Increasing Unbranded Organic Traffic
-
What do people think is the best way to increase unbranded organic traffic specifically? We have worked on on-page optimisation / keywords / some social media, but there has been no noticeable increase over the last 6 months.
Do you think increasing unbranded traffic is an objective worth pursuing?

You also need to attract/build links to your site. If other sites are covering the same topics as you are and they have higher link authority they will push you down the search results. Also make sure that the topics that you are covering are not super competitive, otherwise you have little chance of showing up on the first page of search results without building sufficient link authority. If you have the Mozbar installed, you can enable the SERP overlay and see if sites ahead of you in the SERPs have greater link authority (PA and DA).

Thank you all - basic stuff I know. All three of your answers put together answer my question so excellent stuff.
It's interesting that even when I've moved onto more complicated SEO concepts a simple issue coming out of the blue is the one that throws me. Maybe this shows that sometimes it's best to keep things simple?

Publish new content.
Every page that you publish for a new keyword opens a new traffic channel.
If you publish regularly and your content is good allow people to subscribe to your feed. If you can attract a following then every time you publish new content thousands of people will show up the first day to consume it, some of them will tweet and share, and some of those will also subscribe.
Content publishing is like rolling snowballs down a hill, they get bigger as the travel.

Well yes of course it's worth pursuing it is what SEO is all about, is it not? It is essentially the method with which you introduce new visitors to your brand and familiarize them with your product or service.
Your question isn't as simple as you are making it out to be here, unfortunately. But if you want a simple answer, I'll give you an acronym: SEO. Determine the keywords you want to rank for organically that would be relevant and bring people to your site that would actually be interested in what you offer. Target those keywords, build links, build content, deliver. If this doesn't really make sense I would suggest reading up some more on beginner's SEO and just get a basic understanding of the trade, but essentially you need to rank better for keywords that:
a) people are searching for and
b) are relevant to your site.(Hint: to do keyword research, check out your Google Webmaster Tools!)
Hope this gives you a good starting point and be sure to stick around this community; there is a vast wealth of information here and if you stick around and read a lot of threads, blogs, and watch some webinars you will find yourself becoming and SEOxpert. Yup. I just made that term up.
SEOxpert FTW!

Unbranded organic traffic is the name of the game!
Personally I do not even waste time on trying to obtain BRANDED organic traffic, that all comes on its own. The only time I try and affect our branded search results is if I am trying to push down a negative review or some unflattering page.

Traffic from YouTube
Hi I've suggested a client add annotated links to the end of their YT vids to help get traffic from YT My clients video guy has suggested setting up a hidden redirect page so we can tell how many people come to the website from youtube I take it this is not necessary since traffic from YT will be easily identified by Google analytics anyway ? Cheers Dan

How to get most out of viral blog traffic?
Our website has a WordPress blog, hosted at website.com/blog. I've discovered that with some hard work and a bit of luck, I can create a blog posts that will go viral - they will get about 50k readers in 1-3 days (which is a LOT for our website), and 300-1000 tweets, 100-250 Facebook shares, and anywhere from 10 to 130~ G+1s. (Unfortunately, these are for the posts, not for our website.) The posts will also get some comments. And most importantly, a few links - sometimes from very reputable domains. However, I feel that I could be doing much more here. The links go directly to the blog post, and I'm not sure how much is that helping our website overall in regards to SEO. What actions can I encourage the readers to do, and how should I prioritize them? Some of the actions are: Sharing/liking, writing a comment, checking out our products, subscribing to our Facebook/Twitter/G+ profile, subscribing to our RSS. One another possible action/opportunity that I see and which could potentially pay off is to offer some kind of PDF report to be emailed, which would initiate an autoresponder sequence. Do you think that having a clear call to action in a blog post could reduce the sharing of it ? Is it possible to encourage whoever is writing about our blog posts to use a direct link to our website, instead of linking directly to the post? If yes, how? E.g. if I included a direct link to our website in the post itself, e.g. in the most important part of the post that gets quoted, it could work - unfortunately that's usually virtually impossible. Am I sitting on a gold mine here, and should do this as much as possible? Should I consider putting this content not just onto the blog, but on our website.com/something ? I'm actually not sure how that would help though, it would simply have a shorter URL. I've discovered that it doesn't matter where I post this content, if the presentation looks decent. So it doesn't have to be posted on website.com/blog. I can even post it on other domains - should I? And the most important question: How do I get the most out of this opportunity in SEO regards? Thanks for any ideas or insights!

Social Media valuable for organic rankings?
Is there a link between ranking higher in organic search rankings and having a good social media presence. I think there is, the more likes and followers you have the better. The real question is how to you utilise it, do you regulary share content, put keywords in the share info for the ones you want to rank, how best can you utilise social media to help in organic search? I suspect social noise is used towards some kind of overall quality score in the search engines.

URL's for videos to increase page value and social sharing value
Hello Everyone, We recently developed videos for all of our products. Upon clicking on each video, we have the video popping up in a lightbox. The videos are hosted on Amazon s3. We would like to implement social sharing for each video and to do so, we are going to have the video load on each page upon being clicked using jquery. My question is how we should structure the urls so that the actual product page gets the share value. So for example, if the page is www.website.com/product1.aspx should we have the video be www.website.com/product1.aspx#video and ensure there is a canonical url on each product page so that the benefit is given to www.website.com/product1.aspx Or is there another way that anyone would recommend doing this? The videos are AMAZING and I'd like to ensure that as these videos are shared on social networks, that the value of the share is directed to the actual product page. Any ideas mozzers? Thanks!

Buying Traffic?
Hi Everyone, Has anybody ever bought traffic using a site like visitorboost.com? What are your thoughts? What other services are there? We are trying to supplement our "like/follower" campaigns, while we wait on our organic methods to build followers. Think of a HVAC company just starting out in social....they dont have time to build and nurture a list, (although we will for the future) they need sales now...so they trun to radio, print ads, etc. If we could buy thousands of followers in a demographic that made sense and it was affordable, is it worth a try to get the word out? Thanks in advance guys!
