Duplicate title tags, how to solve that?
-
We are currently running the "yellow pages". The problem is that Google Webmasters reports a lot of duplicate title tags.
It's because we have three languages and the title consists of company name.
for example: FCR Media Lietuva, UAB (The same in all languages). Of course we make different meta desriptions and so on. How should we solve this problem or should be just leave it as it is?

Hi there,
Are you using the rel="alternative" tag (also referred to as the href lang tag) on the site? This tag will do the following: if your page for "FCR Media Lietuva, UAB" is available in English, Lithuanian and Russian, for example, but all of these pages are meant for the Lithuanian market each page will contain a different tag. They will look something like this:
That is, the hreflang part of the tag says "This content is in English but it's meant for Lithuania." The second says "this content is in Lithuanian and is meant for Lithuania". The third is in Russian but is meant for Lithuania, etc. You can include as many country / language pairings as you like. This is a really handy tag for both countries where multiple languages are used, and for languages that are spoken in multiple countries.
You can also end up with a situation where you have a set of tags like this:
That is saying: "these two pages are the same, but one is in Czech and is meant for the Czech Republic; the other is in Lithuanian and is meant for Lithuania. But the content is actually the same, just directly translated."
This tag is not intended specifically for this problem, but for duplicate content as a whole, where that content has been duplicated for the sake of providing content to people in different countries. As a result, I believe it would be a good tool to incorporate here due to the small amount of duplication as a result of title tags.

I feel your pain on this one. But really you don't have to worry much about two or three URLs pointing to the same pages, especially if they are from the same domain and you declare the page language in HTML http://www.w3.org/International/geo/html-tech/tech-lang.html#ri20050208.095812479
Where you might get in trouble is having too many indexed pages with the same content hosted on many different domains. So if domain1.com, domain23.net, etc. all host the same content, or if many domains point to the same IP, then Google might have something to say about that. That kind of stuff raises a red flag. But what your doing shouldn't hurt you.

Solve Redirect Chains
I've gotten a few Redirect Issues that involve Redirect Chains, with the https:// version redirecting to the www. version and then redirecting to the right URL. Here is an example:

Schermafbeelding 2021-12-07 om 11.04.32.png I've tried setting a direct redirect between the first and the last URL, but WordPress doesn't seem to allow that (it's overwritten). I've also tried checking the internal links to make sure that none of the links are the first one. They don't seem to be there. Does anyone have any tips on solving these Redirect Chains?0 -
Brand name in title?
Hi all, I have noticed that a lot of companies put there brand/company name at the end of their page title. To me, that seems like a huge sacrifice of your limited 60 characters. Wouldn't it be better to use characters for words that people might actually be searching for?

WordPress - duplicate content
I'm using WordPress for my website. However, whenever I use the post section for news, I get a report back from SEOmoz saying that there's duplicate content. What it does is it posts them in the Category and Archive section. Does anyone know if Google sees this as duplicate content and if so how to stop it? Thanks

Small Title Differences cause duplicate errors
My site titles have 3 features in them. Just 1 varies and I am getting duplicate title errors. I'm thinking of moving the different feature from the 2nd position to the start of the title. Doese anyone think this would help? Any other suggestions for a simple fix? Title tag questions
General title tag questions how important is it not to change your title tag, I own a prom dress site and I'm always changing them between prom and homecoming' Is it bad to have title tags that are only different by one word across thousands of pages on your site. I have thousands of dresses so each title tag only varies by the style # I have always had title tags that are for example black prom dresses, well i recently discovered that just black dresses is googled 10 times the amount so im debating changing them to black dresses so that the word dresses is closer to the front of the title tag, am I over reacting or is that a good idea or would it be bad to put black dresses, black prom dresses, black homecoming dresses I also put the year in almost every title tag 2012, is that bad, I ranked great for 2012 stuff but could it hurt my homepage domain rankings on major broader keywords

Title tag - shorter = better?
Is it true that the shorter the Title tag is the more powerful the keywords in it are?
On-Page Optimization | | echo1
I know that the main keywords have to be at the beginning of the title but, having more words in your Title could dilute the effectiveness of your main keywords? Ex: Dallas limo service | Private car by SelectLimousine. Could the fact that I have a second part of my title affect the first part by diluting its value? I would like to rank first for Dallas car service but also for Dallas car service and Dallas limousine service. Is this good practice?0 -
Are duplicate titles an issue for pages I don't need ranking for?
A client has a load of duplicate page titles on their site. However, to cut a long story short, most of these pages are pointless and therefore we don't need ranking for them. As such, I'm not concerned whether any of the pages with duplicate content on them are ranked or not..... unless having duplicate page titles / content on these pages could mean that other pages on the site, like the homepage, don't rank as high because of this. Do I need to worry about duplicate titles on these pages, or can I ignore duplicate content on pages that I don't want to be ranked? Hope that makes sense!
