Internal Linking Anchor text
-
Hallo everybody,
I am trying to improve internal linking but I am little bit confused about internal linking title.
Should I use Kenya all-inclusive accommodation, Kenya full board accommodation etc or I should be using the title without the destination name, all-inclusive accommodation, full board accommodation? My worry is if it will not be too much of Kenya in each title.
Any advice what is the best practice?
Thank you very much

Thank you very much Peter! I believe you are right totally about the links opening in the new window. I always thought that it can't be good to have so many links opening in new window.
Thank you very much!
All the best

Hi Iris
If you change some of your anchor texts for some of your internal, I don't think Google will think that spammy. As I said, it is a case of making your linking natural rather than trying to engineer sentences around a keyword phrase.
Looking at and browsing through your site (villasdiani.com) I don't see there is a problem. The amount of links you have per page seems reasonable and I did not notice repeated use of anchor texts. That being the case I wouldn't worry about changing anchor texts as it won't be worth the effort as you would be trying to fix something that is not broken.
Just one thing though that I did notice when browsing your site is that a lot of the links within the body of your pages (not it seems from sidebar links) open a new tab/window when clicked. That's not an issue for your SEO, but I think it is something you maybe should look at from a user experience perspective - which may have a knock on affect to your SEO.
Maybe it's a personal thing for me, but when browsing a site, I want to do so within the same tab/window. If I click an internal link and it opens a new tab/window and then I find that I want to go back to the previous page, I have to close the tab/window to go back. If that keeps happening then I think that can disturb the flow of what you want the visitor to do, i.e. browsing your site.
However, if there's an external link on a site, then I think it is reasonable to have a new tab/window open when that is clicked although there is a case for that to open in the same tab/window as well.
It may be worth putting a question on this out to the Moz community, but for me as I said, it feels a little bit clumsy to keep having tabs opening as I browse your site. It's not a big problem so don't worry that it's going to do anything bad, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I hope that helps,

Thank you very much Peter,
But when I have let's say a tag which is called all-inclusive accommodation, will not google consider me as spam if link to it across the site ones as Kenya all-inclusive accommodation and then only all-inclusive accommodation?
Thank you very much!

Hi Iris
The text you choose for anchor texts is really dependent on where the link is going to appear. The rule of thumb should be to make the link read naturally for the person reading the text. You are right to be wary of repeatedly using the word 'Kenya' in your anchor text links, but that doesn't mean you cannot use it at all.
So, for example, if you had text saying something like, "Kenya is a beautiful place to visit. Our website has the best all-inclusive accommodation you can find...", the link could naturally appear in the phrase "all-inclusive accommodation" or "best all-inclusive accommodation".
But if your text said something like, "Look at our Kenya all-inclusive accommodation pages..." then you could more naturally have "Kenya all-inclusive accommodation" as the link.
So keep it natural and make it balanced.
I hope that helps,
Peter

Value of Links? What is each link worth?
Morning Everyone, I just had this thought and wondered what everyone's opinions were in terms of link value in monetary terms. We'll assume for the purposes of this that the links come from contextually relevant sites and that the sites in question have got the Moz DA from being high quality and have a good quality incoming link profile. Its a bit of a theoretical question, but i guess imagine if the only way you could get links was to pay for them, what would they be worth to you. This is link value for SEO purposes, they will have in addition value from traffic from good sites, that no doubt varies wildly depending on topic. I assume everyone also agrees on: The first link from a domain is the most valuable High DA sites are worth more than low ones. So could anyone who has an opinion on the link value suggest a monetary value for links. Its really just using a monetary amount to see how best to target my time. Here is my example of what might be expected, but I am hoping people with more knowledge will perhaps correct it. DA Rating First Link 2nd-5th Link 5th-10th Link 10Plus Links 5 $5 $2 $1 $0 15 $7 $3 $2 $1 25 $25 $10 $5 $2 35 $45 $20 $7 $3 45 $65 $30 $11 $4 55 $95 $45 $19 $5 65 $200 $100 $45 $6 75 $350 $120 $65 $9 85 $700 $240 $95 $15 95 $1100 $450 $200 $30

Links from my Own Blog to my Own Website and Link Scheme
Hi There, I use my own blog to give advices and offer information related to my business service. Of course in terms of SEO my blog is useful not only to expand my brand presence but also to acquire long-tail traffic. I use to insert a maximum of one link with a relative matching anchor text in every article of my blog pointing to my own webpage. Said that, the questions are as follows: Am I involuntarily participating in a Link Scheme with my blog? And If so, how many links can I send to my own webpage ? Shall I limit the number of links to a minimum? Thanks a lot for your advices.

Best On-Site Internal Linking Practices?
Hi everyone, Our company works extensively with ecommerce website, and we're beginning to wonder with all of the impending Google updates what our best bets for internal linking practices will be, in particular when it comes to menu options. We typically set up our navigation with top-level categories in the main menu, then drop downs to the sub-category level pages. Our question is, should the links in the drop-down menus be followed, and if so, should they be followed links across all pages of the website, or just on the homepage menu list, or not at all? We're trying to figure out what will pass the most internal linking power without being too much and overly "spammy," I guess. Thanks for your input!

Link or Ad
I recently requested a link back from a site that is ranking 2nd for a term that i'm working on and they said they would gladly give me the link and remove my competitors but would also like me to have an ad on the same page for an annual fee that i could link to a landing page. I know that paying for links is no good and google can penalize you. so do i pay them and do a no follow to the landing page from the ad and call it a day? and how does google differentiate an ad from a link?

Link building for rankings VS Link building for relationships
A Big Shout To Everyone -- Good Morning and What's Up 🙂 As I read today through seomoz professional guide to link building and the section why link building matters and in addition to this a newsletter I received today that changed my whole thinking towards link building for rankings vs for relationships. It is already happening on social networks if you are active there, but what about on your website. What are your thoughts on the following ? Google's job is provide the most relevant results to surfers online, and looking the link profile of a site & the page itself is the key to determining which page to serve on plate to the surfers link query ! I think that we as webmasters have to ask ourselves what do we want to achieve with link building. To get quick traffic or build slow authority links, high rankings, lead generation, sales & other things here I may be missing etcccc Other Objective Networking & Relationship Building Alliances : What I discovered today is that building links for 1st page rankings are great and will provide me with steady traffic, but not all of it is targeted traffic, but what else can I do to bring targeted traffic and at the same time try to build alliances with other related non competing business owners online. The idea... is to apply old school networking / relationship building alliances to get targeted traffic to my site that can actually benefit from my services. How Do We Achieve This I become a editor for approving resource links for me site, only the best will be placed on my site as a resource. Build a valuable tightly themed categorized resource section with related non competing resources that can help my sites visitors find what they are looking for, send visitors to non competing resources that may purchase their services which helps me build a relationship with them, and may can with rankings as well, provided I am selective with my qualification process. Questions & Concerns Below : What should I be thinking about when creating a resource categorized links page How many outgoing do follow links should I allow from this links partner page How will this links resource page affect my own SE 1st Page Rankings and is it worth it based on getting targeted traffic Any pros / cons I may be missing here0 -
Do image links with no alt tags pass link value?
"... an image link with no alt tag is useless to search engines..." according to a Nov 2007 seomoz blog post. Is this still the case in 2011? I ask because I'm about to obtain a banner link on a high-traffic site (chiefly for the clickthrough value) but I notice the site uses neither "title" nor "alt" tags.
