Get listed on DMOZ
-
Dear mates,
I was trying to list our site for years with no success, at this time I'm not sure if I trying the correct category or if our site has any issue.
The category is:
http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Shareware/Directories/
Our site is:
freesharewaredepot (dot) com
Can anybody give us any advice.
Thank you
Claudio

I'll do that.
Thank you for all your help

Well, just check every once in a while and see when the page gets updated again. Maybe set a reminder to check once a month. As for the 301s and 404s, there are in-built tools within DMOZ to detect those as well as expired/expiring domains etc and so on.
It's just that sometimes the queue is too long. And since it's volunteer work, there's just not much you can do. I know as an editor of a regional category, I used to have tons and tons of submissions and unless you are spending an hour a day, you can't catch-up and eventually you give up.
The editor for that category has tons and tons of categories he is authorized to edit, which makes me think he is a senior meta editor.
As I said above, DMOZ is not worth thinking too much about. I know it stresses one out, but it's beyond control. Submit It, forget it. Move on

I submit several years ago, also I contacted the editor and no one response, and in my last contact I check the the entire sites listing and I report several 404 (site not found) and even several redirections (301) to sites not related to this category and no one response (thanks for your support).
I think this guy will never list our site.
To be honest if my competitors, even new competitors are listed, my question is why our directory is omitted.

The editor of that category, looks like a very very senior edtor.

Also notice the last update date on this page. When did you submit ?

At first glance I did not see anything that would stop your site from being added to that directory. Double check that you are following the rules here: http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html
If all looks good then the next step may be to become an Editor yourself like I mentioned above. More info can be found here: http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/help/become.html

You are not doing anything wrong with the fact that you are submitting.
Anita's point is, are you submitting the right Title and Description ?
Sometime, that's the key. Editors don't want to spend 5-10 minutes reviewing a listing as well as having to write/edit the Title and Description.
As I said above, I would suggest submitting the listing and forgetting about it. You may get listed tomorrow or you may never get listed. You just never know. That's the nature of DMOZ, the DMOZ of today.
-
Dear Anita,
In including the category: http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Shareware/Directories/
And this is our site:
freesharewaredepot (dot) com
do you see any wrong?
Thank you for your help
-
Dear Nakul,
In your opinion Im doing something wrong?, most of my competitors are listed, and I feel to be listed should be good.
As an Editor could you check my site (honest/critical) why it is not listed?
I'll appreciate your help
Claudio

I am assuming you followed the instructions (any deviation can get your site skipped) so why not volunteer to be a DMOZ Editor and try to get your site added that way? You get the added benefit of helping others who may have been waiting for months/years too.
-
DMOZ over the last couple years has been Submit It and Forget it. There's not much you can do. I have been a DMOZ Editor in the past and it is what it is.
Also, in the days of today, I do not value a DMOZ listing as much as I used to 5-7 years ago. I would suggest to keep working on your alternate link strategies.

Copy/pasting the article from another website and referencing correctly not to get penalized
Hi all I am looking at copy/pasting an article from another website which is very relevant to my business, is there a standard practise/best practise for SEO to do this and ensure Google doesn't think i am plagerizing content etc.. Link to source down the bottom? Using Quotations... making a page noindex or no follow etc?

Opinions For Getting Worthwhile Links For Longevity
Hi Everyone, I have just joined the Moz community and have been reading through a lot of content. I have a question and I would like to put it out to all of the professional digital marketers here to hear their take on it. Basically I work for a construction company that has developed a way to build extensions to houses which is environmentally friendly and cost effective. Obviously the house extensions market is pretty competitive and I need to work out how I can make headway into the market for the digital marketing side of things. The website is still under construction and I am having it built in order to will viewers to enter their contact details for more information as well as provide lots of useful content that show why the product will be more cost effective than say a standard timer frame constructed house extension. We are having some professional videos made as well so we can set up a YouTube channel and this will be clearly visible on the website as well. What I would like advice on is how would you start to build quality links to a site like this. We are not going for just local trade but more national (UK). The main thing is that we have longevity and I know it wont happen very quickly but I want to ensure that we do things the right way. Thanks Barry

What marketing/branding services can you recommend to get more awareness of my site?
I am a programmer, not a marketing or social media genius. It also takes A LOT of time to market your website properly. Are there services that people can recommend that can help get my site out there and known to people more. I am always working on the SEO part and that takes time to improve. Just looking for suggestions. Thank you!

What can i do to regain top 3 for local map listings if I already created a bunch of citation link to my site?
I got hit by a penguin refresh on Oct 5th and lost over 10 #1 rankings. I'm currently #4 on the places listing for my main keyword and really trying to regain top 3 position. I created a bunch of local citation with matching info and really piped out my map listing since it is 100% complete. I'm quite stumped on how to further optimize my map listing to where i can hit top 3 positions. Does anyone have any recommendations on this issue? Thanks Sam

How to get Google to link external review sites in Google Places
Hi, I have several company profiles in Google Places and Google Sites, I also have the same profiles for those companies in review sites like Yelp! and so on. I have seen that other sites have links on the bottom where Google points to those external review sites, but that doesn't happen for me yet, is there a way to tell Google that I have profiles on other review sites so they can link them or is it Google whenever they find them that will link them? Here's an example: http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=14126341780178539960&hl=en At the bottom you'll see that it says: Reviews from around the web Now this is one of mine: http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=12168877126282825032&hl=en Now how do I get that line at the bottom provided that I know there are reviews out there in other sites? Is there something I can do? Or is it all about Google doing it whenever they see fit? Thank you!

Local Business Listings
We have about 60+ local businesses under our main brand we are hoping to manage "easily". We are looking at these three, but unsure which will work the best: www.ubl.org localeze.com yext.com Our past vendor worked with localeze, but had some problems with axicom listings. We are leaning towards Yext, but not sure what all the differences are and if we are comparing apples to apples. Thanks!
