Gradual Increase in Domain Authority After Domain Migration But No Improvement in Organic Traffic Yet
-
We migrated our domain in early April and simultaneously added an SSL certificate. Everything was done by the books. All redirects implemented perfectly, very few errors. Google notified via Search Console.
Despite all steps being done perfectly our domain authority dropped from 24 to 8. Organic traffic dropped from about 80 per day to about 10.
Each month domain authority increases by 2 or 3. We are now back up to a DA of 16. But no improvement in organic traffic yet. At what point should organic traffic start to return? Hopefully the consistent improvement in DA is a good sign. I have been told that adding SSL and moving the domain at the same time was a very bad idea.
We are starting link building next week. Hopefully that will help further. Any ideas as to when this situation will improve? Needless to say it has been awful for our business.

Have your keyword rankings changed? As Sean pointed out, it appears that at least some of them currently look decent. If your rankings are where they were before but your traffic has decreased, are you sure that traffic that you lost wasn't bot traffic?

Hi Chris:
We migrated the exact, identical content from domain name "A" to domain name "B". No on site optimization was done at the time. We did file a disavow file for some very spammy links at the time of the migration.
We are planning on launching a design upgrade next month (4 months after the domain change). In the meantime we will focus on link building.
But is the gradual improvement in domain authority a sign that the site is recovering; that organic traffic will return eventually?
We depend on this site for lead generation so this is a serious issue.
Thanks, Alan

Since it seems like this migration (what did you migrate your domain from and what did you migrate it to?) was well planned, it seems like you would have been versed in how long these things can take in Google. 3 months? Not really that long, actually. Did you do any optimization at the same time? If you did, (not that you should overlap such things) that could add to your down t time. Best plan of attack at this point--give it another three months and find something else to occupy your time other than you domain. That link building best be top notch.

Ok,
I looked at your page for one of your top ranked keywords 3rd place for "Class A Office Buildings NYC" If you took 1st in that you'd be getting substantially more organics. The competition really doesn't appear too tough to beat, with a slight boost in your content I think many of your keywords you could improve your ranking and dramatically increase your monthly Google referrals. I didn't notice videos or a Youtube social link, but I noticed Youtube embeds boost rankings slightly and also improve the user experience and total visit times.
Additionally you could take all your Youtube content and gain from 3 other media sites by uploading them to Twitch.tv Vimeo, and Daily Motion as well. Your on site looked very solid, I didn't check the accuracy of your directory listings, but I saw Google Business present in the local results so I assume as solid as your on site is, you probably already handled the directories.! So ya, videos will help out quite a bit!

Will Reduced Bounce Rate, Increased Pages/Session, Increased Session Duration-RESULT IN BETTER RANKING?
Our relaunched website has a much lower bounce rate (66% before, now 58%) increased pages per session (1.89 before, now 3.47) and increased session duration (1:33 before, now 3:47). The relaunch was December 20th. Should these improvements result in an improvement in Google rank? How about in MOZ authority? We have not significantly changed the content of the site but the UX has been greatly improved. Thanks, Alan

Handling alternate domains
Hi guys, We're noticing a few alternate hostnames for a website rearing their ugly heads in search results and I was wondering how everyone else handles them. For example, we've seen: alt-www.(domain).com test.(domain).com uat.(domain).com We're looking to ensure that these versions all canonical to their live page equivalent and we're adding meta robots noindex nofollow to all pages as an initial measure. Would you recommend a robots.txt crawler exclusion to these too? All feedback welcome! Cheers, Sean

Company Rebranded - Domain/Page Authority Question
Our company rebranded, our old domain has pretty good PA and DA. Any way to utilize our old domain to boost PA/DA of our new domain? PS - Both are hosted on the same host (same IP).

Ranking Above sub-domains
So I work for a company that has a very successful affiliate that operates under a third level domain name such as "region.company.com". Their SEO practices are very good and they rank highly in keyword searches. However "company.com" does not even though it is not a subdomain. Even after optimizing the company.com's pages etc, the regional sub domain ranks much higher for keywords and the main company fails to rank at all. Is Google discounting the main company's page? Is it a matter of trust or time? or is it something else? How can I get Google to prioritize the main company website rather than a lower level domain affiliate?

Drop in traffic after redesign
Is it common for a site to see slight traffic drops after a site redesign (containing cleaner code, more usability and basically just being more helpful for the end user)? A new site of ours went live last Wednesday and has experienced a drop in traffic. If you have seen this in your own site, how did you recover? And how long did the recovery take?

Root domain or sub domain? WWW. or NOT WWW......
I am a little confused! I use vidahost whom I have to say I find very helpful. I currently have the domains www.fentonit.co.uk and www.fentonit.com, now the websites was set up using the www.fentonit.com and I have www.fentonit.co.uk as a parked domain pointed to the www.fentonit.com. Confused yet? Now because I wanted the website to show www.fentonit.co.uk I added some code I was given by the guys to the .hta access file and viola up it comes as the .co.uk which is what I wanted. So if your still here and havent A: Killed yourself yet or B: Went to the Pub Then my questions are: 1. Is there going to be an issue from an SEO point of view having my site set up this way and if so how do I resolve it? 2. Would I be better using the root domain fentonit.co.uk (I think this is the root domain, although it iscurrently parked and pointed) as opposed to the sub www domain?.......and finally.......? 3. If it is set up as I stated what exactly would be my root domain, would it be the .co.uk or the .com? Sorry and I completely understand if your not interested in answering it but if you do.....Thanks in advance and I'll take you to the pub...lol Craig www.fentonit.co.uk ( i think)
