What's your preference - regurgitate content on social media or just post it the once?
-
Hi All,
Not been on the forums for a while and this isn't really an SEO question.
How do you feel about Twitter feeds that constantly regurgitate the same content. It's pretty much industry standard on most pages but if the content is yours, no affiliates or other people are involved - is it really necessary to plug the same 500 word blog post over and over?
Personally, I don't like it. I think it looks spammy and unprofessional and in all honesty, I unfollow pages regularly because of it.. What do you guys think? Am I squandering content by not regurgitating?
Happy Monday all - Jamie

Tweets have such a short shelf life that it is worth posting a few times for really great content, to make sure you reach the maximum audience. To avoid annoying your followers, try:
- Posting at different times, on different days to reach people via their behaviour (ie some people will always check twitter over breakfast, others when they're bored in the afternoon. We tend to be people of habit. Consider time zones if you have an international audience).
- Look at your content and think of a new angle for it. Try writing 3 different titles for it, for example - and then each of those headlines essentially becomes its own tweet.
- Use different types of media - try one text-only tweet, one image-only tweet, one combination of the two.

Thanks Matt, some good points to consider.
I think due to our following being relatively small and the fact it's a pretty select UK only audience, they don't tend to like it. We re-shared something twice in the same day for the first time in months and sure enough, we lost a few followers. Fickle bunch I do think we could get more out of of the blog though, so more testing to be done!
Cheers,

In my opinion, it depends on the network. A tweet, for example, is said to have a total lifespan of 18-24 minutes; if a follower doesn't see it during that window, it's extremely likely they simply won't see it. For any Moz Blog or YouMoz post, we'll tweet a total of 12 times over six days—once each AM and once each PM, never tweeting the same hour twice. Posts for other sorts of content vary.
Of course, our social following is massive and globe-spanning, so a tweet during business hours where we're located in Seattle, WA, USA is unlikely to be seen by any of our UK followers, for example. I'd recommend testing your own post frequency to see what works best for your audience.

Thanks for the reply John.
I agree with you and you're on point about Moz up-skilling us. I might focus on updating our seasonal blog posts before I share them again - good shout.
Have a good one!

I think each post should be considered on its merits.
Some posts become topical 12 months after you have written them. A good post, if it has relevance today is worth re-publishing. So in my view do not be hamstrung by rules, if you think the post is relevant today... then re-publish.. Often we see a greater number of hits on re-posts especially for emerging sites. Similarweb is a classic for re-publishing old blogs.. and turning readers off. Moz however is the essence of perfection, as being mature they never do... if so only updated to upskill us..
Hope that assists.

Glad you agree Tim.
Time relevance and importance are my main focus when it comes to re-sharing. I'm not completely against it and I love to see clicks go through the roof with a well times re-share - just glad I'm not the only one who finds the constant sharing annoying.
You can lead a horse to water...

I tend to agree.
I too do not like it when you see the same copy, over and over again. Although on the other hand I do feel that reposting some content still does have its benefits providing it is done sparingly and not in a repetitive fashion (normally months apart). I try to consider any new followers and sometimes, providing the content is useful, may try and highlight a particularly important or time relevant article again.
Flooding people with the same content all the time will lead to a healthy number of lost followers and potential influencers leaving your social channels.

If you post on two Twitter accounts could be rated as duplicate content
I have a personal Twitter account which is building up, but I also have a Twitter account for my holiday letting agency and until now I’ve always separated the subject of the tweets and links to my websites but I’m using Buffer which automates your tweets in advance and so I included some of the links to my business holiday letting agency articles on my personal account and people seem to like them and have shared them, but is there any risks to doing that regarding duplicate type of content? At the end of the day some the people on my personal Twitter will be interested in my agency tweets about holiday accommodation, I just want to do anything which could be termed spam.

Monitor Social Traffic
SocialAppsHQ has revised their pricing plans. https://www.socialappshq.com/home/pricing?utm_medium=email&utm_source=pricechange We have been using both their Apps and Social Monitoring. The Apps has worked pretty well for us and the revised pricing will actually be cheaper for us, so I'll likely continue with that feature. As for the Social Monitoring, perhaps I'm not using it effectively, but I get notice of social traffic too late to be really useful. To help generate viral lift in Twitter, for example, I need to be notified within an hour or so that someone has mentioned our product. If I am notified eight hours after the original tweet, then many on the east coast are already asleep and I can't retweet effectively until the next day, and it looses impact when the discussion is cold. Also, the revised pricing makes this feature much more expensive for us. What services can you recommend that will give us rapid notification of search phrases on FB and Twitter? Best,

Distributing of Viral Content
Hi, have a question on the distribution of content. Let say you have written awesome content, with great visuals, etc which is designed to go viral. Your site is relatively new - not many social media followers, DA authority, or natural traffic. What would be a good process of distributing that content - getting the content out there so it has the best chance and ability to go viral and generate links. So far i have: Use press releases to distribute that content, using a distribution service like: prnewswire.com. Hope its picked up by a news site or something. Contact Facebook Pages or Twitter Pages who have a large audience of the type of people who would be interested in the content. Ask them if they can share the content. Content sites related to the content, and ask them to share it with their users (Give them a incentive e.g. money, a gift, etc) I think number 1 would yield the best possible results in getting actual sites linking to you. 2 and 3 are more designed for people (who very few would have blogs) to read the content. Any other suggestions, i'm missing out on? Thanks, Matt

Social Media and Local Search results
Hello, I have profiles in several social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. When I search with my name on google.com the profiles are showing on the first page, but when I do a local search, the profiles start showing in the end of the second page. I'm very active in my social media profiles, and I don't know why is this happening. How long does it take for the profiles to show on the first page in local search? Can I do anything to speed up the process?

Sherpas for a journey of best practices for social media marketing?
What are early-stage (0-6 months) best practices for social media marketing in a business to business market? Our customers are professional buyers of electronic components. We are doing it backwards. We registered Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and a few more. +5 for initiative. -5 for not having a social media marketing plan. -5 for not having someone helping us who really knows how to engage with our audience. This is also a humble request to SMM gurus out there who have room for a new client. I'm looking for our sherpa. Thanks!

Social mentions and 301 to new domain
Hi all, I have noticed that when moving to a new domain your normal links will move along with you when you set proper 301 redirects and use google webmaster tools. But I'm under the impression your twitter mentions, fb likes etc. on the different pages will be lost... I'm looking forward to your comments and ideas. Cheers

I can't see the new Facebook Insights.
Is anyone else having trouble seeing the new Facebook Insights page? If I click on Insights I get a message at the top that says, "Take me to the new Page Insights" but if I click on it it does nothing. Apparently people are "talking about me" and I can't see the new stats!
