A good content calendar/organizer suggestion?

Does anyone have a good content calendar/organizer/software/etc to help plan delivering and pushing out content? I haven't ever used anything other than an actual calendar, and that doesn't seem to help all that much. Is there anything better out there?
Any suggestions would be fantastic!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Asana yet. I've found this tool invaluable when it comes to managing multiple teams (content, development, outreach, etc.) True, it functions very similar to Trello, but I think the format is a bit more intuitive. It always seemed that my Trello calendar was always looking so cluttered... though that could be operator error

Yes, Trello is nice. Someone who knows about me being a scatterbrain recommended it. I tried it and liked it, but found it cumbersome to use. So, I figured out a similar way to do it with Google documents and that is what I described above. Lots of people use Trello. It will help you understand the potential of organization.

I, like others, have been using an excel spreadsheet. But you're looking for a shared tool, I recommend taking a look at the following articles that I previously bookmarked for when the need arises:

I'd also consider something as basic as Trello, a simple, portable project management tool that would enable shared tracking of the various phases of content development similar to what EGOL has described.

Agree we use Google Docs - its great for sharing with team members, if you put a due date column and then do a simple formula it can calculate how many days are left, a great way of keeping things on track.

I am usually working on a dozen to two dozen articles at the same time. This is because I am easily diverted from one project to another. But have found that I do the best work when I go with whatever energy is hot in my mind. I need project management software for the scatterbrain.
Articles can hang for months without being touched because I hit something difficult, need props for photos, need to travel for photos, graphics are being made, license/permissions, these things eventually get done and these delays almost always result in a better product.
So, I have a master spreadsheet in a google document that tracks each step of the content preparation job. Each row in the spreadsheet is a page of content, and the columns are the various jobs that must be done for each of them. I can tell at a glance what is missing or needed for any article.
Column headings include: research, mind map, writing, photography, graphics, posting to html, online review, spell check, editing, tag checking, publish to the homepage, announce to subscribers, incorporate into category pages, locate places to link internally, monitor analytics (change thumbnails or graphics of not performing).
Some of those jobs are done by me, some are done by an employee who is here daily, some is done by a part time employee who works irregularly, some are outsourced. The spreadsheet puts all of this in order and makes sure that important jobs are not skipped.
I also create a google document for each page of content and share with an employee who does photos, graphics and creates the html pages. That is where I compose <title><description> and author the article. The employee prepares the images and adds them to this document. I write captions for each image. When everything is finished a pdf of this page goes to an offsite editor, when it comes back I do final adjustments, the employees post the article to the website, a tag checker proofs everything, then we look at the spreadsheet to be sure that all jobs to promote the content have been done.</p></title>

You could try IFTTT.com. It is not a calendar but you coudl set a recipe for whenever you save a document on a folder it pushes it to a blog, twitter or facebook.
You could even combine it with bufferapp.com and google calendar, like it explains here

Is it a good idea to publish a list of players in my industry, including competitors?
I am working with an e-commerce site that does mostly B2B sales in a very commoditized industrial product segment in which very few manufacturers sell direct. It's all done through distributors and resellers, like our site. We don't often win on price, but we do win enough SERP battles to get the visitors and provide great customer service, so we have gained a following and we do compete well for some very large orders. We list several thousand products and in a given month, visitors regularly hit over 1,000 different landing pages. While we make most money from relatively few items, most items are sold only once a year, maybe twice. It's a very longtail business, and therefore tough to do a great job optimizing all pages down the tail. So, one thing I'm doing is building out a set of resource pages with common questions, terminology and other useful bits so the site gains more traffic and authority, in the hope of boosting product pages. e.g., an in-depth category definition in the glossary could link to all the items in a category. In addition to adding content that augments product pages, I'd like to create basically a map of the whole industry, including brand name manufacturers, white label manufacturers, distributors, etc. If it's going to be a truly comprehensive list, it should include my competitors. Given that I have never found such a list, it feels like this could be a good page and earn some links. Since it's unlikely much traffic will even find that page, compared to product pages, are there potential pitfalls I should be aware of? I get the feeling if I create a page that others bookmark and visit when hunting for products in our market, we win, even if most visitors to that page won't buy from us. I've been in this industry for four years now, and it's amazing how hard it is to find some companies. Only a handful even think about SEO, since they sell through other channels. Should I link to all my competitors (which is only about a dozen) among hundreds of other industry links?

Where to add content
Hello, In looking at GA for a client, his top 100 landing pages are all category pages with only a slight amount of articles and product pages. We haven't added content to the product pages, we just rewrote descriptions for unique content. They are about 100-200 words per product. Does that mean we should focus on adding content to category pages first? We're thinking of totaling 500 words or so (though less sometimes) of quality content to category pages. Your recommendations?

Duplicate content problem
Hi, i have a serious problem. I work in joomla and sometimes it can be annoying. When you set up a category, you need to give it a name and maybe this is a huge error on my part as i did not really think about the names beforehand. The situation i have now is, all my sections are in front page mode, but because you have to name the categories in order to write articles, i am now left with a load of blog sections such as http://www.in2town.co.uk/benidorm/benidorm-news Now i have a main section called Benidorm news so i have duplicate sections, i want to know if i can redirect the http://www.in2town.co.uk/benidorm/benidorm-news to go to the main benidorm section or if there is a better way of doing it. i have left this blod layout the way it is to show you, but the others i just have it where it shows the title and then goes to the article. I work in k2 and would be grateful if anyone can let me know the solution to this as semoz is showing that i have many duplicate titles and content many thanks

Evergreen content: Dedicated section or blog posts?
As part of our content strategy we are creating an ongoing series of articles to help both our potential buyers and our users learn about our product and improve their knowledge of industry best practices in general. Internally, we've had some debate as to where we should host this content within our site. We've identified two approaches: Series of blog posts Dedicated knowledge section of the website If we go with the first approach, we would created a dedicated section that indexed all the blog posts. If we went with the second, we'd create blog posts for each of the articles announcing their addition. Is there any difference, SEO wise with the two approaches? What would you recommend? Directory Subdomain: Bad or Good?
We are thinking about setting up directory on a subdomain (local.sample.com) with content supplied by DirectoryM. Despite assurances by DM that they are Panda proof, I am uneasy releasing 100's of 1000's of pages at once to the search engines with content that is somewhat limited in value. Even if DM can somehow make these directory pages look a little unique then what they already have out on the internet, I am still scared how a potential spammy subdomain will impact the master domain. The upside to DM is that they can add 1000's of new weekly visitors and they will add 1000's of links to our pages to our master domain to their existing directory sites. What approach would you take here? Is there any risk in trying this out or are my fears unfounded? Would mass linking to the subdomain from the master site impact the master site?
