How come de results from the old Google Keyword Tool are so different from the results from the keyword planner?
-
When I insert the keyword 'IT jobs' with Belgium as country and Dutch as the language, there is a huge difference between the results in the keyword planner and the keyword tool.
Keyword tool says 1,000,000 local searches per month
Keyword planner says 590 local searches per month
This is a really big difference and I don't know which results I should trust.
Can anybody help me with this?

Hey There - this has been throwing a lot of us off. There was a great thread a week or two ago here: http://moz.com/community/q/accuracy-of-search-volume-for-keyword-planner-v-old-keyword-tool
Michael and Kevin pretty much summed it up too

Yes, unfortunately the new keyword planner is restricted to exact match historical data only, so you have to make sure to compare the exact match volumes from the old keyword tool.
They probably still don't match exactly when comparing old and new exact match volumes, but this is because in the keyword planner you are seeing a mobile AND desktop combined number, and in the old keyword tool, the default setting is to show desktop search volumes only.

In Google Keyword Tool you are set to broad match not exact match which brings the total down to 480.

Track buttons in Google Tag Manager
Hi! First question: I am wondering if it's possible to track two buttons with the same code in Google Tag Manager without changing the code? There are different page URL's.. Second one: My tags are displayed in Google Analytics as 'events'. When I put the events in 'goals', the number of times it fired differs from my events. Someone who can help me with this issue?

Is Google doing anything about the spam referrer plague in Google Analytics?
My client manages 15+ websites and we have observed the spam referrer issue has gotten steadily worse and worse in the last few months. I took the time to weed out the worst offenders via traffic filters but our referral traffic source garden was quickly full of weeds again a few weeks later. Does anybody know what the Google Analytics development team is doing to combat the spam referrer issue? I find it quite amazing that Google goes through the asinine effort to block out organic keyword data ("not found" & "not provided) but they don't seem to care about blacklisting/filtering spam referrers. Is there a way to do this sort of keyword research?
I'd like to be able to do some keyword research as follows: Let's say I have two (or maybe more) separate keyword phrases I want to rank, is there a way to find out what combination and/or additional keyword phrases/descriptors are searched for the most? For example, let's say I want to rank well for the following terms. "Green widgets" and "boxes" Is there a tool I can use that will give me ideas/suggestions on how to use those two keywords the best way? Especially showing me long tell keyword suggestions I may not even know about. The tool may show me things people search for like "best boxes for your green widgets" gets more serach results than "best boxes for my green widgets." (Helping me figure out which combo of words in a long tail phrase is better. Or it may tell me a suggestion I didn't think about like "how to build boxes for your green widgets," or "how to put your green widgets into boxes," or "where to find boxes for your green widgets" or other combinations of things people search for using those two phrases? This may be possable using google keyword tools, but if it is, I'm not sure how to do it. Looking forward for any feedback. Thanks!

Google WM Tools: Canonical URL
Hello, We have a Google Webmaster Tools account under nlpca(dot)com but our preferred URL is www.nlpca(dot)com Do I need to delete the account and start over with the correct domain version, or is there a setting I can set somewhere? The code is in Joomla so I can't set a rel="canonical" in just the home page. Currently we have all home page version redirected to www.nlpca(dot)com Thanks!

Google Analytics
Hello In Google analytics you can obtain the number of visits as a result of non-paid search. You can also set up custom reports to find the number of organic searches. The numbers are different, so what is the obvious difference between these two metrics that I'm missing. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Neil
