How to do a comprehensive SEO Keyword Research
-
Hi,
What are the best tools and techniques to do a comprehensive keyword research on all the relevant search engines?
There are times when there are no stats available on the Google keyword planner tool, in that case what do you suggest?
Thanks

Try the guys over at wordstream.com too...odd site with some understanding needed to parse the answers but yeah, it's a diff source that might help too....

My keyword research normally consists of the Google keyword planner to get an initial list of ideas, the website http://keywordtool.io/ which is great for finding long tail keywords and finally i use Moz's keyword difficulty tool to check how hard it will be to rank for a certain keywords.
Good luck!

Layth,
I have found that the quality of the tool is not necessarily reflected in its cost. Generally speaking, tools you pay for have more in-depth metrics or have special reports that you can use moving forward. That being said, some of my favorite tools are free to use.
For keyword targeting (in Google), I generally use a combination of the following:
Google Keyword Planner - Search Volume and paid competition levels
Open Site Explorer - Search Volume and accurate organic keyword competition
Uber-Suggest - Creates lists of relevant keyword search termsThis is where I spend most of my time, but there are other tools out there that I use in special circumstances - these 3 will get you off to a solid start, though.
It's all about finding the right approach that is suited to you.
All the best,
Rob

One quick question, Rob.. What exactly is the difference between paid and free tools. Does paid means that the results are more accurate?
If yes what do you use and recommend?

Thanks a lot Rob!
Appreciate it! I often get stuck where there are no stats in google keyword planner tool, I am sure the video would help.

Hello Layth,
There are many different methods and tools for this aspect of SEO. First thing to keep in mind is that the Keyword Planner uses paid monthly search volume as a metric, meaning you aren't getting the full picture using it alone, especially where competition levels are concerned.
All search engines use different algorithms for search results, so you are likely to find that certain strategies that are effective in regards to Google don't pan out so well in Yahoo! or Bing (and vice versa).
Here is a list of free and paid keyword search tools that are effective for one (or several) search engine(s):
http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/
This will allow you to pick and choose between tools that work best for your specific needs (whether you are making lists for clients or targeting your own site specifically).
As far as techniques are concerned, there are different approaches depending on your goals. It depends on if you are looking to provide information to your users, create a lead generation funnel (build a client base), or develop a conversion-oriented approach. All of these things are necessary to some degree or another, it just depends what your goals are and how much focus you want to put into each category.
Keywords for these topics might differ. For example, say you have a client that wants to sell cars:
Information would be search terms related to new or used cars on the market ("best used cars", "2015 cars", "new car models", etc.).
Lead generation would be "best car dealerships (city)" "best new car salesman" "where to buy new cars"
Conversion might be "cost of new car (city)" "buying 2015 (car model) (city)" or something like that.
At the end of the day, you have to consider which of these approaches is likely to suit both you and your customers best. Research keywords that you think your customers would use if they were looking for your product, and try to convert those leads. Getting lots of traffic by targeting high-volume keywords is no use if you aren't converting them.
To deal with both volume and conversion there is always the option of acquiring a consultant to help you devise a keyword research strategy, although some hard work, focus and determination will usually yield some results for you.
Lastly, if there are no stats available on the Keyword Planner, you can try with a different tool or find another set of keywords that will create interest in your (or your client's) product. Rand Fishkin did a nice piece on this exact topic on Friday:
http://moz.com/blog/hacking-keyword-targeting-whiteboard-friday
Go over that video and see if there are some useful tips you can take away to help with building keywords and terms to target.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask.
All the best,
Rob

Any keyword tools to do this?
Hi, I'm looking for a tool which can pull keyword idea data from Google Keyword Planner at landing page level for multiple URLs at once. Right now with Google Keyword Planner you can only manually do one URL at once. Which will give you 800 keywords. I'm looking to pull landing page keyword ideas for about 10 URLs at once, so in total i should get about 8,000 keywords. Any tools which can automate this with Google Keyword Planner? Cheers.

How do I use Google Keyword in onsite seo?
Hello to all, I wanted to ask if I am doing this correctly. So I own a Bernese mountain dog website I used the google keyword research tools to view keyword ideas. I listed my results below. So my questions are: 1 - Bernese Mountain Dog Puppies (the keyword) blow away the other keywords. So when you are looking at your sites most popular keywords, do you make the most popular keyword your homepage? Because it gets the most link juice? Like would you build the homepage around the best keyword instead of branding - like the company name etc? Or does it matter? Basically just as long as you use it for one page? 2 - When you have keywords that have parts of other keywords, is it safe to use the longer keyword because it has parts of the other phrases? Such as Bernese mountain dog puppies for sale is a part of Bernese mountain dog puppies for sale in Colorado. So if you use bernese mountain dog puppies for sale in Colorado, it will also hit the bernese mountain dog puppies for sale? ( without the In Colorado) What type of strategy would you use for this type of situation? 3- Lastly, and thank you for your time - I watched a video from a grey hat seo guy. He said to take a keyword or phrase like say Colorado home builders, create a page like example.com/Colorado-home-builders/ Then make you h1 tag - The Best Colorado Home Builders Add The Best Colorado home builders to your meta description and one more time in your h2 tag Then create a Bold, and italic The Best Colorado Home Builders in your unique content paragraphs. So my question is - is this grey hat and bad? Or the standard? I do not want to get hit for over optimizing. So just wanted to ask you opinion first. In the end, I truly thank you for taking the time to read my questions. I appreciate everyone's help and greatly appreciate your knowledge. So my results look like this | bernese mountain dog puppies | 590 | Low | $0.45 | 1% | |
Keyword Research | | Berner
| bernese mountain dog puppies for sale | 90 | High | $0.42 | 9% | |
| bernese mountain dogs | 90 | Low | $0.37 | 0% | |
| bernese mountain dog puppies for sale in colorado | 30 | Medium | $0.76 | 0% | |
| bernese mountain dog breeders in colorado | 20 | Medium | $0.32 | 0% | |
| bernese mountain dogs colorado | 40 | Low | $0.08 | 0% | |
| bernese mountain dog puppy breeders | 10 |0 -
Need a keyword tool for the whole company
I alone cannot do keyword research on all of the online content that my company produces. There are about 10 publishing support teams who could do this research themselves, once trained, but I don't know which tool to suggest they use since they can't all use my MOZ login. Right now, those who do any research at all are using Google Trends. Wrong answer, but of course they are used to Trends for their social campaigns. Has your company dealt with this situation? I've looked at a few free keyword tools...each seems to have its plusses and minusses. **What would you recommend...either as a free tool or possible other workaround? **

Price Comparison Website And Keywords
I run a price comparison website for a small niche at http://cdkeyprices.com I am targeting keywords for the specific products I am comparing the price/merchants on. On a typical page I would have a price column, product name, the merchant and a buy button. Buy button is affiliate linked to the merchant. The product name in the product column is the name from the actual website I am tracking. As such, my keyword was appearing sometimes up the 30 times. I've took it down some months ago but was wondering if this was a bad move. I was concerned Google would think I was stuffing the keyword. I've only just gotten into SEO the past few months so was not able to see any changes. Should i put the product column back up or would it be considered over optimization?

SEO Strategy for a Small Budget
Hi Everyone, I have a considerable amount of clients that have a relatively small budget for SEO and was formulating a new strategy for them. Generally their sites are small < 10 pages, so to get them ranking I was thinking of doing the following: work with the client to choose up to 3 key phrases to target check the competition level of those phrases if they are fairly easy to rank for, pound those phrases to get them ranked. I would still include some variations of the text to get the long-tail phrases or plurals of words, but I was wondering if this would harm their overall rankings. Thanks Eric

Keywords for homepage and product categories
My homepage explains the different electrical equipment our company sells, our main product category page also does the same but in more detail. I'm stuck where I feel the homepage and product category page need to be optimised for the same keyword except the homepage needs to be optimised for our company name too. Was anyone else in the same situation as me and how did you choose the right keyword between two pages that have the same message?
