How far back do you need to optimize your blog posts?
-
We are going through a clients blog history as they are entering a redesign phase for the blogs.
We are trying to determine how far back we need to optimize past blog posts so that they can be found easier on search engines.
Is it better to optimize the past years? 2 years? 6 months? only the top posts?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Krista, as Donnie says (assuming you don't have the time/resources to optimise all posts), I would optimise all posts that are still useful. If an old post has "evergreen" content, it's probably worth optimising. If the post is outdated or time sensitive, it probably has limited value at present and therefore would be a lower priority for optimisation.
I would delve into the Analytics data and see what posts are ranking well, what keywords you are ranking for and what type of content visitors are most interested in. I would also perform a quick audit of all blog posts to decide what their primary keyword would be, whether they are still useful, what sort of traffic they are receiving and their priority for optimising.
Good luck!

Its really tedious but it will be all of them. But if you don't have the resources, just go over which SHOULD be more popular. Another could be selecting the ones that are already ranking on the bottom of the SERP and just needs a little boost to get to the top.
It could be tedious because just because your SEO a page, it doesn't guarantee 1st page rankings. Lets say 7th page to 4th page will not do much of a difference. But if it is to 2-3rd page to 1st page, you will definitely increase the traffic.
Its all a matter of whether or not the page will actually rank. Otherwise, it will be pointless.
So again, my suggestion is to optimize the better ranking pages that aren't at the top yet.

Hi Krista,
If the old data is useful to users I would update all of it. If the old data is useless to the users I would create good new data and optimize the newer posts.
Now when you say optimize... are you referring to just adding links to the existing content? If so.. I would also be careful having a bunch of links pop up all at once will not look natural : ) If all your doing is adding some links I would not do it all at once... Space it out, maybe do 1-3 a day..

Optimizing images and more for page speed
Hey everyone! I run a comparison/affiliate site for men's clothing. On the side of that, I have a Squarespace site for inspiration, articles and outfit pictures. I've tried to optimize site speed for the Squarespace site without much success. I've run all pictures trough JPEGmini to decrease file size but it doesn't seem to be enough. Below I attached the result I got when I run one of the pages trough Lighthouse and GTmetrix. Do you have recommendations of what I can do to improve the results? Is it a good idea to use next-gen formats for pictures as Google suggests as an example? Kind regards,

Is it impossible to get out of Panda? Matt Cutts says if you fix the problem you "pop back" but if so why are their so few examples?
In this video matt cutts says: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IzUuhTyvJk about 15 "once we re-run our data (every few weeks) if we determine your site is of higher quality you would pop back out of being affected" Panda has effected thousands of sites and a lot of smart people have been working on the problem for about 2 years since the first panda was launched, but I can only find 1 site that has "popped back" to their original rankings. e.g. http://searchengineland.com/google-panda-two-years-later-losers-still-losing-one-real-recovery-149491 Apart from Motortrend.com I can't find any sites (of reasonable size) / case studies of sites that have solved the panda problem, and were definitely hit by panda. Which doesn't feel right, some people have deleted a ton of pages, redesigned their site, improved their content, etc with no success. Therefore is it a pointless exercise? Therefore, is it better to simply give up and start a new site?

Wordpress when to use posts or pages
Hi Guys, I have a network of EMD sites that currently use a homepage and then we have a blog page which has 5-6 posts on. Is this the best way to do it with sites under 10-20 pages? Or should we create say 3-4 new pages/categories and drop the posts relevant to each page/category in there? Thank you Jon

On site optimization - anchor text in body text
Hi I am learning SEO from scratch and am only a couple of weeks in. My wife has just started a website selling children clothes. In the left bar there are links to the different producers. Clicking it takes you to the products from that producer. In the body text om the main page ( epleskrinet.no) the same producers are mentioned. By time i need to opitmize for all of these. Is there any point in making them anchor text - taking them to the same URL as is given in the side bar ? Or will it get discounted ? Dan Laerum

What's the best strategy for reducing the number of links on a blog post?
I'd like to optimize my blog better for search. The first reccomendation I got from my SEOMoz Pro Campaign Crawl was that I needed to reduce the number of links per page on my site. I have lots of links from navigational items in the sidebar that people do click on. I'd really like to keep some or all of the tags and categories I list. Comments are another issue. Most of our posts get about 10 comments. However, our best posts get 50-100 comments. Those comments create a lot of links. I was planning on attempting to reduce the number of links using javascript but I guess Google understands javascript now. I may still do this b/c our pages are huge and some progressive rendering would likely help the user experience. Can you use javascript (ajax or otherwise) to limit the number of links on your page in a way that helps your SEO efforts? Any specific suggestions for reducing links that come from comments and navigational items? How much will reducing the number of links on a given page help with SEO? Any simple way to estimate or quantify this without diving in? Thanks in advance!

Is Google Places appropriate for an ecommerce site and blogs
I'm working with a client that has an ecommerce site. He has e physical addresses where they work, however, neither would want customers to go to their office. Is it inappropriate to create a Google Places listing in this situation? I'm working with another client who runs a blog for his PR agency. Is it OK to create a Google Places listing for a blog? He would welcome people to visit his agency.
