Does Traffic help improve my page rank?
-
I've learned many things to do to improve my page rank over the past several months (thanks, seomoz). Our website, www.farnorthkennel.com, has improved greatly thanks to your help.
Here's my question. I have 13000 fans on FB. If they all read a blog post I put up, does this help my page rank?
Does new visitors hitting up my website make the Google gods smile upon me?
-
Thanks, Paul and Kevin. I understand now.
I've often thought about doing a campaign to find out which of my followers would be willing to give us a link. As I understand it, offering a coupon or something would be a big no-no, so I've been a little unclear on how to do that.
I really like the tools here and the list on www.pointblankseo.com. They've both helped, but we're new and it's slow, yet enjoyable, going.

Sorry, Joshua - I should have been more specific and said Google Search doesn't have any way of measuring the traffic. Google has stated a number of times that it does not use Google Analytics data for search rankings. (In fact it would be against it's own terms of service). In addition, if you think about, it really couldn't work as a reliable ranking signal.
First, only about 60% of websites run Google Analytics - and a huge proportion of the major websites don't as they use other specialised tools like WebTrends or Site Catalyst. Can't really use a signal that wouldn't apply to vast number sites.
In addition, it's trivially easy to "tamper" with your Google Analytics code to make it vastly inflate the numbers it reports. I could literally double or triple your reported GA traffic with about 5 minutes of adjusting the code on your website.
Hope that makes sense?

I think what Paul meant was that the data collected in Analytics is not used for ranking purposes. There are many sites that do not use GA, and it would be unfair to use for that purposes. However, Google offers GA for free and I am sure that there are mining purposes that may affect different Google products.

That confuses me, Paul.
Google measures the traffic from Facebook to my site for me - it's in my Analytics.

Given that Google doesn't really have any way of measuring the traffic to your site from Facebook, (or anywhere other than search/Google+) it's highly unlikely (my opinion - impossible) that traffic volume itself is a ranking factor.
But of course there's rising evidence that social influence correlates to ranking influence, and the more people reading your blog posts, the more likely some of them are to link to it, which is certainly one of the search engines' main ranking signals.
If you've got that many engaged followers, have you considered a mini-campaign to try to get them to link to your posts, Joshua? Especially from their own sites (outside of Facebook)?

I believe pagerank is mostly measured by the number and popularity of inbound links. So by having a high pagerank increases your traffic instead of the other way around.
However, is traffic a component of the Googl Algo? There is some debate on this and the only ones that really knows is Google.

ROS Outbound Social Links vs Connect Page with Social Feed?
A client wants to include social media icons in their footer. Instead of linking to facebook, Google+, etc they would like to link to a page with social feeds from their networks. Are there any SEO implications to doing this?

Improve facebook page interaction
https://www.facebook.com/TheHiddenTriforce I have this page which used to get great feedback and interaction. As we have grown the interaction has dropped. Facebook has implemented their ridiculous policy of not sending content out as they should which is part of the issue. Anyways, I am looking for general feedback as to how I can boost this page's engagement. I am not going to pay to boost my posts to my already existing fans. So please provide other options.

Getting Connections to Follow LinkedIn Company Page
I've just started a freelance contract with a client promoting their content over social media, primarily Twitter and LinkedIn. As I've started to manager their accounts, I noticed they have set up both a personal LinkedIn page under the company name as well as a Company Page. The "personal" account has 330 connections but the Company Page only has 17 followers. Has anyone had success with a good strategy for quickly and effectively promoting the Company Page to the personal connections? I'd like to actually migrate the connections over to the Company Page, which should be the primary focus. Thanks for any help.

Best option for Facebook Page/Usernames?
Hey guys My first post here! currently trialling seomoz and impressed so far 🙂 My question relates to a choice of Facebook page/username for a client whose preference is to refer to their online business name by the domain name, where this business name includes his two most important keywords. So as an example: firstsecondthird.co.uk Now in terms of seo that's fine as search engines factor in keywords in the domain name, and even referring to domain name in website copy does not seem to pose too many issues. However on Facebook I've noticed that if we go with page name of: FirstSecondThird (obsiously we can't add .co.uk - I've used camel case for readability) then when using the facebook search the page does NOT get listed for any of the keywords as it appears it only matches on whole strings. So I'm going to recommend that he changes Faceook page name to First Second Third (with spaces) even though client does not really like this option. Do you guys think that makes sense? Also if I do make that change should I also go with fixed Username of First-Second-Third i.e. with hyphens or stick with one long string i.e. FirstSecondThird, which matches the domain name? Any advice appreciated. PS hope this is under right topic- several others seemed applicable Thanks

Facebook Places & Business Pages - Any way to consolidate
Hello, I've read multiple posts on this, and the new timeline layout rolling out for business pages..but I haven't seen an update to this issue. My company has a retail store and an online store. Because of this, we had to create a places page and a regular business page. When people "check-in" via Facebook, the check-in goes to the places page. But our main marketing efforts and large fan base are at the business page. Facebook used to allow you to combine these. In a perfect world, all would live on one business page. Has anyone heard an update on this feature? Thanks either way.

Are Facebook page updates indexed in Google search?
I seem to remember an update where Google said it was going to include Facebook page updates into Google search, but perhaps that was a deal that fell through? If updates ARE appearing in Gooogle search, how do I troubleshoot a Facebook page where they are not?
