Sudden drop in rankings over 7 days
-
Hello fellow SEOs,
I am having a few issues with one of the sites I manage. The site in question has dropped for a number of terms in the last 7 days, including:
- logo design - dropped 2 places, now 19th
- logo design uk - dropped 2 places, now 8th
- logo designer - dropped 3 places, now 20th
- bespoke logo design - dropped 3 places, now 10th
I'm worry that the site might drop for more terms if I just leave it alone. I haven't made any changes to the site but I have noticed that our number of inbound links has increased by 58% in the last 7 days.
I have put the site through OSE and used the spam analysis tool. There's only one domain linking to my client that has an orange spam flag but this link isn't newly acquired.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
There was a Google Update Quality in June, so this update may have been impacted your rankings.

Hi Andy,
Yes, I heard about the local pack ads. Can't blame Google though, it's a good business opportunity from their perspective.
I will monitor the rankings closely and watch for any further drops. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen!
Thanks for your help.

That sounds very likely Matt. As we know, Google is doing a lot more with local results now. We now have to contend with 4 ads and then a local pack. Wait until we get the ads in the local pack as well!
With it only being fairly minimal drops, I think you would have to also take into account that it might not be what you are doing, but what other sites have done. If any other sites have done a big push, it might just have pushed you down a little. Always a difficult call that one though, but I do see it a lot.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the reply.
The software we use takes a few days to update and the last update was 06/07/16 (UK date format). When looking at movements over the last 30 days it still shows that rankings are down over this period.
Interestingly, it was around a month ago that I changed the page title of the homepage and inner landing pages to be location specific.
However, the rankings for more general terms "logo design" and "logo design uk" did increase in rank after making this change, it's only now that they have decreased again.
The site now occupies position 1 on the organic SERP and position 1 in the local pack for "logo design london". Could it be that the reshuffle is due to the location based changes?
EDIT: Sorry, I should also add that we use Analytics SEO to see link acquisition. I believe it gathers data from Majestic SEO and Search Console.
Thanks
Matt

Hi,
With just 2-3 places, do you feel this is anything more than just daily fluctuation, or are positions creeping even further down?
What are you using to see new links? OSE isn't always doing to be able to capture new links so quickly. How much focus is given to the page content?

Are domain variations hurting our rank?
Hi, I have a client who registered many different variations of their domain name, that are pointing to the website. Now I see that many high value links are not linking to the main domain, but a hyphen variation. So when the main domain is something like www.brandservicename.com The links go to www.brand-service-name.com I suppose they should change all those links (if possible), but does it really make a difference? Thank you!

My Website Ranking is terribly drop
So sorry I really need your all help 😞 I'm really frustrated and stressed. For my website http://www.cma-academy.edu.sg , it has been ranking on Google 1st page (with the keywords "design course/design courses") for the past over 6 months and the traffic was really good... But it has been almost 2 months since the big drop... my ranking all is gone in just a week and now it's even not on the top 50.. While my competitors websites are stand stil. 😞 I seriously really want to cry because of this.. And I'm sure there is nothing much wrong with my SEO to be abandoned by Google like this and Google still index my webpage, but the crawling rate is so much slow than before.. I really need some help from the expert, especially from seomoz.. Please help me in this, I'm willing to answer any questions as well...

Why is this site ranking so good?
Site in question: http://bit.ly/aBvVbm Our main competitor in the UK seems to be ranking extremely good for the keyword "jigsaw puzzles" even though their linking profile doesn't seem all that great? They mainly have site-wide links on 2 of their other ecommerce sites which seem to be given them their ranking power as this equals to 100's of links. Does sitewide links on 2 sites really give this much ranking power or am I missing something?

What caused my huge drop in search ranking?
On February 8th, 2012 my site's non-branded search traffic dropped overnight by over 80%. It appears I've been hit by a Google penalty. I submitted a reconsideration request and one of Google's staff replied letting me know it was NOT a manual penalty. So it's clearly a result of an algorithm. What is the cause? I haven't made significant changes to the website in the previous months do to being out of the country and the holidays. I'm extremely careful not to out source SEO so there is no chance of questionable link building strategies, unless my competitor launched an attack on my site. I've considered these possible causes: Duplicate content - My site had some redundancy from a marketing plan before Google Panda launched. Last month, I removed all duplicate content. Unnatural link building - I've been moving slowly my site, page by page, from adbio.com to bioworldusa.com after a brand change. Perhaps the 301 redirects triggered a flag in Google's algorithm. I've since removed all redirects to see if that will fix the issue. Poor User Experience - I recently upgraded my Drupal CMS and had to change themes. Currently my theme is an ugly, grey theme which may cause a higher than usual bounce rate. I've been trying to compensate by making sure the content is high quality. The penalty affected these website: www.bioworldusa.com (2/8/12) blog.bioworldusa.com (2/8/12) www.adbio.com (2/17/12)

Domain authority and rankings?
I have a site that sits in #1 position for its keywords right now. But it only got there about 1mth ago. The site is only about 6mths old with lots of link building. I check the domain authority and its only 37/100 with the #2, #3 sites having domain authority of 57 and 82 respectively. This site has like 800+ backlinks. While the #2 and #3 sites have 20,000+ backlinks. Does it mean that my site will LIKELY drop in rankings very soon? I know there is no certainty but wld you say that it is highly probable my site will drop?

Unsure of sudden dramatic drop for target keyword(s)
Even after studying the latest Panda algorithm, which frowns upon templated looks (kind of odd), I have been doing some thorough research trying to find out why a site I have been optimizing plummeted. It was hovering around 10, and fell to 37 in one to two weeks. After I read all about the Panda update, I assumed it was that. But the site falls in line and shouldn't be affected. I used that 3rd party duplicate content checker and the content checked out okay. I looked on my SEO Pro campaign and noticed that the on-page report got an A grade, hitting on all factors except having the keyword in the URL. So, I have a site that loads in good time and should be fairly well optimized, and falls in line from what I can tell with Google's guidelines, which I read through. So why the drop? I'm not saying this site is 100% perfect couldn't be any better, optimized to the hilt. It was designed a few years ago, but still, I am just having a hard time finding out why this site got slammed the way it did. www.spineandsportschiro.com Target Keyword(s) Roseville Chiropractor Roseville Chiropractic I welcome any on-page critiques, but mostly would like to know where to look or have some kind of insight to why the rankings dropped, so I can try and fix them the right way. Thank you,
