Prioritising certain images in search results
-
I am currently putting together a website for my hobby (collecting cycling jerseys) that I can then use to improve my SEO knowledge.
I have tried to optimize the image names so that when somebody searches for a particular item, the image is shown in Google Images.
For example; if you type in "ADR jersey" in google; it gives the following image;
Whereas I want it to prioritize this one;
The smaller image is used on a "Browse" the collection page whereas the bigger one is just used on the single, specific page.
Can anybody offer any up-to-date advice?
Thanks!
Andy

Many thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I have renamed the file names that appear on the browse page here;
http://cycling-jersey-collection.com/browse-collection/
I have a unique reference for each item (a UUID) so I've used that for the 220px file name.
I have not deleted the original files yet - I'm assuming I should wait until google re-indexes the website?

Hi Andy,
I would simply change the image file name and any alt text on the smaller image as it appears to be a duplicate image from a filename perspective (even though they are in different folders and different sizes). I would imagine Google sees them as duplicate and favours one, in this case the small image.
Hope this helps,
Dan

How can I improve my search results for local pages?
My test for this specific example is http://www.mylocalgaragerepair.com This client is trying to reach out for the local terms such as garage door repair for Temecula and other cities in riverside county. I build the following page. http://www.mylocalgaragerepair.com/temecula-garage-door-repair-temecula-garage-door-service/ What am I doing wrong? Is there some plugin's or other type things that would help my rank locally? If you solve this you've solved one of the main problems I'm having with my business. Any help is greatly appreciated.

CDN image links passing SEO benefit?
We used a CDN to host all of the images on our site, and the paths are such:

http://cdn.onedirection.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/harry-styles-tongue5.jpg Frequently we get a lot of other websites using our images, which we're fine with, but I would like to know if we get any SEO value from these image links? Interestingly they do appear in the "Just Discovered" section of OSE. Cheers, Chris.0 -
How do I improve positioning in Google Images?
Looking around in Webmaster tools today and I noticed we have hundreds of thousands of impressions in Google Images, but a very low CTR. I understand normal SEO, but what about increasing rank in Google Images? It is hard to get links straight to an image, and we already use proper alt tags. Any other ideas?

Does anyone know a browser extension that could show me the position an image has in Image Search?
Hello and thank you for your attention! Does anyone know a browser extension that could show me the image ranking in Google Image SERP - similar to what SEOmoz Tool does for regular search - shows you a number under each result, in the left side. Thank you so much!

Proximity for local intent searches
Based in the UK, I can see clear differences in search results for terms that Google considers have local intent, based on location. I'm interested in the community's experience of how far in distance local intent reaches. Does it depend on the search?, e.g. If I search for restaurant will it have a different local intent radius to a coffee shop etc.

Can you get in trouble/get results by sub-dividing one physical address into suites for local search?
We have a client in our area that offers a multitude of home services -- plumbing, HVAC repair, landscaping, etc. -- out of one physical location. It makes it difficult for them to rank highly for all of their services in local search since many of the competitors that rank highly only offer one of the services that they do. They have come to me asking if they could create a Google place page for each service by making imaginary suites for their main address. So, for example, plumbing would be located at 100 Main Street, Suite A; and HVAC repair would be located at 100 Main St., Suite B; etc.? Seems like this is either a great idea or could get you into some Google trouble. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thanks
