How do I add subdomain tracking to an existing Google analytics account that was set up to track website only (without the subdomain option)

I know you can track subdomains by just selecting the proper code when you set up the analytics and then create filters for the data in analytics. But how do you add a subdomain for existing analytics website. Is there a way to go back and change to the option to include subdomains and then I assume just replace the tracking code with the new code that Google delivers for this?

Thanks for the advice. I have set-up a filter as per the article above however I am getting instances of the following:www.weddingplanner.co.uk/www.weddingplanner.co.uk
www.weddingplanner.co.uk/my_checklist/www.weddingplanner.co.ukIt doesn't seem to be doing it to pages ending .aspx but it does seem to be doing it to pages with a trailing '/'
It seems to be adding the hostname on twice? Any help you can give would be really appreciated.

I do intend to add the filter. I just wasn't too solid on exactly how to go about the code in sites still running classic to get things done. Again, I appreciate the help.

If you are using classic analytics you will need to make a small amendment to the code. you can find this information by going to:
Admin> (Middle Column) Tracking Info
You will see a little on/off switch next to the subdomains option, if you turn it on you will notice a single additional line of html is added to the tracking code:
_gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'example.com']);
If you add this to the code on the site you will be able to track subdomains in analytics.
If you then want to see the sub-domains in the reports you may also want to add a new profile complete with a special filter which will display the entire URL of a page, not just the section after the root domain. There is a guide on how to do this but cant find it right now (Admin>Filters (3rd column)). if anyone knows where that guide is please pop a link as i would like to credit it to the correct person, its incredibly useful.
Note: Make sure you add the filter to a new profile or you'll lose your historic data.

We setup a new Google Analytics account for the new domain but the old one is still there
Hi, Our company has changed their domain almost a year ago and after the migration, they created a new Google Analytics account rather than changing the address on the existing GA account. Now I can still see that Google indexing the old domain. Just wanted to ask if we can still tell Google that we've changed the domain on the old one? Or, should we just go ahead and use the new one and delete the old one? Very confusing, but our traffic is constantly dropping although we rank for on the first page for tracked keywords, just want to understand if there is a connection between the organic traffic droppings and not telling Google we've changed the domain. Google Analytics - Tracking multiple thankyou pages?
Hi Guys, I want to track email opt-ins for multiple thank you pages. The setup is as follows: http://image.prntscr.com/image/57632e05a15f42fda0b8ffec2d176460.png I have not yet built the thank you pages, so i was wondering what the URL should be to make it easy to track them in GA? Cross domain tracking Google Analytics
Hi there, Got a question on cross domain tracking: We have a couple of TLD's to serve localized content to our visitors, next to our main .com TLD where our app is running as well in a subdomain. Situation is this: Local sites:

app.marketingsite.com Conversion gets triggered when somebody ends up in app.marketingsite.com/firstuse for example. People can sign up at the local site filling in their email but they end up in app.marketingsite.com/firstuse Reading this article on cross domain tracking I'm getting a bit confused on the setup of the tracking code itself. The sample code provided shows these two lines: ga('require', 'linker'); ga('linker:autoLink', ['maindomain.com','targetdomain.com']); Now the question 🙂 Is it correct when I think that maindomain should be replaced with our local TLD's on every one of those, and that targetdomain is where the conversion happens? Google Analytics: Multi channel funnel
Hi 🙂 I have a little problem. In Multi-channel Funnel Overview I see 50 conversions from Paid Search (screenshot 1). But when I click on Assisted Conversion and then choose Paid Search, I see 31 Assisted Conversions and 32 Last Interaction Conversion. (screenshot 2) So my question is - why the number of converstions in overview (50) is different than number in Assisted Conversions (assisted or last interaction conversion, or both together)? Tracking Subdomains without access to Primary Domain
Hi, I have look after mutliple sub domains on a website and want to implement GA sub domain tracking across them. I do not have however have access to the primary domain as thats controlled by a larger organisation. I'm wondering how to set this up so it tracks correctly? Do I set the domain name in my property to the primary domain, or the main subdomain? For example I have test1.example.com (which is basically a homepage), test2.example.com, test3.example.com and test4.example.com which are various sections. As stated, I don't control the root example.com so Do I use setdomainname test1.example.com in the tracking code or setdomainname example.com. Apply filters etc and then setup profiles for each subdomain? Hope this makes sense. Thanks.
