Google Analtyics during site redesign
-
Hi,
We will be launching a new redesign for our website. There will be new URLs and navigation and almost everything (except for static pages like about and contact) will be different.
The overwhelming opinion seems to say that it's important to keep the same Google Analytics profile. How can we compare the past URLs to the new ones if they are completely different.
Does anyone have any experience in this? Did you create any segmentation?
Thanks

Amelia,
I like the content grouping idea. That's what I call thinking out of the box!
-
We redesigned two websites, moved one to a new domain... And kept the same analytics accounts for both sites. To see the same page across two urls (old and new) I use content grouping in GA. It won't let you compare one with the other, but it does show a continuation of traffic (and other metrics) for a particular piece of content.
Using page titles can work so long as they stay the same (ours didn't, so this wouldn't work for us).
To compare, you can simply use the advanced filters to filter out just the urls you wish to compare.
After a while though, you probably won't be comparing much with the old version, especially if there is no chance of you reverting back to it.
Hope this helps?
Amelia

Hey Matt,
Thanks for the answer, do you think advanced segmentation would make it more clear?

Interesting, I wonder if there will be anything else that you can't view in a few more months...

Hi - Great question sure to get everyone thinking - I have worked on projects where it has been necessary to compare old URLs to new even though they were completely different. The one thing however that was the same was the page titles - there was data collected on the old URLs and the new URLs for this. It was easy to go to Behaviour > Site Content > All Pages and set the secondary dimension to page titles and click on the page title column to order by page title. This will place URLs with the same page title next to each other. You can then download in csv for further analysis/comparison. However the one thing that this relies upon is not changing your page titles....
Hope this helps!

My company relaunched our website about 10 days ago. We kept the same Google Analytics profile and I can still see past URL's and data. I just took a peek back at June 2014.
I have noticed I am unable to go back and review site speed and user experience. It only shows reports for the new pages.
It looks to me as if it is just a matter of sorting by an past period. Just one experience!

Misconfigured event tracker on a site
I'm on the case to diagnose an unnaturally low bounce rate, as in under 2%. Yes, the site has two Universal analytics tags, but Google says that would not compromise data (https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1032400?hl=en). So I am trying to figure out how to look at event tracking to see if there is a configuration error. But, I am not a developer so am unsure how to review and would welcome the help of the Moz community. The site is http://corsa.com if you wish to take a peek. Thanks!

Are RSS fees tracked by Google Analytics?
In both the new GA and former version, how are RSS feeds handled by Google Analytics. If not, is there an easy means by which to account for this traffic, in order to have a better picture of traffic. Thanks. Alan

Google Product Feed help
Hello, We are working with a particular service that uses our Google product feed to pull information. We wanted to add product info such as dimensions and hex colors for each product to better service the third party we are using, but we not sure if this is something Google supports in their feed. Would it cause any problems if we added that info in? Thanks for any help! Also, my knowledge regarding a Google product feed is lacking so if the question is confusing or I didn't give enough info on our situation just let me know and I'll do what I can to better explain.

How to find out which URLs are NOT indexed on a site
Is there a way to easily find out which URLs on a store-type site are NOT being indexed in Google? Â For example, if my sitemap information in Google Webmaster tools shows I have 7342 URLs in my sitemap and 5699 of those indexed, how do I find out what the 1643 non-indexed URLS are? Thanks for any help!

No Internal Followed Links on My Site?
I just ran the Site Explorer on my site (myeyedr.com) and it reported that there are no internal links on www.myeyedr.com or myeyedr.com. Â However, there were 20 internal followed links on www.myeyedr.com/index.aspx. I'm guessing this is hurting my SEO. Â Any suggestions?
