Looking for Feedback on Rankings Dropping

Hi,
I am looking for some guidance on figuring out a problem I am having with one of my clients. Their site is http://www.macton.com. They have seen a pretty significant drop in rankings for "hoist systems" "industrial turntables" and "railroad equipment."
Below is my analysis and thoughts. Please let me know if you have any input you can provide me with.
Hoist Systems
- Rankings started dropping significantly July 2nd. Their average position was around the 2nd - 3rd page. They're now in position 100.
- Some things I noticed is that Google is now ranking the page /freight_rail/portable-car-hoist-freight for this term, whereas a few months ago it was ranking /rail_equipment/car-hoist.
I'm not sure why Google has started to rank this new page for this term when there is no reference to that keyword in the page and the other one is better suited.
Industrial Turntables
- Rankings started dropping off in January and they have been up and down and even fell off for a bit in March. They took a deep dive May 28 - Jun 11 and are slowly picking up.
- I noticed that Google is also changing which page it is choosing to rank for this term. Currently it is ranking /rail_equipment/locomotive-turntables, previously it was ranking the homepage around May 28th, and before that it was /equipment/industrial-testing.
Some things we thought would help this was to create a whole new page just on industrial turntables in order to rank better for this term.
Another thing that I think would be highly beneficial is to do some more aggressive link building. Their top anchor text is all brand related, and very few include their target keywords.To my knowledge, I don't think they have a penguin issue, although I could be mistaken.
Can anyone provide input and/or guidance on my analysis? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your input. I know they have some duplicate content at the moment, but I didn't think it would affect it this drastically. No links appear to be spammy and over optimization doesn't seem to be the issue.

When G starts replacing with pages that are not as relative you can consider it may have something to do with a penalty.
Start looking at duplicate content, spammy links to or from the page/site, over optimization, bounce rates etc.

Just wondering how many good links (PR 3-5) it generally takes to improve the site in a competitive space. That is assuming the links will be procured (earned) from the sites in the same domain.

Exact Domain Match Ranking Very Well
Hello, I have some competitors that purchase targeted keywords, host a single page, and do a re-direct on to their inventory page. The problem Im having is getting above them, along with other competitors that have a high DA. They have little or no content on the page but rank very well. Page Rank Sculpting
Just a thought. With the way pagerank works and passing link juice evenly across all your links. Would it make sense to structure your site so that each page passes your all your link juice from lets say your homepage to another page. Then that page would contain all the link juice from the homepage. Then do the same thing with the next pages. For instance Homepage - linkjuice 10 link1 - follow link2 rel=nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link1 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 - follow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link2 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 - follow link4 rel=nofollow link5 rel=nofollow Link3 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 - follow link5 rel=nofollow Link4 - linkjuice 10 link1 rel=nofollow link2 rel-nofollow link3 rel=nofollow link4 rel=nofollow link5 - follow and so on. Will a link from a competitor help me to out rank them?
Greetings mozers, One of my competitors and I both rank on the first page for our main keyword. They have 37k+ links, me only like 300 or so. My company actually has a business location though. This other site is just a listing of locations and they build sites for most of my competitors. If I were able to get listed on their site, would that make me a stronger competitior with them? And we would probably only get a brand term link from them but not a main keyword anchor text. Will it be as effective to get the link from them if it's only for my brand name? Thanks, Cy

Ranking problems in top 3 need some advice from the PROs
HI there, im new to this forum but im doing SEO quite a while. I lost touch with the whole SEO community while building my business's so I said i better get back in touch before I lose my most valued skill. I set up a gift website 3 months before xmas. We decided to focus on the following keywords starting out, gifts, gift ideas, gifts for him, gifts for her and christmas gifts. We have managed to rank No.1 for gift ideas, No.2 for gifts. For "christmas gifts" we could not get it onto the first page, it was hanging around the 12 and 13 spot for weeks, so we decided to stop linking to the page with anchor text "christmas gifts" and use related keywords, the result, we shot to NO.1 within 2 weeks. I now have the same problem with "gifts for him" and "gifts for her" except, i have tried everything but we are still hanging around 4-6 spot on page one, I cant get them into the top 3 and cant understand it. Ive done the following to try give it a boost. Increase the variation of the anchor text Decrease the amount of keywords in title tag Link to it from high PR pages Im really lost and its really bugging me the fact all the other keywords are ranking so well. The only thing I can think of from my research and perhaps someone might be able to give me some advice on this (Backed up by past results) is we have not once linked to this page with the actual URL, 100% of the links are varied anchor text. Would perhaps linking with the plain old URL help it, its really bugging me as we did so well with everything else using 90% white hat, 10% grey hat seo. Please help. Thanks Also, we have not done any social media linking to it.

What do the "best" backlink profiles look like, in terms of percentages from quality content, bookmarks, social media, directories, etc?
I recognize that there is no such thing as one ideal link profile, per se, but I am curious, if you sampled 100 high authority sites, what would their inbound links look like on average, broken out by source type? Some sites would have a ton of social sharing due to their funny pop-cultural content, while others might be quoted and linked in context for their brilliant insights. A very technical resource might gain a lot of links from forum discussions. If I can complete this exercise on my own, I welcome your advice on how to do that with OSE or the like.

Do Expired Domain Retain Their Page Rank ?
I am a little bit confused about buying expired Domain Names because i have got mixed advice over the internet. Some Say That They Lose Their Page Rank And Some Say That They Don't.
