Adwords: Decrease mobile bid for only certain ad groups?

In one of my AdWords campaigns, I've noticed that certain ad groups consistently convert twice as badly on mobile devices as other ad groups do. Is there a way to adjust mobile bidding only for certain ad groups, or can you only control this campaign-wide?

I have used conversion optimizer a few times, and each time, it basically destroyed everything. Enhanced CPC sometimes makes things MINIMALLY better. I think conversion optimizer would work better if I had ads that were long-running, but I tend to be constantly pausing things and changing things.

Have you tried any of Google's bidding algorithms, like Conversion Optimizer, ROAS bidding, or enhanced CPC? Google will take device (or at least browser) into account when adjusting bids with these, so you should see your tablet spend drop off if you're using one of these algorithms.
This is sort of a random aside, but I read about someone trying to only use Adwords geared towards a certain browser by reading the user agent of the browser after someone clicked an ad, and only including a conversion script on landing page when the user was using the right browser. Then you could set Conversion Optimizer to using a CPA equivalent to the CPC you're looking for, and Google will stop showing ads to those other browsers since they're not converting. Pretty clever, but I've never done anything like that myself.

Enhanced campaigns have been out over a year now (I think). Has Google seen the error of its ways yet and separated computers from tablets? My cost per conversion is five times higher on tablets than computers, and I can't find a way to separate them!

It sounds like you might be selecting the campaign settings, rather than the ad group settings. Try this. When you are in Adwords, look at the folder tree to the left of your Adwords screen. You can see the ad groups indented under the campaigns that they are in. [Sorry if this is too elementary--sometimes it is hard to explain things online.]
Click on the ad group you want to adjust, then on the settings tab, then on the devices sub-tab. [You will know that you are in the correct place, the ad group rather than the campaign, because there will be no ad group tab.]
That is the other thing that might be causing your problem--you have to make sure "Devices" is selected, otherwise it will try to switch you to the full campaign if you have "All settings" selected. If "Devices" is selected, you should have no problem adjusting the mobile bid specifically for that ad group.

You can make the bid adjustment by going into the ad group. Then select "settings" then "devices" you should see a box below that has three lines.

Look to the right of that box and you will see "bid adj" below that in the mobile column you will either have a dash - or a percentage +or- click that and make your bid adjustment accordingly

Hmm, when I do that it tries to adjust it for the whole campaign.

Yes, you can adjust your mobile bid at the ad group level. Select the ad group you want to adjust by ticking the little box to the left of it and click the settings tab, then the devices sub-tab. You can adjust your bid by clicking in the in the "Bid adj." column.

What is the best way to update Adwords final URLs if I'm moving to a new CMS?
Hi there - One of my clients is redeveloping its website. That means, the domain is remaining the same, but the whole site is being rebuilt in wordpress so all the adwords final URLs need to change OR be redirected. There are 550 live adgroups and 3400 ads. We haven't set up tracking. I can't find anywhere what the best thing to do is in this case. The key issues seem to be: 1. 301 redirects - given we have to do these anyway as part of migration, this seems to be the easiest path as Google is ok about redirects as long as they don't go to a different domain. From what I'm hearing, you don't get adversely impacted in terms of quality score etc. This has the huge advantage that you don't have to edit the ad therefore no loss of statistical history or risk of downtime whilst you wait for approval. HOWEVER, there is some concern that if you then redirected again IN THE FUTURE, the redirect might not work (in some browsers) or cause a loop. I'm also concerned that it's messy to leave it like that (ie: with the wrong URLs throughout). 2. Buik updating ads - I don't think this is an option as if you bulk download and then reupload, Google will see this as a new ad, and delete all the statistical history - I'm also concerned that that WOULD impact quality score as you'd be starting from scratch! 3. Changing each ad individually - as far as I understand you'd have to create copies of all the ads (so that you keep the history of the old ones) and effectively create new ones with the correct URL - one by one. You end up with a messy account (a lot of paused ads) but you keep the history? This is obviously the most time consuming and I can't see a way of avoiding ads having to go in for approval again, given the urls are all different, so you'd have to do this a an ad level, not an adgroup/campaign level etc. People redevelop their websites (without changing domains) all the time. It seems strange that no one is mentioning this problem! Any ideas?! Many thanks

Bing Adwords
Hello Moz Community, I am curious to see if anyone else is experiencing the troubles I am having with Bing Adwords. In the past (not even a month ago), my companies campaigns were driving great traffic, with high CTR, Conv. Rate, and low CPC; but recently (start of February) traffic has increased (not the good kind) and CPC has gone through the roof. When I say not the good kind, I mean the traffic we are getting is not relevant at all to our industry our the campaign/ad groups targets at all. These campaigns have been running for a good year with regular maintenance and great results. I keep up to date with all the negative words, constantly am A/B testing copy and landing pages, and keeping up to date with good SEO/SEM habits. Since February has started like I said traffic has increased (not the good kind) and search queries seem to be more and more outrageous by the day. I guess my question is has anyone else experienced this and is it a possibility that Bing (Microsoft) loosened up their algorithm to drive more (I hate to say it) money into their pockets? I haven't heard/read anything publicly that they made such a change but I have read that they have had an increase in profit and a majority of CPC for accounts have increased without actual search share going up. Trademarked words in in Google Adwords ads - Why do competitors get to use them?
Hi, The keyword I want to use in my ad is trademarked, so they disqualified my ad. The trademark was specifically cited as the reasoning. I tried this across maybe 5 different ads. All disqualified The thing I don't understand is that there are like 10 other advertisers who are actively using this "trademarked" word in their ads. It's not like 1 scooted past Google, there's a ton of advertisers doing it. So how do I get past them or were they grandfathered in or something? FYI... I tried dynamic insert to see if that could my "trademarked" word in the back door, but no luck. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Good Adwords resources/ Guides
I'm going to be taking over the PPC for my company. A 3rd party currently does it but I have done a review and they have not been doing a great job ( I spotted a few very basic mistakes), so we want to switch it to in house I have experience with PPC, and I'm confident on the basic of it, but I was looking for a good (recent) PPC resource or guide so I can make sure I'm doing it right, basicly a ppcmoz 😉 For example current the campaigns are set to accelerated, but I have been told that is very wasteful, but the 3rd party explanation is:"We set the campaigns to be accelerated to avoid missing out on potential sales. These can be set to standard if you wish however there is a higher chance that sales could be missed." Which is correct?

Adwords and Analytics figures not matching up
We are currently running a A/B test on a landing page using only adwords to split the traffic. Looking at the figures in adwords has given us a higher number of conversions than the analytics is giving us in transactions. The conversion rate is also different. The only visitors this page is getting is from Adwords. Can someone please help us understand why this is? Cheers Al
