hi! We're going through some of the older unanswered questions and seeing if people still have questions or if they've gone ahead and implemented something and have any lessons to share with us. Can you give an update, or mark your question as answered?
Thanks!

In my experience outsourcing any sort of link building (whether it be link baiting or any other type) only works well if you manage the project properly.
If you give good briefs to a company that knows what they're doing (and can demonstrate that with previous examples) then you should be.
If you don't brief well the project will probably fail and have minimal positive effect.
The people I've outsourced to in the past no longer take on new clients, so not much point referring you there.

I can only tell you from my personal experiences, every time I outsourced link building ... it didn't seem worth it. Sometimes it was even a negative impact...

I personally would take your time looking for a company and whoever you do talk to, ask for examples of work they have done in the past. You want to see clear results from other customers of theirs.
Have a read of this as well - some good points and examples in there. Sorry, I haven't used anyone to do viral marketing for me so can't offer any references.
Regards,
Andy

Linkbait Ideas
Hi, I currently am trying to obtain links to build up the authority of my website. I am outsourcing content to be created by professionals as I am not the best when it comes putting together a piece of content worth linking to. My business build and design garden buildings that are used for a number of uses such as garden offices, gyms, therapy rooms, playrooms the list goes on. I have already had a piece of content created called '3 ways a garden office can boost productivity'. We also put a swimming pool in one of our rooms which is quite innovative in our industry, I am going to create a blog post about it. I have identified garden design, gardening & home improvement as relevant topics and this is who I will be targeting to link to my contact. In this case I have identified a home improvement blog I would like to obtain a link from 'http://www.ukhomeimprovement.co.uk/'. The question is how do obtain this link? What is the best way to approach them? Kind Regards, Tom p.s. my website is www.ecobode.co.uk

"Noindex" the Landingpage of a Linkbait or not?
Hey SeoMozzers, I'm wondering if it is recommendable to use the meta-tag "noindex" for the landingpage of a linkbait, or not. Do you have any considerations, experiences, opinions regarding that question? Thank you and best regards!

What's a really good example of a linkbait-y Category / Subcategory hierarchy?
Rand makes a really great point in this 2009 post about the shape of crawl paths: "#4. Craft navigation / category pages that are worthy of links. If you can make these pages worthy of links and attention, you drive PageRank and crawl priority further down your site's architecture into the content (and signal the engine that ALL your pages are important." Which makes sense, intuitively, because you'd like link juice to flow directly and undiluted to your money pages. "Here's all my Green Widgets, Roger: they're all right here. While you're at it, here's a related blog post—'5 Ridiculously Awesome Things Every Green Widget Buyer Should Know'—and, oh look! Would you like to see my Blue Widgets as well?" In practice, though, the Home » Widgets » Green Widgets doesn't sound all that alluring. Useful, absolutely, for UX, but not for getting links. Anyone have some favorite examples of Category / Subcategory hierarchies that do well as link-bait? Client is a marketing agency dealing in the technical arcana of databases and ad serving, so their money pages won't be as specific as a Green Widget or a Miami Hotel. Their site isn't huge, and the pages will be extensively interlinked, so the emphasis has more to do with link juice / page authority than indexation. But I'm wondering if it could it be smart to replace a generic "Services" category with a KW-rich drop-down menu of "Marketing Solutions" (i.e. 'Increase Customer Retention') and link each landing page to a relevant charcuterie of services, white papers, webinars, case studies, etc., rather than keeping these pages in their respective silos—even as they link horizontally to related services?

Any ideas for linkbait?
Hi, I'm working on an account where we are optimizing SEO, SEA and Conversion. The business is a very local car rental company that competes with Hertz, Europcar, ... I already posted a question about it here http://www.seomoz.org/q/very-fluctuating-rankings The lack of time made it almost impossible for this business to start bloggin', but we're about to change that in 2012 and I already came up with some ideas for some articles, but still looking for that big fish that will get those good links. Maybe an infograph, but what data should we cover?

Why did my Linkbait bomb ???
I work at Uncommongoods.com. I ran a big linkbait brainstorming session a few months back. Several ideas came out of the meeting and we just released our first piece of "linkbait" that was conceptualized during the brainstorming session. I think it's safe to say this first piece of linkbait is a big fat failure as it has only received 2 likes and no comments in the past few days. I want to know what I could have done to make this post more compelling so our next post can be better. http://blog.uncommongoods.com/2011/kindest-vs-angriest-cities/ Any thoughts ?

Best way to use a cartoon as linkbait
I have an idea for a cartoon that, once created, is likely to be shared a lot in my niche. I'm currently hiring someone to draw the cartoon. My question, though, is the best way to get SEO benefit out of this. If you had a cartoon that was likely to go viral would you publish it as a blog post on your site? People tend to like sharing things that are on imgur or flickr, but these won't help my seo. (Other than perhaps if I end up getting good PR on a flickr image and then link back to my site.) I'm likely going to just publish this as a blog post on my site, but I thought I'd float this out there for other people to give their input. Have you ever used a cartoon or image for linkbait?

Can Anyone Recommend A Good Company For Linkbait Campaign (via infographic)
Hi, I have a website that I am going completely whitehat with. I am looking for some recommendations on companies who can prepare and execute a proper linkbait campaign. I am specifically thinking about using infogrpahics for the link bait. I would like to work with someone who can come up with the concept, design it and also help promote it. Thanks
