Pages or Blog posts?
-
Hi,
I am currently building content for a customer's website. There are approximately 50 new content pages I am building about the business, products they serve, how-tos and tips and advice. The website is built on Wordpress so my question is would it be best to post this content as a different blog posts or as separate pages in Wordpress and link them up to a 'hub page' as mentioned on this post about How to rank (point 16)
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks everyone for you helpful comments.
I think the best of both worlds are worth exploring. I think maybe doing tips and advice on a blog style posts and more "evergreen" content as pages. It won't matter eitherway as the Hubpages which I will create can link to either however as Wesley quite rightly pointed out there is a major benefit to blogs as these can be indexed on RSS

Thanks for the comment.
I picked those words because so many people think that blogs are magic bullets and an extremely effective way to serve content..
Yes, they are efficient, but I don't believe that they are the most effective.
Anyone, such as you, who is thinking about using pages instead of a blog has the potential to move up to a superior way of presenting his content.. That is using your brain and your creativity to make a presentation that can be much more engaging for the visitor and much more effective at accomplishing your goals.
Most people just slap up the blog and don't think about the possibilities. You are thinking about them and that is a good thing.
Maybe you will decide to use the blog to publish but build great presentation pages by hand. Or maybe you will build great article pages and promote them with quick messages on the blog. There are many ways to do this well and RSS feeds can be used with both.
Good luck.

I agree with you up to a certain level. I don't think using blog posts is a lazy or uncreative way. People like to subscribe for to RSS feeds to keep up with the latest content. I don't know if Ben will keep posting after this set of 50 new pages/posts, but i think saying that it is lazy and uncreative to 'slam' in into blogpost is a bit rude.
-
Lots of people would just slap them into blog posts. That's the way to go if you are lazy or uncreative.
If you post them on pages and then build nice category pages to present them to your visitors in an interesting way, the engagement can be much higher than what you will get with the chronological presentation of the typical blog.
Of course, you can still build the presentation pages if you use the blog format, if you do it that way then nix the category pages.

You could try a combo.
A page could be used to write about the sort of thing you will be covering in each topic. You could then finish with saying that you will be writing regular posts on the topic and then drop a link to the category (blog posts) on the subject which will give visitors access to al the latest on the subject.
Blog posts will be pushed down when new ones are written so a page accessible from your top navigation may be useful to give an overview if the subject is important enough to users.
Depends what fits with your site though.
Hope that makes sense...

Depends on how you see the content.
If it's evergreen, and in no way time sensitive, I'd be tempted to place it as a page. For example a how to relating to the specific product or service they supply is better not lost somewhere in a blog. Blog entries are great for a Google search, but not so great for an existing customer going to the website and trying to find specific information.
For items that have a sell by date (service changes, new features and the like) and more peripheral content, blog is the way to go.

In my opinion blog posts build be better.
Blog posts are part of categories and then you can create a category such as 'How to's' and then place all blog posts under that category. This way you can create good looking and good scoring pages (the category pages).
If you use pages you will have to do it with direct links such as a big list of menu items. Nothing wrong with that but i would prefer to use posts.

How to handle outdated, unoptimized blog posts receiving little or zero traffic?
I'm doing some overdue spring cleaning on our WP blog. Some big visual updates are in the works, but currently I'm working on pruning and updating some poopy and outdated content. Many of the older posts weren't written with SEO in mind and were posted to the blog merely as an extension of our monthly enewsletter. Here's an example: http://pq.systems/2FkQyVG This post needs a lot of work to meet our new standards. The content is thin, readability is weak, kw targetting is non-existant, the visuals suck, zero links, and the charting software mentioned has since been replaced with another solution that we are currently promoting. There are quite a few other posts with similar issues... Any thoughts on the best way to handle these posts? From poking around similar Q&A threads, it seems my options are: Create new updated post, remove old post, 301 redirect from old to new Create new updated post, add blurb & link pointing to new post at the top of old post Edit/update old post, add "This post was updated....etc" blurb to top of old post Any other options or opinions on which solution I should go with would be much appreciated!

More Singular KW Targeted Landing Pages vs. Less Multiple KW Targeted Landing Pages
So my question is... I have a adopted a site which currently ranks quite well for some industry competitive keywords with a number of poor quality landing pages which specifically target a singular keyword. I am wondering if its worth merging some of these pages together into one authoritative, better quality landing page targeting multiple keywords (as the intent for some of these keywords are largely the same). What i don't want to do is jeopardise the existing rankings in doing so. The alternative option would just be to improve the content on the existing landing pages without merging. What are peoples thoughts on this? Are there any positive case studies out there where merging has had a positive effect? Any help would be great. Regards,

Where to position a new page?
Hi there 🙂
On-Page Optimization | | Enrico_Cassinelli
Our website is about a particular region in Italy, the Langhe area, famous for food and wine (barolo and barbaresco are produced here). We need to rollout a few new pages about cellar/winery tours: one main page with the list of tours, and the various subpages for each tour. We already have a page about travel, and a page about wine (with a sub-page about wineries). The URLs looks like:
langhe.net/travel/
langhe.net/wine/wineries/
(Note: i'm translating from italian here) Now, I'm wondering where is better to position the new pages:
langhe.net/travel/winery-tours/name-of-tour/ or
langhe.net/wine/wineries/tours/name-of-tour/ From an SEO perspective (within my limited experience) the first option has a shorter URL, but the second feels more "natural" to me. What do you think? Thanks 🙂

On-Page Report Card: Whats up with the TITLE of the page?
Started to fix the SEO issues on a customers website. When I run a "On-Page Report Card" It says that the title of the webpage:
On-Page Optimization | | maklarlabbet
www.visbymaklarna.se/visbymaklarna.html Is "visbymäklarna - Ditt förstahandsval på gotland." But if I check in the source code of the webbrowser the title should be:
name="title" content="Vi är mäklarna på Gotland som sätter människan i första rummet" /> (Actually this is with special encoding for the swedish characters. The title in coded text is: "Vi är mäklarna på Gotland som sätter människan i första rummet") Anyway the title of the webpage source code and the title of what SEOmoz reports is different. Why is that?0 -
How far back do you need to optimize your blog posts?
We are going through a clients blog history as they are entering a redesign phase for the blogs. We are trying to determine how far back we need to optimize past blog posts so that they can be found easier on search engines. Is it better to optimize the past years? 2 years? 6 months? only the top posts? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Home Page SEO
Hi! We recently re-designed our home page in early March. After Google panda, we re-tweaked it again, before we take it live, we really want to get some expert's opinions. We would be grateful for any comments/suggestions/feedback, particularly in the following area (you will need to click a few times to get the page to real size): is the bottom content ok? please scroll down all the way. 2) We used semantic keywords for 5-6 anchor interlinks to the same page to promote core products from the home page. Is this too much? 80% links on the footer is a repetition of header navigation links, do these footer serve any SEO value or is it over - optimization? Here is the URL: https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/36547134/1/WebDesign?h=109d4a Thanks a lot!

Top Level Category Pages
On certain sections e.g. Top Level Brand Pages i would like to include history, images of products in use, videos, and possibly even a timeline of the manufacturers history. Being that its a store this would push the products quite a bit lower on the page. Can i still have a great positive effect if its below the product listings?
