Linkbuilding Suggestions For Technical Site
-
Hi Mozzers,
I'm facing a tough link building challenge for a manufacturer's representative of technical controls and am struggling to find links beyond directories.
The site mainly consists of manufacturers products and creating original content is tough for me because of the technical nature of the business.
Any suggestions welcome.

Nice recommendations, Keri.
AND reduce some of the load on their sales and support personnel?...
It will also enable them to strut their expertise.

Can you talk to the client and tell them you have an idea to build their links AND reduce some of the load on their sales and support personnel? Get content by having someone (you, or someone technical that is on contract) talk with the sales and support people and get FAQs about the products. Put on the web what they normally have to answer individually on the phone. Make your site better than the manufacturer when it comes to being the place to go for regarding controls.
For a more specific link idea, does the company sell to universities at all? Could you promote any type of deal for professors to be able to order supplies for engineering classes? Offer educational material that a prof could use on their syllabus that has a link back to you?

Hmm....
How about a competition targeting product designers to design a new product for the company in question or put a spin on an existing product?
Or a competition challenging designers to produce an attention grabbing ad for what sounds like a not very exciting product.
I think there was a blog on seomoz about a lanyard company doing something similar and getting great results.

Find someone who can do this for you and pay them. Better would be go to the client and see if they can provide this.
If you have great content it is much easier to get the type of editorially given links that will survive a Penguin audit. That type of link is also much much more valuable that almost any directory.

though guest post, articles, PRs are the best way to develop natural/one way links. However as you're not technical enough to deal with this issue. So, you may want try with comments, social sharing (Google+, FB, Twitter, etc.).
Start tagging your pages with top bookmarking website (Do Not Spam) with relevant/informative description, which I guess, can be taken from website itself, but don't forget to rephrase or you'll be penalized for dup content issue.
Start participating on the blogs/forums of the same nature, this way you can also develop some technical knowledge and gradually can start writing your own articles, blogposts.

Can piracy sites linking to you hurt your SEO?
Hello, Our website sells software that we have developed, but there are piracy websites that offer a crack/keygen to our software and are linking to our site. From an SEO perspective, are those sites hurtful to us if their spam score is below 30 and their DA is not 1? We'd like to understand if there is any action we need to take from an SEO point or if our site's SEO is not affected by it. Thank you!

Opinions On Resource-Page Linkbuilding
Hi, I'm just looking to get some opinions on resource-page linkbuilding. These are links you would gain from sites when you use the following type of search operators: "keyword" + inurl:links
Link Building | | Tomwindham
"keyword" + inurl:resources
"keyword" + "helpful links"
... and so on... What do you think Google's thoughts on this subject would be when a large portion of the pages returned are long lists of links - usually these will be the title of the page linked to as well as either a bare link or an anchor text link. In some instances a short description of the page linked to would also be there. Are these long-term links that will continue to be relevant and worth spending time on for linkbuilding, or are these going to be see by Google as lower-quality links and potentially unnatural ? For example, Google's page on link schemes states; "Low-quality directory or bookmark site links" may violate their guidelines. Do you think that in some cases, resource pages may be seen as somewhat fitting this description? Thanks! [Edit] I have also found this comment from a Moz post 4 years ago, but cannot find any other reference to John commenting on resource pages: "A while back, someone asked John Mueller in a hangout about the benefits of getting a link on an outdated resource page and the answer was that if it is a link that never gets clicked on then it's probably not passing a lot of value."1 -
On-Page E-commerce Site Optimization
Hello everyone! Just started on a new job as in house SEO and PPC but it is also my first job as such, got little experience and for what I know the site needs a lot of work in terms of optimization. I would like to ask some help and some opinions about what I think should be done in order to rank higher because at the moment the highest ranking page doesn't go higher than the third page for general but high traffic volume keywords. All the titles tag are too long, some of them are up to 100 characters The meta tag isn't optimized properly to attract people and get clicks the content on the product pages is laid out badly and there aren't many keywords a lot of duplicate content there are little inbound links there isn't a section for content such as a news page, a blog or anything like that which makes link building even harder Here my challenges: Create well optimized product, category , subcategory pages to improve also the PPC landing pages Improve the rankings at least to get on the first page for general keywords Choose the right keywords to optimize the site for increase the number of inbound links. I also have to manage adwords and given my little experience I can't seem to prioritize things so any suggestions would be really appreciated. Also if you don't mind to take a look at the site and leave me comments on things that I should improve, I'd be grateful . The main problem also is the niche I work in is not the best, I know nothing about it which makes things worse. repsole.com Thank you for reading Oscar

Link on Every Wordpress Portion of My Site?
I have a website that is pretty popular with good SEO rankings. Part of the site is ran with Wordpress (homepage, articles and static content pages), another part is the forums using vBulletin (probably 75-80% of the pages on the site) and I also have a directory using another software. I have a new website and was going to add a link to it on my older site on the sidebar of Wordpress across all the Wordpress pages. Should I stay away from that or just put it on the homepage? The text is basically "Come check out the new {keyword} site at {SiteTitle}, by the founders of {OldSiteTitle}. I would have the keyword and sitetitle linked over to the new site. Would I be hurting either site by doing this or should it be looked at as a natural link as I do own both of the sites and want to let people know about the new site.

Photography Site ranking!
Hi I am working on a photography site: www.daffodilwaves.co.uk now there isn't many pages nor is the that much text. However you will see that they have a blog (poorly designed one which we are addressing) Now blog posts I feel can be really good as there is generally alot of naturally written text which I don't feel I need to influence. Also generally people will comment so I also believe that is good for rankings too. However I find that the blog ranks higher than the actual website and I dont want that to occur the website is the one that generates the bookings. So can you give me some ideas to transfer the ranking from the blog to the website? I was thinking that within the article I could simply link back to the homepage - would you think that is a good idea? If so would you suggest I use particular anchor text? such as "Wedding Photographer" or "Comtemporary wedding Photographer" Thanks
