How do you do your video transcriptions on Whiteboard Friday's? Are they done manually or with software?

Hey!
Good question and Mike's answer is partially right. In addition to their awesome turn around for transcriptions, Speechpad is also a great company and we like their values! So we decided to stick with them. Wistia launched their transcription service after we had been using Speechpad for a while, so rather than just jump ship on Speechpad we stuck with them because we think they are cool. We also think Wistia is the coolest ever and have stuck with them and will continue to until the world ends ;).
Also, check this out! http://www.seomoz.org/blog/tips-for-filming-whiteboard-presentations I wrote a blog post about a lot of our processes for WBF. It could be helpful for you in the future.

Hi Dana,
I don't work for SEOmoz (although I wish I did!).
I know SEOmoz uses Wistia for hosting, but it looks like they do their transcriptions through SpeechPad. I am guessing the reasoning behind it is money - Wistia costs $5 per minute to be returned within 24 hours and SpeechPad is only $2.50 per minute with a 24 hour turn-time.
And depending on when Rand and company film, they could potentially get the cost down to $1 per minute with a one week turn-time.
Only speculation on my part
Mike

Hi Mike,
I know you guys use Wistia for the videos. Is there any particular reason you guys have opted not to use their transcription service? I ask because we are transitioning to Wistia, but one thing I don't like is not being able to add our own transcriptions if we want to. Thanks!

SEOmoz uses https://www.speechpad.com/ for Whiteboard Friday transcription.
If you scroll down to the bottom of the transcription text you will see the SpeechPad URL, as well as http://blog.speechpad.com/video-transcription/ for the actual service.
Mike

Video Transcript
Recently, Rand suggested posting a transcript of all videos. We have a video on our homepage and want to post the transcript, but posting it as text on our homepage itself isn't practical. Where do you suggest we post the video transcript in lieu of adding it to our homepage? Thank you! Rick

Looking for Video Production Setup Guide post
Hi Guys, I'm looking for a specific video post I recall watching, i thought it was on moz.com, all about creating a decent set up for video production. It discussed things like lighting setup, sound, hardware on a budget etc. I have searched the moz.com blog video tag archive, as well as the Q&A, but haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Help Analyzing A Youtube Video
This youtube video dominates the top search phrases for my area. The problem is that this JUST happened. It wasn't there last week, and the video has only been uploaded a month. Also, this law firm has not been ranking for anything that I have seen until now. It's all just out-of-nowhere. I saw the WBF about Fresh Content, but there's not a lot of Google News or dates referenced in any of the other results. This video looks like a great outlier to me, but I'm guessing I'm just missing something. Any ideas? I'd love to mimic this success! As always, thanks everyone! Ruben

Why do YOU blog? What's the point!?
From what I can gather blogging serves the following purposes. (Please correct me if I miss an important step) To clarify this is just in reference to a blog on an Internet marketing website so purely from a BUSINESS perspective. Creating fresh, relevant content on a regular basis (around the right keywords) is key for great traffic and rankings Building a following ....... With the intent of turning a % of that following into customers (primarily through affiliate links on your site or consulting of some kind - seo, link building, writing) Establishing yourself as an 'authority' ...... This, coupled with your great rankings and traffic from bullet #1 makes it possible to charge a great deal of money and get it because, hey, you are an authority 🙂 My intention isn't to make light of any of the AMAZING, talented people who spend a great deal of time and energy giving back to this incredible, dynamic industry via their blogs (and deserve to makes gobs of cash!) Did I miss a step? Is this the road to success? Thanks for chiming in! Have a great weekend! Matthew

Is submitting a single piece of video content to a lot of different video sites spam?
In the past I have been told that you can use tools like Tube Mogul to auto submit a single piece of video content to lots of different video sites and that it is not considered spam. After watching Rand's Whiteboard Friday I am more skeptical of this tactic. Here are my list of reasons why doing this would and wouldn't be considered spam. This is not spam because: These video sites are individual sites with an individual user base. This is spam because: Google does not want duplicate content of any kind in the SERPs. I leaning towards spam but have seen this be very effective in the local space. So I'm torn.
