Google keywords
-
I'm having trouble understanding how google determines out of my text what are the keywords and what aren't. Is there somewhere I can go that will tell me what google sees as my dominant keywords and I'd like to see my total keyword list too. We are running eCommerce and I don't think it is picking up on everything we expected it to see as keywords. I'm pretty new to this SEO stuff but I'm trying to learn. Any help would be appreciated. I understand I'm suppose to include important words in my page titles, headers and meta description and use effective markup as well so I'm just a bit lost on how I can actually see what google counts as my keywords and their level of power/importance. If this isn't possible if anyone has any suggestions on how to gauge this, I'm open to ideas! Thanks in advance guys!

There isn't a fixed, known answer to your question, but perhaps I can offer some guidelines.
First off, repeating your keyword over and over on the page is very unlikely to fool Google any more, and boost your ranking. On a page with 1000 words, it might be natural to see the primary term the page is about repeated a dozen or so times; if it appears 100+ times, Google is very unlikely to decide that makes the page MORE relevant for that term, and more likely, Google will see that as an indicator of spam. My advice: write naturally, and don't try to inject the keywords...just make sure they appear once or twice.
In page titles, the answer is in the SERPs themselves. Do a search for a reasonably competitive term, e.g. "Nikon D5200". None of the page 1 results have the term in the page title more than once.

How many times and where can I use a keyword before google rules us as over optimizing? I saw the dispute over using the keyword in the title and in H1 and if that was disputable I'm not sure how often I can use a certain keyword on a page.

One of the best tools to check how well a page is optimized for a particular keyword is the Moz On Page Grader Tool.
All you need to do is to enter the URL and the keyword you want that page optimized for , hit the "Grade on page optimization icon and the tool will give you an overall grade based on your optimization efforts for that keyword on the page. They take a lot of important factors into account including:
- Rel Cannonical Usage
- Page Title
- Accessibility
- Keyword usage in the document
- Content Length
- Links
- Header Tags
It's such a powerful tool. You can basically run this tool for the top 10 URL's ranking for your target keyword and see how the competitors are faring on this tool and what you can do to improve your position.

There are a number of things that Google looks at to determine how relevant your page is to a certain keyword phrase:
- presence of keyword phrase in page title
- presence of keyword phrase in URL
- presence of keyword phrase in domain
- presence of keyword phrase in body text
- presence of keyword phrase in image ALT text and image filenames on the page
- presence of keyword phrase in both internal and external links to the page
Meta description isn't really considered by Google in terms of relevance/ranking, but of course it's what's shown to the user in the search results as the "snippet" from the page, below the page title--so it can affect your conversion (from showing in search results to clicks through to your site).
Typically, you'll want to identify a primary target keyword phrase for each page, and make sure your page title STARTS with that phrase; make that phrase be part of your URL (after removing punctuation and special characters, and replacing spaces with hyphens), make your H1 heading on the page contain that phrase, have the phrase appear a couple of times on the page in the body text, and have an image or two that has the phrase in its ALT text and also the image filename.
Page title is probably the most important here (assuming your domain name isn't an exact match for the keyword--that tends to be REALLY strong still).

Google Forcing Spelling Correction For A Name/Keyword
We work for a doctor who has a common name that she spells differently than the way most people spell it. So when you put it in Google Search, Google keeps trying to say "do you mean this spelling instead?" and it corrects it, but the name I'm putting in IS the correct spelling of the name. I'm worried this is going to affect how people will find her when they type in the correct spelling of her name in Google Search. Any solutions of how we can avoid this problem?

Way of including Keyword into content
Hi all! My website is that of a large 7 bedroom luxury villa in Barbados (www.bruadair.com). Now, I am having problems understanding how i can include my targeted keywords in to my content without it looking unnatural and disrupting the quality of the content. I wish to use the keyword phrase 'Large luxury villa in Barbados' however including this directly into on-page elements seems to look unnatural. My current content on my home page is as follows 'Bruadair is a large luxurious villa situated on the prestigious Platinum West Coast of Barbados, located in a beautiful tropical setting with gorgeous beaches just minutes walk away' I want to rank for this keyword however changing to 'Bruadair is a large luxurious villa in Barbados, located in a beautiful tropical setting with gorgeous beaches just minutes walk away' degrades the quality of the content... is there anyway i can get round this issue? I greatly appreciate any help/advice given to my problem! Thanks once again, T

Keyword and Keyphrases
I'm looking to optimise my website for some keywords and keyphrases I'm getting a bit confused on how different pages might compete (or help) each other. As we are an automotive dealer I was thinking about building the hompage around 4 keywords (one for each franchise we represent e.g 'Ford'). These show high local monthly searches and medium competition for just the manufacturer name on its own. Then if someone drills down into a franchise homepage (linked from our homepage e.g. www.ourwebsite.com/ford) I was thinking to optimise the page around e.g. 'Ford Dealer' (which has medium local monthly searches and high competition). Then if someone drills down into a particular model I optimise around that and so on. Question is will I be playing the franchise homepage vs the group homepage (Ford vs Ford Dealer) as I have read here on Keyword Cannibalization? Or will it work together? Alternative I guess is not to focus around a franchise on the group homepage and then only focus on the franchise from the franchise homepage onwards but I feel I would be missing a trick? As a new kid on the block help will be most appreciated.

Keyword management - where do i start?
Hi all, i am a starting out SEO. I have recently been browsing our keyword rankings report and noticed that we are very low down on some quite key search terms. I therefor want to focus over the next few weeks, on bringing us up the rankings for these specific terms. Apologies if this is a very basic one, but**,.... I dont know where to start!** I would be very interested if anyone can give me some advice on a plan of action. What actions should be in my action plan? For example, if i wanted to improve our rankings on the following: English school in malta Learning english in malta English classes in malta

Is there a better keyword tool than google's adwords keyword tool?
I have heard a lot of people say not to trust the results of google adword's keyword tool. Is there a better tool out there that i am not aware of that can judge local monthly and global monthly search volume?

Is it bad to optimize for tier one keywords only?
Hello, My site is about personalized cards, and I have optimized (rank A) each sample page to the main topic of the card (eg: sapo pepe). So when people search for that keyword (sapo pepe), my page ranks high. Now, if instead of checking the optimization for "sapo pepe" I check for "cards sapo pepe" I get an F, because the keyword is not there. Thing is that people search for different tier 2 keywords, like "cards, models, examples, etc" and I cannot put that many keywords in the page... My question is: does Search Engines rank you high if you optimize your page for a subset of the keywords people search for? I understand that if someone optimizes for "cards sapo pepe" they would get higher than my site. Hope I was clear, any comment is appreciated! Thanks, MAriano

Google SERPS for similar Keywords?
I have website which is being listed for a keyword which is not in the site. It seems that google is using a Thesaurus to find words with similar meaning. Is this right? How could this be used for SEO purposes?
