Need help understanding what happened to our organic search.
-
I help run an ecommerce business that mainly runs on Google organic search (yes, I realize this is not a good place to be). Last April, we saw around 25-30% of our organic search cut. I’m pretty sure it was due to the mobile update but we had some changes in the past month or two before that. I’m looking for someone to review my analytics account and see what happened. Possibly this is called an audit?
Also, we’re looking to ask some questions about long term strategy as we are thinking about a redesign and switching to a new platform.
Maybe more content?
Maybe more social?

Hey big fella - need the url. If we get that can have a quick look at the website.
If not keen to share url on content moz has a great content profiler. If you go to the below link and follow the steps you will get taken on a deep dive of where your content sits and any impact it may have had. .

On social cannot really comment on without inputs, but it would be v unlikely to be source of traffic drop. Unless the prime traffic referral initially.
Perhaps consider a site audit

May identify issues for you. Hope that assists.

It would be very helpful if you could share the URL of your site. Thanks!

Was the organic traffic you lost mobile users? If so then you have found your smoking gun. However, the mobile update only effects mobile search - ie. if you are on a phone, Google is looking to present the best user experience and will promote mobile optimized content first.
However, if your loss was not mobile traffic, there may be a bigger issue. This could be the result of any number of things, including a loss or gain of links (gaining negative links, losing positive ones), an algorithmic penalty, etc.
As for switching to a new platform - make sure you have your redirects in order. Otherwise you may experience a sharp loss of rankings and traffic.
Content - always. Social - you bet. There is no reason why adding useful content and interacting on social media should be neglected!

Google Search Console not loading some resources
When I check an URL with Search Console it cannot load some page resources, even from other domains (like: ssl.google-analytics.com, www.facebook.com and www.google-analytics.com).

Have any of you experienced this issue?
Steps to reproduce: open Google Search Console check an URL click "View crawled page" link select "More info" tab click "Page resources" {?}/{?} couldn't be loaded When I check the listed resources, all of them can be loaded from a web browser.
So I do not understand why Google cannot load them.
And there is no additional info why the resources could not be loaded.

Search traffic hit after switching magazine to subdomain
Hi there, I'm fairly new at all of this and would appreciate any help with understanding why our website has taken a hit in traffic. We curate an online magazine, which was previously accessible through: forensicoutreach.com. It was receiving about 2,000+ unique visitors per day up until a week ago, when we changed a few things. However, the magazine doesn't reflect what our business does, so we created a product-focused web presence on forensicoutreach.com, and moved the magazine (which everyone loved) to library.forensicoutreach.com (DA 37, PA 1). We thought separating the properties was a good idea, but now I'm not so sure. Our traffic on library.forensicoutreach.com is 1,500 (so 500 less than usual!) and our main property has about 56 unique visits a day. It's pretty substantial. A few questions: 1. If we move the library to forensicoutreach.com/library, will that make any difference? 2. Where did we go wrong here and how can we fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No Search Data in Google Search Console (Search Analytics)
Wondering if anyone has experienced 0 data in their Google Search Console (Search Analytics) and found possible solutions to retrieve data? We have a few clients who, prior to the update to Google Search Console, were getting data regularly in terms of the Search Queries report, but ever since the update to Google Search Console, they are no longer receiving data. As an FYI, both the www and non-www versions of the website are verified in Search Console and the XML Sitemaps and Robots.txt files are clean, tested and working fine. Any insights or experience of sites showing 0 data in Search Analytics? Any possible solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Having Issue with Site Search in Analytics
Hi Mozzers, We launched a website in October 2012 and have added in the settings(Google analytics) of that profile "Do Track Site Search" since we have a search box on the website. The site search report worked for 10 days and it was over(from end of december till beginning of January 2013). Since then I have been trying to understand this issue. I have added all the query search terms possible, but still not showing any signs of life. At this point I am not sure what to do? Some Help would be appreciated! Search URL= subdomain.example.com**/search/node/**.... Thanks! z93cGUZ.png

A switch from Search to Direct traffic from Feb 2012
I have read about the Google algorithm updates galore in 2012. I would therefore be inclined to suspect a sudden sharp drop in Search traffic this year to be caused by such updates. However, I am seeing what appears to be a direct switch from 'Search' to 'Direct' traffic as of about February 16th this year. There are no specific brand-building exercises or general advertising campaigns happening around this time for the site in question. It seems very UN-explainable? I wondered if there are any thoughts from the various lurking gurus? I have attached GA screenshot.. DjTu1.png

Google Analytics Site Search to new sub-domain
Hi Mozzers, I'm setting up Google's Site Search on a website. However this isn't for search terms, this will be for people filling in a form and using the POST action to land on a results page. This is similar to what is outlined at http://support.google.com/analytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1012264 ('<a class="zippy zippy-collapse">Setting Up Site Search for POST-Based Search Engines').</a> However my approach is different as my results appear on a sub-domain of the top level domain. Eg.. user is on www.domain.com/page.php user fills in form submits user gets taken to results.domain.com/results.php The issue is with the suggested code provided by Google as copied below.. Firstly, I don't use query strings on my results page so I would have to create an artificial page which shouldn't be a problem. But what I don't know is how the tracking will work across a sub-domain without the _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', '.domain.com']); code. Can this be added in? Can I also add Custom Variables? Does anyone have experience of using Site Search across a sub-domain perhaps to track quote form values? Many thanks!
