How do you get these sitelinks in the SERPs?

How do you get these to appear - http://imgur.com/xV5LA6E Does a website have any control over what appears?

I would start marking anything and everything you can, that makes since to. I mean the Big three have all said that it is the future of the web, so why not start now. I would say top priorities would be marking up things that are already showing in the SERPS... products, prices, reviews, ETC. I think that breadcrumb makes a lot of since to mark up since it could be easily used by a Crawler to understand site structure.

I have heard mixed things on schema.org. Is it worth going through your site and doing that? I work for an ecommerce site. Should we do every page or just category and item pages (our landing pages)?

To my knowledge these site links are links Google's algorithm has decided to display. To directly answer you question there is no magic bullet to get them to display, but here is a list of things that might influence Google's decision to display them. Hope this helps
- Make a site with a clear hierarchy that Google's crawler can easily navigate
- Offer a sitemap to your users with links that point to the important parts of your website
- Create a useful, information-rich, quality content
- Use text instead of images to display links
- Make sure that your title tags and ALT attributes are descriptive and accurate
- Check for broken links
- Use anchor text and alt text that is informative and relevant on internal links
- Include your most important pages in main menus
- Use a breadcrumb's and mark them up with Schema.org
Additionally once you have site links showing you can manage them (tell Google to ignore ones you don't want) through Webmaster tools. Good Luck!

Hello Niners,
There's very little control over this... Via webmaster tools you can demote a sitelink, but you can't tell Google which pages to choose. You can also turn the feature off altogether (though WHY someone would want that is beyond me...)
I guess you have control over the hierarchy of your site, so you could influence the sitelinks, but I don't really know how you'd go about doing this....
Best of luck,
Amelia

Client is paranoid about Google penguin penalty from getting links from a new website they are building
We have a client that is creating a new promotional website that consists of videos, brands and product reviews (SITE B). After a visitor watches a video on SITE B they will be given a "click to purchase" option that will lead them to the original website (SITE A). Our client is paranoid that since all the outgoing links on the new SITE B are going to the original SITE A there might be algorithm penalty (for one website or both). I find this very unlikely and even recommend "no follow" coding for a peace of mind. However are there any resources/links out there that can back up my argument that they will be alright? Thanks

What is 508 compliance and how do I ensure it gets done?
Greetings Mozzers, I'm completely new to 508 compliance and I hadn't really heard of it until yesterday. It came up in a conversation about W3C compliance (which I know Google doesn't necessarily validate for), but I hadn't ever heard of 508. So question is, what is 508 and what needs to be done on the back end to become compliant here or to check for compliance. I do know that 508 refers to government regulation to make your website accessible to all. Thanks for helping out on a rookie question 🙂 Cheers,

Homepage shuffling in the SERP results continously - any thoughts?
We've had some shuffling for a keyword in the SERP results over last few days! Anyone else seeing their rankings bounce all over? It's only affecting one keyword that was previously a stable performer - this has occurred for the last few weeks (with no major changes to the page). Would be keen to hear your thoughts!

Getting backlinks without content marketing
Hey i have a client who currently has a large ecommerce store with over 50,000 hits a months. I've made the recommendation that they should consider adding a blog and invest in content activities. However they won't be able to do so for quite some time. In the mean time what are some ways i can get backlinks (whitehat only). I'm thinking guest posting on high DA blogs and sites is the best bet. Also sponsorship, CSR activties, and the occasional press release. Can anyone recommend any other ways, or methods i can use to obtain good quality links, or articles which discuss this topic. Thanks, Mark

Getting Google in index but display "parent" pages..
Greetings esteemed SEO experts - I'm hunting for advice: We operate an accommodation listings website. We monetize by listing position in search results, i.e. you pay more to get higher placing in the page. Because of this, while we want individual detailed listing pages to be indexed to get the value of the content, we don't really want them appearing in Google search results. We ideally want the "content value" to be attributed to the parent page - and google to display this as the link in the search results instead of the individual listing. Any ideas on how to achieve this?
