Driving Website Traffic
-
How much does organic traffic make up of your overall traffic? I have typically been driving my traffic through social channels and trying to get a feeling for how much of my traffic I should expect through SEO over time. For my blog www.shoottokyo.com I promote it through Google+, Facebook, and Tweeter. I also 'distribute' it through Feedburner, Google Currents, Feedly and a Newsletter. There isn't one way to promote but rather target actions through multiple channels.
Google+: 1,500,000+ have me in circles
Facebook: 3,000+ friends, fans and followers
Twitter: 2,700+ followers
Feedburner: 2,300+ subscribers
Google Currents: 36,000+ subscribers
Feedly: 1,000+ subscribers
My newsletter: 2,900 subscribers
Each of these are good sources of traffic. Are there others you would recommend considering? How much guest posting do you typically do?

You may use this SEOgadget tool.
It is thought for Infographics, but it works perfect for photos too (and aren't both images?).
For reverse images searches you can use http://www.tineye.com/, but it still present the one photo per time issue...

Hello,
How you made 1.5 mil of Google+ followers ? Serious now! I am really interested about ...
Could you describe?

Great advice. Thanks Gianluca. I'll try that plugin. How do I make my photos embeddable? Is there something specific I need to do to them. I have tried reverse image search but you need to load one photo at a time. Is there anyway for batching checking?

Hi David!
I think that you may miss part of the potential organic traffic because your category page are somehow thin when it comes to words. Maybe you could use this plugin by Geoff Kenyon, which may solve this problem.
Said that, I would not worry that much for having such a small % of Search traffic - obviously I don't know the total amount of organic traffic to your site. That means that you don't have to worry about Panda and Penguin that much, because you are not Google-depending
What I would maybe suggest, more than guest blogging (which could be an idea, but just now and then and in very targeted blogs/portals), I would make your photos embeddable and/or starting asking for credits using the Google Reverse Images Search, catching those sites using your photos without crediting.
Related to "social" or new opportunities of referral traffic... I would go for Forum specialized to Japan and Japan-lovers oriented people. I would also target sites like Fodors or Lonely Planet or the same National Geographic, due to the affinity your site has with theirs.

Hi Matthew
My question was what % of traffic do people typically get from organic traffic. It is probably 10-20% now.
My social media approach is to focus on few networks and be active and engaging.
I try to only do a few posts a day of my own content. I make sure I respond to comments when people interactive on my content. I think you need to be genuine with people else it comes through. I often read the blogs of my fans/followers.
I am very generous in sharing others content. I use Feedly to read blogs and I constantly share others content and I always make sure to @ them. Often you will get retweets from them and pick up followers from them. I am very careful to spread out my posts throughout the day. I use Buffer so when I am reading blogs and news I add them to my Buffer to be send out later in the day. I do similar with Do Share for Google+.
For me Newsletter have grown the list through giving away an eBook and a pop up for sign ups. I put a pop up on my site a two months ago and I get 400 sign ups a month now and only had 2 people comment about it (not even complain).
For services like Feedly, Flipboard and Google Currents I simply emailed them and asked them to list me. It was surprisingly easy and they said Yes. Flipboard even ran a splash page for me. Never hurts to ask.

I'm sorry, I'm not clear what your question is.... I would imagine everybody's % of organic traffic varies depending on how they promote their business. Myself it is about 40% organic, 20% direct, 30% referral and 10% campaign. I would REALLY like to increase my campaign (email marketing) so I am less dependent on Google.
You should be teaching a CLASS on building a following on Social Media - holy cow! Those are some fantastic numbers! Mind sharing a couple tips on how you built that kind of following!? How long did that take you if you don't mind me asking?
I am new to guest posting myself but just joined MyBlogGuest and just learned of an enormous list of sites to guest post on if you are interested (cant vouch for this list but there is 500 of them to check out) http://www.buzzblogger.com/500-places-to-syndicate-your-content/
All my best,
Matthew

Sudden drop in traffic in April and stagnant since then
Hi, I am the editor at a travel website based in Singapore (www.tripzilla.com). In mid April, we suffered a drop out of the blue and in total, it was a 20% drop overall. We post about 2-3 new articles a day, and we do research our keywords. I have also been updating our older ranking articles but seems like it's not really working. In May, we only received a .50% growth 😞 I have to bring it back to speed, and I really dont understand the decline, since the "formula" of our postings has been the same since I joined the company a year ago. Please help thank you! onjn7UV

Add a Search box (content hub) for my website?
Hello We would like to introduce a search area in our website, to help our users to find all information regarding a specific topic (landing pages, infographics, blogs, videos, etc...). Before we decide to build everything internally, we were wondering if there is any widget or plugging to make this in a smooth way and that works fine. I have also seen that Google offers a custom search option to make this happens. I would really appreciate advice about what to do regarding this topic: Is there any company that offers a really good solution for this? Is worth to use Google custom search option? Or the best option is build it internally? PS: I have seen that there are many plugins for wordpress, but our site is not a wordpress blog. Just to clarify. Many thanks for your help 🙂

Can We Publish Duplicate Content on Multi Regional Website / Blogs?
Today, I was reading Google's official article on Multi Regional website and use of duplicate content. Right now, We are working on 4 different blogs for following regions. And, We're writing unique content for each blog. But, I am thinking to use one content / subject for all 4 region blogs. USA: http://www.bannerbuzz.com/blog/ UK: http://www.bannerbuzz.co.uk/blog/ AUS: http://www.bannerbuzz.com.au/blog/ CA: http://www.bannerbuzz.ca/blog/ Let me give you very clear ideas on it. Recently, We have published one article on USA website. http://www.bannerbuzz.com/blog/choosing-the-right-banner-for-your-advertisement/ And, We want to publish this article / blog on UK, AUS & CA blog without making any changes. I have read following paragraph on Google's official guidelines and It's inspire me to make it happen. Which is best solution for it? Websites that provide content for different regions and in different languages sometimes create content that is the same or similar but available on different URLs. This is generally not a problem as long as the content is for different users in different countries. While we strongly recommend that you provide unique content for each different group of users, we understand that this may not always be possible. There is generally no need to "hide" the duplicates by disallowing crawling in a robots.txt file or by using a "noindex" robots meta tag. However, if you're providing the same content to the same users on different URLs (for instance, if both example.de/ and example.com/de/ show German language content for users in Germany), you should pick a preferred version and redirect (or use the rel=canonical link element) appropriately. In addition, you should follow the guidelines on rel-alternate-hreflang to make sure that the correct language or regional URL is served to searchers.

Best way to publish FAQs to capture long tail traffic?
If you want to target long tail traffic from commonly asked questions what is the best way to publish answers to these questions? A really long FAQ page, a new page for each question in a /faq/ subfolder, adding them to relevant product pages that already exist? Is creating a new page for each question a problem because the answer might be a paragraph and Google doesn't like thin content?
