Hi Guys,
i'm considering to prevent Google to crawl all the images on a webshop (3,432), because a the amount of pages that have to me crawled. Will this affect any search results?
Thanks!

Agree with Thomas - based on the number you give , your site doesn't seem that big. Blocking 3500 images will not change a lot, and it will rather have a negative impact (think about image search).
You might want to check this post on crawl optimisation before taking a decision like that.
Hope this helps,
DIrk

Hi
As a whole images are good and unless you are doing something unhelpful like using duplicate images stolen images etc.
Then keeping Images in Google's index will help especially if using alt text and correctly named will boost your rankings.
it sounds like you have figured out that your crawl budget is being exhausted and you're not seeing Google index your site properly?
The URL below a larger photo of the one below showing the type of data I hope you have before making this decision Can you tell me how you cut to this conclusion the images should be removed?

Can you tell me more about the method in which you determined Google is not indexing your entire site?
I can only tell you what to do if I know more about what is wrong.
strongly recommend you view this slide deck if you would like to know more about your site I can run it on Deep crawl for you.

Any Advice for Image SEO?
I have a client who is very concerned about reputation management ... Google his name and some very provocative photos show up in Google Images. There are a couple of semi-famous people who share his name, and my plan is to backlink their images that currently rank positions 50 - 100 to try and push them up. Should I backlink the page that contains the image or the image itself? Any other recommendations?

Would you recommend changing image file names retroactively?
We'll be optimizing file names moving forward, but it hasn't been done in the past. I have probably 1,500 that would need to be changed, so want to make sure it's a valuable use of time/worth the effort. 🙂 Also, has anyone used Media File Renamer for wordpress? Seems this would be a good way to rename files without needing to reupload everything. Thanks!

Images not being indexed by Google
Greetings, we have an image heavy site (it's a fashion blog that is over 11 years old) and for some reason our images aren't being indexed by google. We've looked at the robot.txt, CDN (we're using cloudfont via Amazon), etc as well as searched google webmaster. We still can't figure it out. None of the images on our pages are being indexed. Any help you could provide would be GREATLY appreciated Site: http://www.thebudgetfashionista.com Sitemap: http://www.thebudgetfashionista.com/sitemap_index.xml Image sitemap: http://www.thebudgetfashionista.com/sitemap-image.xml

Google Places Images
Hi, i recently added a image to google places listing uploaded via the google places dashboard. It was uploaded about 3-4 weeks ago. The image is exactly 1024x1024 in size. I'm not sure whether google is not displaying it because its too big, or because it takes a while for google to start showing images for places listing. I was reading it can take up to 6 weeks. I don't want to have to wait 6 weeks, then find out the reason why the picture wasn't uploaded was because it was too big. Any suggestions on how i can find out which one is the case? Thanks, Matt

Blocking Google From Accessing Our Images - SEO Impact
We recently discovered that we were blocking Google from crawling our cdn, cdn.yournextshoes.com, where all our images are hosted. Unfortunately this went on for several months, and I wonder if this could explain our horrible SEO performance. Basically, I would like to know if this has impacted just our performance in Google Images (obviously our images have not been picked up by Google Images), or if our regular SEO has been impacted as well.Right now we're just receiving around 13% of our traffic from search, so we're trying to find out why Google does not like us.

WordPress image file names SEO question
I’m using a plugin to upload images directly from Adobe Lightroom to WordPress and while the process is very convenient it adds “wpid-“ to the beginning of every image file name, so my “seo-friendly-image-title.jpg” becomes “wpid-seo-friendly-image-title.jpg”. The plugin author claims that it’s a WordPress thing and there isn’t anything he can do about it, yet it doesn’t happen when using the same plugin to upload to the NextGen Gallery Plugin instead of the built in WordPress media manager. I’m not really a fan of NextGen though so I’d rather use the built in WordPress media management. This is obviously an SEO forum not a WordPress troubleshooting forum, but I wanted to give a bit of background. My question is whether that “wpid-” at the beginning of all my image file names is going to cause any sort of SEO issue. If not, I won’t worry about it, but if it does I’ll have to either find another plugin or just go back to exporting from Lightroom to the desktop and then uploading through WordPress. Thanks in advance for any input.

Asking Robots to Crawl? Does this really work?
Curious, we have a competitor on one of our sites and they have the following code. Can't figure out how they are beating us, thought this might be it. Or perhaps its because they have an older copyright on their site?

H1 image
Hi, I was talking to a web consultant today that teaches SEO, he said that an image is ok as an h1 tag as long as it has an alt tag. This is something new to me and something that I've always tried to avoid. Does this now work? Thanks
