Does anyone use the Google Custom Search API?
-
What has your experience been like with the API? Do you prefer a rank tracking tool? If so, which one?
API: https://developers.google.com/custom-search/v1/overview

Hi Rachel,
For my in house website I prefer seomoz tool, just you have insert keyword & URL you will get update whenever they update ranking. I like the short summary which they send in email ( how many keyword are ups and how many down). If you want specific tool just for rank checking then I would recommend "Rank Tracker" from SEO powersuite. I like graphical representation historical ranking. You can check ranking in almost all country for most of the search engine. Sorry Rachel, I haven't tried Google API yet.

What to do about one site dominating search results? (multiple pages ranking)?
Anybody have thoughts on dealing with search results where the same site gets listed multiple times? "weebly vs wix" is one example (same site #1-3, repetitive articles, not crazy high authority), but I see this now and then. I know Google likes variety, so it's weird for me to see results like this dominating search results. Thoughts? What gets these sites to take over the top rankings for a specific term? Any way to rise up in this situation, outside of the usual? Any tips on duplicating this kind of success?

Google Listings EMD Bias
I've been looking at 60+ location based searches for the base two months and noticed a big issue I can't explain. I know EMD was hit hard in the general SERPs but it obviously has not effected the location SERPs. The main way I'm finding these situations is by seeing the 7 pack and it shows a site with only a quarter amount of the citations the other sites have and jumps to the top very quickly. It appears to be working because of the EMD bias in the Local SERPs algorithm. From what I understand you are not suppose to add a TLD domain into a G+ listing and then 301 redirect it to your real domain but Google doesn't seem to mind at this point. I'm wondering if this tactic is a valid Local tactic at this time or if, from what I understand, it is a shady tactic that will end up hurting brand and have a strong chance of penalizing the real domain. 2012-12-13_10-45-39.png

Google locations question for organic search...
If you set your Google location to "Dallas, TX" and you do a search for "web design dallas", my client shows up #4. If you change your google location to anywhere else in the US, he is #1. How can I be #1 in Dallas and the US? (My client is not really in Dallas but I didn't want to give away the city, their site, etc)

Competitor with over 100,000 links to duplicate copy ranks well, anyone know why?
One of our competitors has over 100,000 links on Yahoo site explorer, most of them are from pages on their site with duplicate content and they don't seem to have a focus on gaining backlinks, but the site still ranks really well. Can anyone think of a reason why this duplicate content hasn't been penalised by Google?
