Feedback on this site

Can I get some feedback on this site's seo efforts? I would like to know what they are doing right and what can be improved, especially the ones under the Locations menu.

From a design perspective, It was mentioned before to remove the water. Moving backgrounds very rarely help a website. Particularly if they repeat like this one does. Replacing that with just a light blue background or some light transparent water will make your website a lot more aesthetically pleasing to visitors.
The repeated image of the flooded house is not required either. Either remove it from the bottom half of the page, or from the changing 6 images from the top.
You also have a fair amount of information on your home page. It makes it quite cluttered and often an overwhelming overload of information to your customers. Change it to smaller links with more information and remove the unnecessary extras. For example, Certifications can be moved down to a link next to Contact and Private Policy down the bottom. It doesn't need to be on every page.
While the home page is very busy, there is a contrast of a lot of white space on others.
Best of luck with your business!

They have local pages for their major services and the other pages are just a general company overview.
http://environmentaldisasterservices.com/mold-removal-cincinnati/
Can't really target cincinnati or something on that sump pump page as they serve so many different cities and states. Would probably be adding a paragraph or so to the water damage page for each city for things like sump pump and other smaller services.
-
Just from a quick look.
Duplicate content on multiple domains. see here
I would rewrite many of the title tags to target local search terms <title>Sump Pump Repair | Sump Pump Problems |title> I would instead write something like this... <tltle>Sump Pump Repair: One Hour Response in Cleveland and work "problems" into the content. When people have a sump pump problem they want you there FAST. </tltle>
Really thin content on some of these pages... http://environmentaldisasterservices.com/mold-testing/
If this was my site I would have a LOT more content. A LOT more. I would write articles about the types of problems that are specific to the areas that you serve. These would be informative articles. Not chest pounding marketing with the company name or "our team" used twice in every sentence. This would be very similar to "local news" (but evergreen topics).
Saturate the SERPs. Show your expertise.

I agree... essentially if they would like to rank they would have to work on the content (both targeting and freshness), building additional links, and increasing social mentions and presence.
-
The way I see it, if they started building links and left the site as it is it's really no point, as on-page optimization is the starting point of any website
-
Good point on the title tag, definitely want to make them read more organically and natural. Perhaps instead something like: Disaster Restoration Experts > Serving Ohio and Indiana.
-
Noah it looks like you are heading down the right track:
- Your site is indexed in Google/Yahoo (24 pages which seems like all pages)
- You have a great diversity in your anchor text
- Your domain authority is low but if it is a new site it should not be surprising
- All of your content is in search engine crawlable content types, including the navigation
- You have a properly formatted robots and XML sitemap
My suggestion is find a way to keep your content fresh moving forward. Perhaps like a blog or articles section on your website where you can begin targeting longer tailed content themes. Also, keep working on your outreach especially on social. Perhaps offer a social referral bonus for customers who refer a friend on a social network?
Keep up the good work!

Hi there,
Just clicked the site and as it loaded up I saw the floating water effect, lose it quick and fast .
The page Disaster Restoration | Disaster Resto... got an overall PageSpeed Score of 46 (out of 100).
If you did hired some seo guys my suggestion is to lose them as well, and do your research properly before hiring someone

Should I delete youtube videos when moving to Wistia (or other on-site platform)?
One of my new clients recently built a site that has a great potential for ranking product pages with video rich snippets. Each product page has a single video, but they are currently hosted on youtube and embedded using Youtube iframes. Overall the videos aren't a great fit for Youtube, and we have decided to move the product videos to Wistia. (Much thanks to Phil Nottingham for his answers in this post, and his overall insights on video SEO in general). So what is the best way to make sure we get original credit for the video? I'm planning to take down all the product videos from the Youtube account as soon as we switch the embeds on the site. Is that enough?

Internal Linking | Site Architecture & Impact of PANDA
Recently, an SEO told me about a problem with my site architecture. Before I take any action, I would like some advice on this. May be this is basic for may people who read this. My e-commerce site has over 400 pages - all of which are regularly updated. I sell 4 products and all 400 pages have an image (which says "subscribe now") clicking on which gets the user to the subscription/payment page. Many pages have 3 images on the same page (mostly because these pages are huge with more than 2000 words on each page and they require a lot of scrolling down, so we placed the "subscribe now" button at the top, middle and end of page). Now effectively this means that there are over 1000+ images pointing to the subscription/ payment page. (1) I have been told that I should either remove these or put a "nofollow" on these images/subscribe now buttons. Should I do either? Similarly, I have a legal disclaimer at the end of each page with a link to a detailed disclaimer page (this appears once under each page) followed by a standard boilerplate language (which I think will be about 15% of the total page content). (2) Should I use image for the language instead? Does it count as duplicity of content? Note: All redirects and pages are on the same/ my own domain.

Is it possible for a web site to get 'Pigeon Holed' geographically?
I have a site that sells widgets. It's called widgets.com. I want to sell widgets locally in 10 different geographic areas so my url structure/kw goal is as follows: URL KW I Hope to Rank For
Image & Video Optimization | | BrianJGomez
widgets.com 'Widgets'
widgets.com/houston/ 'Houston Widgets'
widgets.com/dallas/ 'Dallas Widgets' So I've optimized my site accordingly where my home page has no Geo optimization and my 'city pages' are all geo optimized, complete with hcard brick and mortar addresses that are all legit offices that sell our widgets. My problem, is that despite all that, my home page (which again, is not geo-optimized) is now ranking for 'Dallas Widgets'. This is messing up my strategy and very frustrating because the home page does not have any information Dallas residents will find helpful about widgets. So my question is, am I better off just owning this 'Dallas' label is forcing on my site and just optimize the home page for dallas and keep the rest of the 9 cities in their directories? Does anyone have any experience with getting pigeonholed geographically speaking?0 -
Duplicate Video within site
My questions is about duplicate video content. I haven't been able to get a clear understanding from reading the previous threads. We are hosting our videos with Vimeo and embedding into our site. I want to embed them in 2 locations - on our features page with Java (Can be seen here http://simpletexting.com/features/). I also want to embed them in our resource section so that we can link to them directly. I am wondering what the best way to do this for SEO and whether there is a chance that google will penalize us for duplicate content? If leave out the videos on the features page in the XML sitemap, does that address the problem? There are 2 threads I saw on the topic and they have somewhat conflicting opinion from the same person. http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-video-content-question --Duplicate video on the same site is not a problem http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-video-onsite-how-do-you-treat-this-in-sitemap -- Duplicate videos are a problem as google can recognize them as such due to audio wave patterns, video length etc. Thanks

Our site is showing up #1 for most terms with a blended local listing, but no longer in the organic listings
...after some SEO updates were made. While I am ecstatic about a #1 local listing, I am concerned that we aren't getting that second organic listing on even the top 50 results! Besides improving the content and SEO on the inner pages with the hopes to get them to rank, does anyone have any suggestions for what we are doing wrong? We (dm-remodel.com) are ranking well for things like "ann arbor kitchen remodeling" and "ann arbor bathroom remodeling" Thank you very much for any help!!

Multi-site listings in Google Local/Place pages
I've had problems with a client that is a local medical center with multiple sites/addresses. We've created a Place Page for each location and linked it to the location page on the client's website that matches the address on the Place page. But that means we're not linking to the medical center's home page -- and Google Places doesn't like that. I know this because after we'd owner-verified each Place Page, Google went in and just changed the website link that was a deep link to a location page and replaced it with a link to the home page. But now there's not an address match. How should we handle this? Related question: Does it make sense to claim a separate listing in Yelp and other local directories for each of the separate locations since they each have a unique address? Will Yelp & other local directories allow for links to non-home pages on the client's website?
