Entire subfolder not ranking.
-
I'm currently running an ecommerce site on which an entire subfolder namely the: /category/ extension is not ranking for any keywords. The category pages are being indexed within Google.
Pages with very similar content are however being ranked for keywords on extensions such as /pages/, I created a new page to test this and within a week it was ranking for the keywords where /category/ pages have not for months.
I was wondering if anyone had come across this issue before and had any solutions or suggestions? Thanks.

James, if you could give the URL of the category folder and an example of the pages ranking, I can have a look at it to see if something was wrong. Without that, it would be hard to take a call as this is not a standard issue.

Referring domain: https://cashforscrapcarsydney.com.au/ Earlier the domain was in the format: https://www.cashforscrapcarsydney.com.au/ But when I checked the search result, search engines had not yet crawled to the new format. Let me know if the server change or any algorithm hit might cause it. Also please share the feedback on - does removing www from the domain losses keyword ranking. Helpful replies are needed.0 -
Stolen Content reposted on other sites. How does this affect ranking?
Visitors often copy and paste my content and post it elsewhere... on Facebook, on Tumblr, on forums and sometimes on competing websites... but they don't link to me. How does Google treat this duplicated content? What is the best way to handle it? File DCMA claims or ask them for a link?

Removing entire site sections categories from an ecommerce store, best practices ?
Hi Whats best practice when removing entire site sections from an e-commerce store due to ending those lines and not having similar alternative pages to redirect them too ? Should you remove pages in GWT etc ? Any other measures to prevent probs such as 404 spikes etc ?? Cheers Dan

Losing Page Rank after 301 redirect from http to www
Hi Guys I have site-wide redirected all http// to www and all the category pages lost their page ranks (except home page). I would like to know if this is normal and is it one of the possible causes in losing keyword ranking?

Do a lot of related articles in lower subfolders, boost higher level subfolder keywords?
For instance www.example1.com/cooltopic/ has 5 ‘verycool articles’ under /cooltopic/ www.example1.com/cooltopic/verycool-article1/ , www.example1.com/cooltopic/verycool-article2/. On www.example2.com/cooltopic/ there are 100 ‘verycool articles’ Who will rank above the other for the term ‘cooltopic’ in the SERPS? Is it www.example1.com with 5 ‘verycool articles’ or www.example2.com with 100 ‘verycool articles’. Or does the quantity of (theme related) articles in subfolders not matter? And what if example1.com has more quality external links from the ‘awesome community’. Would this change a lot in the rankings? Or what if both domains have 0 external links, but example2.com has 95 more internal links (from the articles) to /cooltopic/ than example1.com with only 5 articles.

How to rank on yelp
I'm sure there isn't an easy answer to this, but I know very little about Yelp and we want to be listed and listed well. Any suggestions?

Dropped rankings due to too many links, help needed
We have just re-designed our site and added a big drop-down navigation menu to help users get straight to the category/sub-category they are looking for, take a look at http://www.discountfiresupplies.co.uk to see what I mean. Since doing so our rankings have dropped which we've been told may be because there are now so many links on (particularly) the home page diluting the rankings of that page. We've been advised that if we hide the drop-down menus using "style='display: none'" until they are required that the search engines will ignore them which we have now done but is this correct or will they still be indexed? And if so do you have any other suggestions? Thanks, Tariq
