What is the best SEO way to categorize products on an ecommerce site
-
What is the best way for SEO to set up categories for an ecommerce site selling beauty products. I have currently built my product categories so that if a person looks under the hydration category they find our body lotion, but also if they look under the body section of products they also will find the same body lotion. Is this a problem for SEO? I think it helps the customer find the product.

When it comes to an E-commerce SEO, if you want to get on the first page of Bing or Google, the most important things is that you will need high-quality do-follow and no-follow back links.
Read the moz help section, to learn more about why links are important part of seo.
also when it comes to e-commerce SEO, make sure that all of the product descriptions are very well written, and white hat, so we mean by that is, don't use duplicated text, instead, write the product descriptions in a white hat way.
We worked for a business, which sells log cabins, we got that business on the first page by building quality backlinks

.../category-green/some-product.html
.../category-brand/some-product.html
.../category-widget/some-product.html.../some-product.html clean URL should exist and the canonical tag within the top three URLs should be pointing to this clean product URL. The 3 above can be crawled and indexed, but the canonical is assisting Google in understanding which is the correct product URL. A product can rightly exist in multiple categories.
If the platform is such that a clean product URL is not possible (urghh!), then a strategy needs to be developed to choose one of the category/product URLs as the canonical.
My preference though is to have a category structure and all product links coming from those category pages are clean product URLs in the first place, with self referencing canonicals.

Thank you for that answer. If I understand you correctly, as long as the category is not in the URL path, then just make sure the category is optimized and the product is in the right category. You are suggesting it should not be a problem to have the same product in two categories using this method? But if the category is in the product URL path, then it would not be good to have a product in multiple categories, right?
-
The way I prefer is to have multiple optimised categories that a product rightly sits in, but the actual product URL is clean with no category in the URL. The page canonical is then self referencing.
If that is not possible and the product URL/s contains the category path, like on Shopify for example, then it is ok to have the product URL canonical set to the clean product URL without category structure. But that only works if that clean URL actually exists (in Shopify it does).

Moving multiple Sites to One Site and SEO Impact/Ideas
Hi there, We are in the process of moving 2 sites with higher page authority to another site we own (that is our company brand), so essentially 3 sites into one. We're at risk of losing a lot of SEO from the original 2 sites that have all the product information. We are doing this since we merged companies a couple years back and need one web precense. Anyhow, the site launch date is in 3 months and the recommendation is to start moving content over prior to that for top pages, which is a big undertaking when we are launching all the pages again with new content, redeisgn and moving sites in 3 months. If it's the right move, we should do it, but I just wanted to get opinions on how others have handled something similiar when moving to a site with lower site authority and trying not to lose rankings.

SEO - is it site or page
Hi When we're talking about SEO does the search engine only look at the whole site in general or do they look at the individual page when we're talking about SERP? So if you have a keyword "my search term" Does the search engine look at the site first or the page with the term on then rank you or is it the page then the site.

NEW WEBSITE WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RECOVERY THE AUTHORITY OF OLD DOMAIN NAME?
HOW TO DO RECOVERY AUTHORITY OF OLD DOMAIN NAME? I got some advise on this in another post here on MOZ based on this i need a few answers TO SUMMERIZE**:****.** My client got some REALLY bad advice when they got their new website. So they ended up changing the domain name and just redirecting everything from the old domain and old website to the front page of the new domain and new website. As the new domain not optimized for SEO they of cause now are not ranking on anything in Google anymore. QUESTION 1 According to my client, they use to rank well on keywords for the old domain and get a lot of organic traffic. They don’t have access to their old google analytics account, and don’t have any reports on their rankings. Can anyone suggestions how I can find out what keywords they were ranking on? QUESTION 2 I will change the domain name back to the old domnain name (the client actually prefer the old domain name) But how to get back most possible page authority: For information titles, descriptions, content has all been rewritten. A - Redirect I will try to match the old urls with the new ones. B - Recreate site structure Make the URL structure of the new website look like the old URL structure Etc. the old structure use to be like olddomain.com/our-destinations/cambadia.html (old) newdomain.com/destinations/Cambodia (new) Or olddomain.com/private-tours.html (old) newdomain.com/tailor-made (new) does the html in the old urls need any attention when recreating the permalinks in the new websites. Look forward to hear your thoughts on this, thanks!

Is it ok to add snippet of information taken from other sites on product pages?
Hello here, I own an e-commerce website that sells digital sheet music, and I would like to enrich my product pages with short references to artists/composers related to the product, taken from external websites such as mentions, fresh news, information taken from related videos, cross-references, etc. In other words, I'd like to provide our users with a different kind of informational content that our competitors are currently not offering. We could also think of this like "providing some sort of aggregate content on product pages to enrich the user's experience by providing more information about the product". What do you think are the risks or the benefits of such an approach? And if there are any risks, how to avoid/tackle them? Any thoughts are very welcome! Thank you in advance to anyone.

I have an exact keyword match domain- It has decent moz rank, original content pertaining to custom made furniture and has specific furniture products for sale. I want to move the specific products for sale to my main site but keep the general content on the microsite. It's a little different than redirecting All the Pages, isn't it? Any ideas on best steps to take? Or mistakes to avoid? Thank You Handcrafter

Can Anyone show me a site that has followed the seomoz seo rules
Hi i have been reading the seo information on here which is very interesting and i would like to know if anyone can point to any sites that have followed the rules and advice. It is great when you can read the info and rules but i feel it is also better to see a site that has followed the rules and to hear from people who have followed the information and put them into practice and explain what results they have got. I am currently building the following website http://www.womenlifestylemagazine.com so it would be great to see a site that has followed all the rules and who can explain if they work or not.
